Gears gameplay, i am cry.
Can we please hold off on comments like this until we've actually seen some proper gameplay?
Gears gameplay, i am cry.
Not disagreeing, but each of the characters is based 100% on the actor portraying them. Their faces are lifted using those 3D modeling cameras that are all the rage right now.
I think Galahaad and the young one could have had more distinct facial hair stylings (Galahaad's looks like a thicker version of the young guy's) but their faces are pretty dissimilar up close. Unfortunately, from a distance all you notice is their white faces, dark hair, identical outfit, and similar facial hair.
I haven't been following The Order too closely but is there anything more to it than a steampunk Gears of War clone? Granted they haven't revealed anything substantial to go on, but those screens look like pretty standard stuff with more mustaches.
You need to read up on the back story. This is not going to be a shooter. That is boring. It's going to be a heavily story and character driven game.
Game Informer had a big article on it a month ago.
I mean...it clearly IS going to be a shooter as well though
this game is gonna play so boringly. i thought we were past gears of war by now but i am clearly mistaken
I kinda know where you are coming from but I think that its hard to say how it will play since we haven't seen anything yet. I'm gonna take the wait and see approach before judging. But I hope its not just a Gears clone
Let us remind ourself how this game looks. This is realtime, native res.
Dat atmosphere. Dat lightning. Dat DOF. That uber smooth look.
I agree 100%.
Three of the main characters look too similar. That needs to be fixed. All they did was take a face model and change it up slightly (facial hair and some differences in the jaw). But that's about it.
Sure. Using different voices helps. But still. Too similar.
Look. There's Father with his two twin sons . :
Haha, yeah. That's borderline racist . It's just the hair. Different faces. Are you serious? I don't see any similarities whatsoever. Sure two of them have facial hair but they all have distinct faces.
This is new, too.
When this game was announced, I thought to myself, this better not be just another shooter set in 19th century London. I would hate that. The more I read and the more info we got from the developers the more I was looking forward to it.
I don't want to go place to place and shoot waves of monsters. I want to be engrossed into the story. I want to be creeped out of what we find while exploring towns and mansions, dungeons, etc
I want to my neck hairs to be standing on end when I hear creepy howls in the distance but nothing happens. I want to be amazed by the backstory of each character. I want care about the characters. I want to hate other characters, not because they are played bad, but because they are playing their character so good.
Well.... sounds like you had better start making your own game then. We really don't know a whole lot about how the game is going to be set up. It's not wise to have too specific of expectations this early on, and it's not fair to judge said game because it doesn't meet those expectations.
I feel your avatar really represents you... I can see you laughing at our pain, watching all those internal videos
All I could find was this one new screenshot, thought I'd create a new thread so that everyone gets to bask in its glory!

It looks like these shots have been seen before by GI magazine readers, but haven't been officially released online.
I agree 100%.

She's backed against the wall. I guess she breached then moved out to the left to allow the others through? Hopefully the gun has no recoil.am i the only one who feels the girl has a weird stance in this. The rest seem rushing in she seems to have an awkward animation (maybe it was just a strange point to capture it) but she seems much more about to get into position like a dude bro an the others seem more natural?

They should've given the female a beard or a mustache too, she's missing out.

"Hot coffee" scandal incoming.Well it's 1886, so you can bet she has a beard "down there"!
I can see the outfits having incredible physics. In the pictures you can notice they react correctly to the surface they're in contact with.

Dont think so we have a good summary of it thoughIs the article on the GI's 1886 hub?
They didn't have hedge trimmers back then?
you haven't seen under her arms yet
I kept wondering what people were seeing in this game. I didn't understand what was so exciting about the cinematics (E3 trailer, not the filmic aspect) and more shooting in a game, despite the interesting setting.[...]
Its possible the media and gamers will classify this as a shooter, because it will have shooting elements. RaD has stated they don't want the entire game to revolve around shooting though. They seemed really concerned with pacing and "mixing things up". They've mentioned a player will do 5 minutes of one thing, then 5 minutes of another, then 5 minutes of something else.
I expect a 10-12 hour game. I expect the shooting will be 'enhanced' for the next generation with soft body physics; .this will convey the power of the weapons and sense of environment. I expect new camera angle techniques not seen much in 3rd person game, OTS games as of yet. These guys worked on the God of War series and are working with SSM. if you've noticed anything about the trajectory of that series, its the evolution of camera placement to dramatize combat situations, emphasize scale, or heighten a scene. I fully expect the Order capitalize on these techniques. If I had to guess, I'd bet some of it will come into play with melee. Its this technique that I think they reference when they use 'filmic'. The transitioning from one mode of combat, or from one game mechanic to another, will be 'smoother' and have great presentation. Of course, we'll get a lot of narrative and character interactions.
They're going to vary it up mechanic-wise, while at the moment there doesn't appear to be any platforming, I'd bet along with the shooting, you'll get some investigation/contained exploration, melee, light stealth, horror, maybe some chase scenes. I suspect people will call it a shooter, but the pacing will make it feel like much more. Very excited for it.
RAD are doing some amazing things in their engine. Visually, and technically, it will wow you guys when you all see it in action, in real time gameplay.

I was thinking, because of the soft body physics, this game will have mutilation too just like Gears.
Dont think so we have a good summary of it though

I would really love for all of this to be true but, if it is just a straight up third-person shooter, I'm still down as long as it's a good one.
Seriously? It's a still from a video.am i the only one who feels the girl has a weird stance in this. The rest seem rushing in she seems to have an awkward animation (maybe it was just a strange point to capture it) but she seems much more about to get into position like a dude bro an the others seem more natural?
Are you stating that all white people look alike?
I too was plagued by this problem in my younger days but no more.
Each character's brow structure, nose and facial dimensions are different as well. Character models in today's high end game design world are incredible sophisticated. Developers who push an art style that centers on realism will never present lead modeling with similar facial structures. In short when you're investing this much into a game you don't skimp on your leads (never); however, random NPC horse buggy drivers on the way out of town is in play (always).
Typical character distinction short cuts use tactics such as: bald guy versus full head of hair/skinny guy versus big hulking dude or glasses guy versus.. well that kinda sums it up.
With the Order, RAD went with a design that has incredible (realistic) facial variety. If they are applying the proportional amount of care to the remaining assets then I think we all will be very impressed.
With that said; I will give you that each model has two eye, a mouth and brown hair; and that can be kinda confusing when differentiating through the eyes of an intergalactic species
shooter or no. Whatever label people choose, I fully expect them to raise the bar.
