1 vs 100 Season 2 | Official Thread of Using Google to Search for the Official Thread

this is too fucking weird.

my xbox refuses to play 1 v 100 unless one of my friends is playing it. If they are playing it the box has no problem joining in with them to play.

but if I just select 1 v100 from the dashboard it just sits there with the loading screen. doesnt even leave the dashboard.

The other night I was in the Top Ten until the 30s! Frak me it's hard to stay up there, though.

Also disappointed that I placed in the Top 100 during one of the Live show rounds but apparently the round score was not used to select the Mob that time. :/

Shit, same here. I didn't even make the correlation that I could have been in the mob. Now I'm even sadder.

I agree. I personally think the whole thing should be random. It's really lame to see the same people in the mob on every show.
Yeah, this annoys me so much. I will never be in the top 101 because there are some questions that I just won't know the answer to. And going by the top ten, you need to answer every question right and be fast. Even when I knew the answers 100%, I still couldn't answer fast enough to get close to the top ten.

If it were entirely random, you would have a lot of really shitty rounds. I'm sure part of the reasoning behind their method is to filter out the players who are goofing around, not paying attention, disconnecting, and, well, not terribly bright.

That said I can see the argument that the Mob and The One should be weighted by score, but with an element of randomness. So it would at least be technically possible to be selected if you're in, say, the Top 1000.

You just need to know a lot of answers to get in or near the Top 100, the streak bonus is more important than the instant answer bonus (or at least, it's way worse to break the streak than to answer slowly.) And the Safeties, which give you everything but the speed bonus, help a lot in this regard. I've made the Top 100 in extended play a couple of times and once in the live show.

Yes, you have to be just about perfect and fast to make it into the Top Ten. Yes, it's really really difficult to be selected for The One, but what do you expect? There are 30 - 60,000 people playing during the live shows.

Yeah but you're also filtering out probably 30,000 people who are playing seriously and enjoying themselves. This system is set up purely for the fucking crazy ass people who can randomly answer everything in 0.1 seconds or amass a shit load of points from playing all day long.

That said I can see the argument that the Mob and The One should be weighted by score, but with an element of randomness. So it would at least be technically possible to be selected if you're in, say, the Top 1000.
In my perfect world:

- The mob would be half Top 100/1000 and half random.

- The One would alternate between Top 100/1000 and random.

I was really enjoying the "figure it out" rounds of 1vs100 tonight, loads of maths themed questions! Then it started going weird. Some sample questions:

"What is ? of 56?"
"What is ? of 64?"
"What is [picture of 'back' button from the Xbox controller] of 37?"
"What is [picture of 'start' button from the Xbox controller] of 23?"

Excellently, the answer to the last one was something like 7[picture of 'start' button from the Xbox controller]

What the hell?

There were answers, yeah, but I've no idea how they were arrived at. I had to just keep using safeties until they ran out, and then I kept losing my streak when it asked more. I would've 37 streaked it but for those, ffs

I just had a repeat question from last night. Is that a common occurrence in Extended Play?

Yes. I've already noticed a higher consistency of repeat questions in Extended Play this season than last season.

Yeah I had three repeats and I've only played EP twice. Two of them had the answers in the same order too.

And man, this thread title isn't lying. There is no fucking way those top people in EP aren't using google.

Just played my first couple of rounds of this season. I like the changes they've made. Got six out of twelve achievements in my first game! :lol

I'll be back on in an hour for 80s trivia.

I think this may be a legal issue. If it's random, it gets classed as 'gambling'.
IANAL, tho.

Do you have download something to play? I see two things in the top 10 downloads but it says both are unavailable. Is it closed for now or am I looking at the wrong thing?

I think you download a client the first time you play, and then the "episode" you're playing. But you can't begin downloading an episode until five minutes before it starts.

I used Google for a couple games... it's hilarious because being able to determine what combination of search words will get you a good top match within seconds is almost like a game itself. Actually for one of the games I used Bing, and found that I could get the answers much more quickly. Bing seems to have better descriptions or something in the top results.

I'm normally not a cheater, and it's not something I will do again, I just wanted to see if it could be done.

Got 200/200, not at all hard.

Some repeated questions tonight during the live show, surely they have enough questions to not have to repeat them within the same live show?

Also, Mint Lamb Chop and SweetChilliChop were both The One tonight. Hopefully a coincidence.

Two people in my group just said Microsoft released the ipod.

Edit: They don't know what an ipod is but mention the Food Network and they all instant answer.

Hey if I do an Xbox Party with a friend, will we end up standing next to each other in the next round?

I know it will if you do it on the menu, but what if you do it in the middle of a round? Will it change for the next one?

I do not understand how some of these schmucks are getting in the mob.
I assume if they get out in the first round it's because they went to piss or something and didn't get back in time.

Edit: Apparently my trivia weaknesses are candy bars and the Food Network. Shit.

Someone must've been a huge Bronte Sisters fan cause I got like three of those frikkin questions during extended play.

What the fuck with the Angel question? I thought it was Angelious (or whatever) for sure. :|

Lol, Bounty is the only one I've ever heard of.

I have honestly never heard of ANY of the options on that question. It was like "Uh, what?"

Apparently Bounty is sold in Canada and some parts of Europe, but in America it's only in New York and a few other areas. WTF 1 vs 100 for including it in the American "episode" when 80% of the audience probably never heard or seen of it. :lol
