Thinking about pre-purchasing batman off GMG since I can get that with asylum/origins for £30 right now. Do they normally get you the code in time to pre-load or would I be giving that up by pre-ordering outside steam?

It seems card drop times have returned to normal: I've received 3 in the past 50-odd minutes.

Generally, yes. It's possible that you may find yourself waiting if the game is particularly popular and GMG itself is stuck waiting for more keys to hand out to pre-purchasers, but this is a very rare thing.

I remember confessing that to a member of SteamGAF not too long after I started posting here, and he advised me not to mention it here.

Half-Life 2 has become more middling as time's marched on. You're only crazy if you dislike Episode Two. ;)

HL2 really is a game that's of its time. The impact of experiencing the presentation and physics now no longer wows quite like it would, so you're left with a game that has an inferior arsenal and encounters to its predecessor. It's been quite a handful of years since I played it though, I should refresh my thoughts on it.

Episode Two is still forever marred by that stupid antlion gauntlet.

Oh ye of little faith, Kojima just put up some Rising PC shots

I thought that was The_Monk's tweets for a moment.

The best thing about a Platinum game on PC is finally seeing how a game of theirs will look in complete clarity without that ugly post-processing they use.

Episode Two was my favorite of all the HL games (2 is the only one I didn't care for). The thing that killed HL2 for me was the AI. Combine soldiers were just too stupid, and it made the combat boring. The Hunters in Episode Two completely fixed that, and every one of them felt like a legitimate threat.

Episode Two was good enough for me to be excited for HL3.

While we're dropping bombs I'd just like to say that I don't enjoy any Platinum games at all, I find them strikingly adolescent in tone and deliberately obfuscating to the point of being unenjoyable.

The main thing that pleases me to this day about Half-Life 2 is how Gabe said he took the inspiration of physics from Trespasser for HL2.
Trespasser was a game well ahead of it's time that was just to ambitious without the time needed for it to fully cook. Thus it released in a buggy and broken state which really demeaned what the game tried to do.

If Trespasser ever makes it's way to Steam I swear i'll do multiple giveaways of it to SteamGAF.
You can even quote me on that even if it's years from now.

Speaking of dinosaurs, I wonder if Steam will get Carnivores HD.

I hope so. Seems kind of wrong to keep that exclusive to PSN since Carnivores grew up on the PC.
I still remember playing them in my computer class. Since the game could be installed without the disc needed to play.

Sweet! any excuse to post one of the greatest Let's Plays ever.

Half life 2 gave us the gravity gun, hence the hype for Half life 3 has always been to me "what is next?".

Pretty much just a portal gun in a half life game will probably do the job, but I hope they come up with something even more magical.

Grabbed that batman pre-order. Really feeling the hype for Batman this month, with Origins landing in the game world, and the death of the family HC arriving in stores. I haven't been following Grief's gfwl removal thread, so is it city I want to avoid right now until they apply that removal? Arkham Asylum is all good and safe in terms of save files going missing etc?

But a portal gun would mean we would be able to see Gordon through the portals  :O

We really need a Jurassic Park game with CryEngine.

Too bad every single mod community who tries to make a JP game gives up after a year.

Seriously I don't understand why they all fail. It's never even a cease and desist either. They just give up for whatever reason.

Will definitely give this a watch whenever I can!

Due to a lack of PC conversions I don't think that'll cause much uproar in this thread. ;) But what do you mean by 'obfuscating'? I only played the demo of Bayonetta and didn't like much about it but played through Vanquish two times back to back recently and enjoyed it immensely. The gameplay was fast and fresh and while the story sure was 'adolescent' and silly it did fit the crazy action.

As somebody who has attempted a dinosaur themed game in the past... I'd suggest it is the dinosaurs. Getting them to work and look proper is simply hard. They are big, clip through everything and generally are supposed to wreck shit.

There's also an Android version so its not tied to PSN exclusively, at least.
