Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Cut characters like Mewtwo is the reason why I fully support DLC for this game as long as it isn't locked on the disc.

They would be leaving so much money on the table. Nintendo probably wont do it unless Sakurai wants to though. I mean it makes so much sense especially if they may run out of time yet again. lol.

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
Ridley will be the announcer.

Smash DLC is just too good of an idea for Nintendo not to do, especially with Luigi U's success.

I imagine it will end up being like how Iwata got Sakurai to do Brawl, in that he'll say they're going to make it with or without him and Sakurai will accept and do it himself because Smash is his baby.

Sadly this would basically lead to Sakurai perpetually being in development of something Smash related, so ideally there'd be a separate team making the DLC based off Sakurai's ideas with him doing some supervising.

B-But you can't have five players! Ridley is a stage hazard for every stage confirmed.

Actually, Mario has been demoted to a stage hazard.

I have always been more than cool with the idea of DLC for Smash games ever since Sakurai touched on it briefly during Brawl's development. Stage and character DLC especially throughout a generation (since Smash games usually see only one release) would be wonderful if they could work it out well.

Because Mewtwo is still awesome.

Makes that terrible new genesect movie Mewtwo look even worse. What the hell were they thinking?! I know not the time or the place.

Anyway yeah, I'd love to see Mewtwo return. He was planned for Brawl, he's highly requested, he's in that new movie, he's the final part of pokemon origins, he might be in the next movie too, and he's one of the two pokemon to receive two different mega forms.

No one would see it coming.

Character announcer packs as DLC?

Hades and Palutena as announcers who make quips during the match!?

Dan Green Mewtwo or bust.

Although, the voice actress who portrayed the character in the Genesect movie was fine too, just a shame they didn't have a better movie to play with.

Smash 64 was incredibly balanced. The "bottom" characters still are tournament viable.

I remember someone saying that "everything in 64 is so broken that it actually balances itself out.", and I think that fits better!

0 to death combos are pretty common in 64. The hitstun, sheildstun and combo/juggling capabilities are just crazy.

Speaking of Isai and goofing off, I think he said at Apex this weekend he is only going to use Jigglypuff.

Yeah, that's what I heard too. I have high hopes that he'll get extremely far with Jiggles. His matches in Apex 2012 using Link was amazing, and his Mario at Apex 2013 was crazy.

ha I knew you'd use an Isai match
unfortunately for you, Isai just happens to be by far the best player in the world, which is why he can goof off with low tiers and win
Ness is 9th and Link is tied for 10th....out of 12

although yes at least they're more viable than in later games

Just figured it'd be the easiest to show, but you're still wrong.

Here's a freestyled combo I did midmatch. Nothing crazy, just proves there are a lot of great Ness players out there. There's a decent community that plays it online through Kaillera+PJ64K. N

you guys have to realize that 64 had like 12 characters.

So? Who's saying it was difficult to balance?

which part is wrong, Ness and Link do indeed sit at 9th and T-10th on the tier list out of 12, which indeed counts as low/bottom tier

I was addressing your point of them not being good. Just because they're low-tier (in a game of only 12 characters mind you), does not equate to them being bad.

Everyone is nasty at that game, so it's not night and day between each character.

In case anyone is interested in Apex, they're doing a preview stream right now for Brawl.

I'll be there tomorrow playing nonstop Smash 64 TEAMS!

if a character is low tier, it logically follows that said character is bad relative to the rest of the cast
really now, is this so hard to understand, even if it's relatively balanced that doesn't make a difference unless every match is closer than 60-40 or something

unless of course you want to argue instead that Ness/Link are indeed better than DK/Puff/etc. and are actually mid-tier

After some thinking, I’ve struck Zoroark off of my list. While I still believe the character is plausible, I’d like to think Sakurai is above including a Black/White Pokémon just for the sake of it. When he was putting the roster together in early 2012, Zoroark long wore off its welcome to the general public.

With that said, I’ve added a “new” Pokémon in its place (technically)…

Mega Lucario!

  • Lucario’s Final Smash evolves into Mega Lucario, which is treated internally as a separate character
  • HUD name and portrait changes during the evolution
  • Mega Lucario lasts for the remainder of the fight
  • Mega Lucario cannot change back into its weaker form; as such, its Final Smash is the Aura Storm from Brawl
  • Mega Lucario has the same move set as regular Lucario, but it’s faster, heavier, and more powerful — perhaps with some slight property/visual effect changes (consider it a Melee-style clone)
  • Mega Lucario has different taunts
  • In its victory animations, Mega Lucario transforms back into Lucario
Lucario getting the Mega Evolution makes more sense to me than Mewtwo: having played Pokémon X/Y, the game definitely drives home the fact that Lucario was the first Pokémon to Mega Evolve. Also, I’d much rather have the “classic” gen one Mewtwo with its Melee voice.

I like the idea of Lucario being a catch-all “newer Pokémon game” representative. We have the gen one protagonist in Pokémon Trainer, the mascot in Pikachu, and the most popular legendary/pseudo-villain in Mewtwo. On the other hand, Lucario was introduced in gen four, remained popular through gen five, and was the first to Mega Evolve in gen six.

I thought my argument was simple; I'm merely referring to your comment of "making them not terrible" instead of describing what you meant in a different manner. If you simply meant low tier, then say that. I don't think that's what you meant and until you were shown evidence contrary to that, you changed it to low tier.

They're not "terrible" in 64, as I've pointed out in several posts already ;]
Good luck out there.

Thanks. Someone online is bringing a 360 to N64 adapter for me hahah - I seriously can't wait for lag free console games using my 360 controller without delay.

Teams in 64 is so different than Melee and Brawl. The combo potential is insane.

come on man, the original post I made was a crack at Link and Ness being low tier every single time
hence the "automatically cut the lowest 20%" part :p
