Cool OT Motwera! I've played the Crash trilogy, CTR, Crash Bash, The Wrath of Cortex and Crash of the Titans just a bit. Crash was one of my childhood heroes; I LOVE him to death!

I have never played Crash Twinsanity. It's really THAT good?

Not to mention Nitro Kart on GBA was probably the best kart game of the system...

Yeah, Nitro Kart on the GBA was pretty sweet. I also played N-Tranced too; I thought it was really cool when I played it back on the day.

Out of all those games I've played
- Crash Bandicoot
- Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped
- Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex (Gamecube)
- Crash Twinsanity (Xbox)
- Crash Bash (I played this one with a friend)

My favorite is probably Crash 3, I loved that game. Close ones were Twinsanity and Wrath of Cortex. Wrath of Cortex was too easy so I didn't like it as much as Warped. Especially after you got the powers, then it was mostly a smooth ride until the last few levels.

The hardest boss for me was probably on Crash 3 when you fight Nefarious Tropy. I died so many times against him it was anger inducing.

Yet they're a pile of shit compared, which is what he was saying.

I feel like you guys probably only played Wrath (which I'm honestly not a fan of) and stopped there, while continuing to generalize the rest of the franchise from that point, since it's easier to just do that instead of actually playing the games. No one is claiming they are pushing the bleeding edge of technology and the platforming genre like ND Crash titles used to do, but there are some genuine fun titles of quality beyond the original quadrilogy. It would be sad if this thread devolves into a 'ND titles circlejerk, rest is shit' discussion, because honestly, there isn't much discussion to be had with posts like that.

I like how the list of cancelled games is the largest by far. Poor Crash. I wish Activision would just sell the IP to Sony or Nintendo.
I think you also need to blame Universal/Vivendi for this mess, since its not just activision.
Oh yeah, the absence of Crash Online as a title is because it is what is known as Crash Village website, which is unfortunately down.

You make a Crash Bandicoot community and you use THAT game as the banner?

WUT
Oh yes I dare to do that, Since Crash Mind Over Mutant has the best screenshots for a modern game from the series, its not that easy, like Titans on Hard, I suggest you giving it a try, though I am not finished yet.
(Personally,
please don't kill me..
)

This is why:

:p

Weeeeeeeeeeeell..... To be fair that was posted after I asked the question.... :p

...

We really should blame Activision for everything. All they have done is cancelling games and allow just one(or two?) iOS games...

And let us not forget PS All-Stars. . .

This is the perfect place to ask this... The Crash games are on sale on the PSN for 4.99 I have some extra cash in my wallet to buy only one so which one will be my best purchase GAF

Crash 1,2,3 or Crash Team Racing

1 = Hard as balls, kind of mean save system.
2 = Challenging
3 = Best of the bunch, NOW WITH ANALOG CONTROLS!

CTR = Best goddamn kart racer.

It's honestly up to you.

Man I hadn't even heard of half those cancelled games listed in the OT. Really wish Twinsanity had done better and got the time to be properly finished/polished too, it's probably the only post-ND game I felt got close to greatness but didn't quite get their due to complications. Cortex Chaos was meant to be that Pikmin-style spin-off with Cortex that the Twinsanity guys were gonna make, right?

Crash 2 also supports analog controls.

It didn't on the UK PSN version at least, sadly. Which sucked because the Dualshock 3's d-pad feels mushier than the PS1/PS2's, so it makes it harder to play for me.

Did the original release support analog, or was it just the Platinum/Greatest Hits version?

I've also realised that I actually own every Crash game other than Boom Bang, which looked a bit rubbish, and the two GBA platformers. I did have both the Crash and Spyro crossovers though.

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
My girlfriend loves the Crash Bandicoot series. Hope they bring it back to the PS4 for her sake

I think the PS1 Crash games and Crash Tag Team Racing are amazing. I know the latter gets shit for being a Mario-Kart: Double Dash clone, but my god, it was fun

Anyone else used to really love the boss health bars? I think they're my favourite from any game. Related art style is included in the bonus tokens in 1.

For me the original series is like a holy book (holy games?) I have ritually replayed for nearly my whole life. It began when I was 5 on that fateful day at the Toys R Us PS1 booth...the rest is Sony fanboy history.

I'm planning to give Twinsanity a try for the first time tomorrow.

Try the GBA ones out, they're actually closer to Naughty Dog's games in atmosphere than Wrath of Cortex was imo.

There were multiple games that defined my childhood, but if I had to just pick one singular series it would be Crash Bandicoot. Absolutely fantastic games.

Never played any of them, but I did buy all the Crash games (and all the Spyro games) on PSN since they are half off now.

You're in for a treat.
Crash 1 is ridiculously frustrating with its save system, to the point that I feel that I'll probably just use the password to unlock everything to get all the levels at this point, so I can play through them all at my own pace.
Crash 2 is my favourite game of all time, I'm incredibly bias but there's really little I can fault it for.
Crash 3 has some great platforming levels, but half the game is spent not playing as Crash doing actual platforming, which puts it down for me.
Crash Team Racing still holds up great, probably the best kart racer until Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, but I still probably prefer CTR due to nostalgia.

They're all jam packed with secrets and whatnot that are tricky to find in a lot of places; some being downright obscure, but you'll get so much more satisfaction completing them without using walkthroughs.

The Spyro games are great too if you've never played them. I've not played much of them myself though; finished the first area on the first, played the demo of 3, and read about the second in the Official PlayStation magazine years ago and have longed to play it ever since.

Yeah, I've heard really good things about those actually. I'll definitely consider trying them sometime.

Edit: Does anyone have any solid tips on how to hit the shortcut on Cortex Castle on CTR? It's been eluding me for ages how to get it consistently, and it's the only track I have left on time trial. I've been using PAL Penta for the time trials.

That surprises me. I have an original PAL disc from 1997 (not Platinum) and it supports the analog sticks. There is even an calibration option in the options menu. Crash also has a slow walking animation when you push the stick only slightly.
I play on a PS2 with a DualShock 2 controller.

PSP or Vita (latter depending on his region) is a good option for this with the handy sleep mode.

No doubt a weird system though. You have to earn your saves with gems haha. And as I recently discovered if you use a gem to save then you have to start from that level when you load up. So it's possible to be at level 10, earn the gem for level 4, save, reload and have to replay levels 5-9. However any of the gems you earned fro levels 5-9 will remain.

Another weird thing is on PSP the analogue works fine. And presumably on Vita.

Yeah, it's annoying; when you go to put it to analog mode and back out of the menu (using the menu that pops up when you press the PS button while playing a PS Classic) it automatically reverts to digital mode. I'm more used to playing it with the d pad, as I never had the analog PS1 controller, but I hate the PS3's d pad.
But yeah, playing Crash 2 on my PS2 with the DualShock 2 is great. Think I was up to the 4th warp room last time I played on my actual disc version.

It's not good for people like me who are absolute crap at the game. :p
But yeah, the save system really annoys me on that one. I also guess to PSP analogue works because I assume it's just emulating the d pad, like the circle pad does for DS games on the 3DS.

You know what's up! Clearly the best team in the whole game. Never played it much, but I used those two most of the time.

I was actually playing CTR this afternoon, I love the damn game.

Crash has always seemed like the forgotten cousin of mascot platformers, but I loved the games...all of them. He should have outlived Sonic...

I have them all as PSOne Classics, but only beat the first one. I really should get around beating the other three. The first one is a blast, though. One of the few platformers I feel the harsh difficulty was entirely justified simply because the level design is just so damn fun. I never got frustrated if I beat a hard level and noticed I had missed a box. It was simply an excuse to traverse and enjoy it again. To think that long ago I thought the games were garbage... :S

My favorite level from the first game (Fumbling in the dark)

Making of the first Crash Bandicoot, written by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin. Wonderful insight in the workings and development of the first game. Give it a read if you're into Crash (well, that's why all of us are here! :p )

That's only one part of the story, everyone should also give this article a read: http://www.crashmania.net/the-truth-behind-the-origin/

Also this timeline is pretty interesting: http://www.crashmania.net/timeline/1994/

The history of Crash is quite interesting. It's almost a miracle that he was able to outlast most other 90s "mascot attempts" as long as he did.

I've done alot of backwards engineering on Sonic Xtreme files and I'm not even joking, this gif seems to be exactly what they were aiming for:

Seriously, you can probably Google me in relation to Sonic Xtreme (I'm weirdly hardcore when it comes to that game), but I truly think that Crash was the Sonic that Sega wanted before they made Sonic Adventure.
