BF4 running via remote play

Just to clarify, is the best connection a direct one from the Vita to the PS4 or connecting the vita to the home router that the PS4 is wired to?

I think that depends how far away you are from your ps4, and/or how much your router sucks.

I'm surprised they are still offering the 3G. I thought they would have stopped manufacturing that ages ago since I've seen plenty of 3G sales (sometimes cheaper than the Wifi model) which lead me to believe it was performing poorly.

I think they just want to have 2 skus and the handful of people that buy the 3g make it worthwhile...?

That's from Mortimer and I don't know how he means to connect. ie, both Wifi, or PS4 wired. Sony's own instructions say wire the PS4 to your router and connect that way for the best experience.

Yeah, sorry... wasn't clear about that.

New list. Best experience as follows:

1. PS4 > Vita (no router needed, shorter "leash.").
2. Wired PS4 > Vita over router
3. Wireless PS4 > Vita over router
4. Wired PS4 with great internet >Vita with great internet (from away from home)
5. Wireless PS4 with great internet > vita with great internet (from away from home)

Remote play does sound awesome but I wonder what the battery life is gonna be like with the constant WiFi streaming?

Very interesting. They did say that NFS was also using the same network as BF4 and it ran very well with the occasional stutter. Hopefully the lagginess experienced in BF4 is just a network issue.

I think Sony is banking on Remote Play + the catalog of free games that everyone will have because of plus to pick up vita sales over the next couple years.

It's a really interesting strategy that's never been done before. It basically asks every PS4 customer "at what price point do you break?" So right now it's $200. Fall 2014... let's say it's $169 (black friday = $135?) and you have 15 ps+ vita games and a ton of ps4 games to remote play. Do you still hold out? Fall 2015... sub 150 and like 30 PS+ games...?

Oddly I can actually see the Vita turning into the PSP... selling a ton of hardware but not much software. Which is the complete opposite of how it is now (it actually does decently for sony because people who own vitas buy a FUCKLOAD of games... but obviously system sales are low).

Or maybe it will just be ignored and fade into obscurity. It may. Will be interesting to watch though.

It's just not announced yet. Namco Bandai aren't going to leave that money on the table.

I don't share your optimism, I think they'd rather get started on a next gen Dark Souls instead of wasting their time/money on up porting a rather niche game to a console with a low install base.

But that's not really the point of this thread lol

My thinking as well. I really hope it catches on. It's a great system.

Also, I think someone on the first page said "get the oled while you can." My understanding, and I can be wrong, is that the OLED is going to remain as the 3G vita (at a higher price, of course). The vita 2k will be wifi only and cheaper.

That's me.

Good to know that the OLED will be sticking around in some form or another.

Just to be clear, is this what you expect, or what you have been told, or your personal experience with the PS3 and the Vita.

As I said, Sony suggest wiring to a router as the best option, not going direct.

Pretty smart strategy imo. Too risky to just keep trying enticing people by putting out new games when it hasn't really worked with COD, AssCreed, Uncharted, and an excellent Killzone. Needed a feature to push vita sales and remote play may just be it. I just hope with the higher vita sales comes more native vita games.

It looks like there's some lag between him hitting the "R" button and the gun firing on screen. I've been pretty hyped about Remote Play though, so hopefully my eyes are deceiving me...

I noticed this as well. Other Remote Play videos showed it to be much faster though.

EDIT: Looks good in that video.

No they don't. Source?

I'm pretty sure they've said that going through your router can add a minimal lag. Plus there's no way going through the router could be better than a direct connection.

Next gen DarkSouls or DemonsSouls... in bed *drools*

How many times I wanted to play games but just got lazy to go downstairs and turn on my PS3 to play...with PS4InBed™ I will be all set :D

It's 60 fps on Vita too? It looked smooth but the TV version looked more smooth. I wouldn't use it for shooters anyway, just wondering.

well, I don't know about anyone else, but the reason why I want remote play is to play ps4 games located on my entertainment room from my bedroom with vita, in this scenario, going through router is probably best.
