Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

and people will still buy this demo for $40. We deserve the industry we have.
.

Seriously, people can whine and complain all they want, but when Konami sees the sales numbers thanks to all the Metal Gear fanboys they'll know they made the wise decision ripping us off.

We complain when publishers rip us off with shit like this, exclusive DLC, microtransactions, DLC being ripped out of the main game, yet we reward publishers by buying them.

I don't understand how some people in here can say its worth it without having played the game.
4 hours for main story + playing some extra modes sounds awfully short
Fuck no Konami/Kojima

People are saying it's not worth it without having played the game or even knowing the correct interpretation of the topic title yet

I'm wondering about cutscene length for the main mission. Assuming it stays the course with MGS3 Virtuous Mission....it might be about an hour.

I remember articles about Vanquish , it wasn't a short game when I played it. "journalists" are just going to speed run thru the game and make claims like this to get hits

I'd be in the dick
Main mission and side ones are 4 hours for $40? Get fucked. I'm a huge Metal Gear fan and I will not be buying this game until it's much cheaper.

Let's wait and see what they meant by "through" before jumping into conclusions. And even if the main mission 4 hours long, you guys forgot that side-ops are side missions that adds to the main mission and reveals more about the main story. Side-Ops & Extra-Ops are two different modes. The latter are just bonus missions that are not story related.

The term is perfectly clear. They played through the [insert whole, complete] main mission plus extra content in 4 hours. The inserts are superfluous because it's already implied directly in the term. That's why it's cut and dry.

I guess living on Long Island skews how I evaluate the cost of things but $30 for a 4 hour game that I'll definitely replay is worth it. I spend that much on a half hour lunch for 2.

I like how everyone is talking like this game can only be bought for $40...
Hypocrites.

I will probably import the Japanese special edition for well over $100.

they got me by the balls

Ok fine even it is 4 hours long, I have had single player experiences that were much longer and that sucked so how does the length of a game justifies its quality?

I have payed $60 for 4-5 hour games. Why are people freaking out.

As long as the replay value is there...

Considering this is MGS though, about 45 minutes of this will be gameplay so fuck this

Not everyone wants to go digital and even then the 20$ (last-gen digital) is a little high for the amount of content that some people feel is in the game.

So, $15 for Brothers (3 hours long, no replay value) is OK, while $20 for longer game that has side missions and tons of hard challenges is too high?
(for $10 more all is presented in 1080p60, and for $10 more we get retail-specific bonuses and abbility to sell the disc)

Right.

The endgame time is misleading in that game, I promise you it was more than that.

I didn't die that much, I never skipped cutscenes, and explored most of the areas for items and other things. Let's not pretend Rising isn't a incredibly short game, skipping cutscenes and knowing the game in&out you can beat the game in 2 1/2 hours.

Again, the end time is not the time it took you to beat the game. The end time only counts current mission times, not cutscene times, time spent at menus, and does not count time accrued during retires.

Before I say how outrageous it is, I'll wait and see how much stuff is actually in there and how in depth it is. If a game is fun and intricate, I'll play through it more than once. Game length doesn't really mean much to me.

There are side-ops that have you infiltrate the same area as the main mission [the Cuban military base] where you have to retrieve a package, extract a hostage or something similar.

"Rescue 10 prisoners within the time limit"

Stuff like that.

Well, if you remember, Konami are supposedly deciding on the release date for Phantom Pain based on the performance of Ground Zeroes.

If it does poorly, they will delay the release.

If it does poorly they'll put a metaphorical gun to the heads of Kojima & Co to get The Phantom Pain finished.

The "maybe we'll release The Phantom Pain sooner if you guys buy this" thing sickens me.

they said they played 4 hours through the main mission. They DID NOT say they completed it and that it was 4 hours long. If they did indeed finish the game then you should be expecting a review very soon which is highly unlikely.

The way they've written it, at least, sounds like they finished it. I reacted to the title a la GAF! : )

No one's really going to pay full retail for it still, its dropped a lot here in the UK.

Potential overreaction? I'm chalking this up to confusing phrasing until confirmed, may have been an oversight which is now being dissected for both sides of the argument.

"Main mission" also implies there are other missions (I have not been following the discussion of game modes/missions included.)
