Battlefield Bad Company beta coming (360)

Things that are frustrating: shooting a rocket at someones feet engulfing them in an explosion to watch them walk out of it and shoot you in the feet four times.

And how wonky gun control is while you're firing.

Controlling any sort of vehicle. Kind of fine, and yet so completely awful and unintuitive. I'm not even sure how to reverse.

Still fun, but this game can be really annoying.

Turn the head bobbing off. To go in reverse hold X or the Left Bumper.

I must say, this game is pretty damn impressive! The sound, vehicles and effects combine for one of the most immersive combat experiences in recent memory. If they are able to iron out the kinks this will be day 1 for me!

I hope you guys are taking notes then. :D

I'll try this out later, but the no friend invites is a head scratcher

Been playing some more and getting credits for unlocks seems far to easy, unless it's just like this for the beta so everyone can 'test' everything. Got my Gold Tank Warfare badge, can't stand FPS on a pad but blowing crap up with a tank works fine!

Ok, put about an hour in...

I LOVE this game. Holy crap, this is Battlefield evolved. Destructable everything. Amazing explosions. Great game mode. Great vehicles and controls.

I couldn't believe when I shot a tank round into the ground, it actually crated the ground, and I could use the lip of the crater for cover. There are tons of buildings, every single one destructable. Shooting the APC mini cannon into a building and watching chunks of it blow off was astoundingly fun.

So much good stuff in here, I can't wait to get back to it.

1st and 2nd game was lag free, and after the round ended, we moved onto a new map. There was a ton of lag on this, with me warping all over the place. I'm sure they'll resolve this too.

I thought the sounds were pretty damn good too, almost as good as Frontline's.

One thing though:

Make sprint a toggle, goddamnit. I want to press it once and then I'm sprinting like in COD. Having to hold that button kills my hand.

Just played three games, and I had fun. I miss the huge scale of the Battlefield games, with infantry and vehicle combat intertwined. The destruction level in the levels is awesome, but I only have one complaint...CoD4's gun handling stomps Bad Company's.

COD's gun handling stomps every game's... ever since the first one was released.

We're spoiled by it... and it's a shame other games can't be as good. This game has the best gun handling in a Battlefield game yet, however. It's not amazing by any means, but Battlefield has always had shoddy gun handling.

Really liking this game so far. I might purchase it, but I feel bad about still not owning Super Mario Galaxy (bought a Wii when Brawl came out), so this might get put on hold until later. The thing holding me back is that I have a feeling I'll really like Battlefield Heroes, so I'm not that anxious to jump on this one when I know I'll be playing lots of Battlefield anyways.

Specialist on defense is insanely good. I wish more people played on the grey foggy map, but every time I join one it switches to the desert and then I feel sad.

Got in a good couple of hours.

Blocking out friends was the dumbest thing EA did. You can hear a pin drop, no one communicates, no one really plays any support roles, they all just run and gun.

The character voices get irritating after the third game or so, you just want to turn them off. They're the only chatter in the game though, since no one fucking talks.

Sound is pretty top notch, graphics are mixed bag (if tearing bothers you stay away).

It doesn't feel like Battlefield on the PC, it's a letdown for me overall.

So three out of the four matches I've finished have crashed the Xbox once the match finishes. What's up with that?

Anyone know how to check your connection speed?

Happened to me a couple times to. Crashed right at the end screen.

I kinda hated it, then learned to understand it, and now I can't wait to finish my evening chores (yes, I wash dishes like a real man) and get back into it.

Graphics are great (except for character models), gunplay isn't as good as COD4 (but then again, what is?), and the destruction and environments are insanely good.

There is so much I still don't understand about this game.

1). What are the advantages of each class other than equipment? Basically, why would anyone want to be a specialist (with the silenced assault rifle and other shit).

2). When you are an attacker, how come you can destroy both sets of gold containers and you have to go and destroy like a bunch more? I played a match that lasted for like a half hour cuz we ended up destroying 6 different containers.

3). What does it mean when it says "last man standing"? I can clearly see other teammates running around beside me.

4). Why does the helicopter CONTROL LIKE FUCKING SHIT.

5). How do you rank up? I played for like 2 or 3 hours on and off this afternoon and didn't really level up once. I got some achievements and shit (like got a couple of dogtags) but maybe it was the fact that I was in the same server for like 3 hours?

6). What's to stop someone from team killing over and over again aside from just losing points?

Anyway, I'm all over this shit. Not as good as COD4 mechanically, but it's a very interest game with its own dynamic. Loose and sloppy? Yup. But fun and can be very epic at times.

Dude, check your pm's. I have sent you a month to tide you over. I don't need it.

On another note, i cant get into a single game. Will someone try to invite me and see if that works. GT: arnie lfc

Oh man, thanks a million! I really appreciate it. I was scrambling around trying to find some 48 hour codes, lol.

Thanks again, dude!

Yeah what does last man standing mean. Also when you see the munitions icon on the maps what does that mean?

Holy shit, I had no idea this was already out! Title change desperately needed!!!1

Anyway, I know I'm totally LTTP, but if anyone has or knows how to get a beta code at this point I'd greatly appreciate it...

Cheers in advance!!

The vehicle controls kind of suck. It's really awkward to drive and aim the turret simultaneously. Most people only have one thumb on their right hand DICE. You accelerate with A, fire with right trigger, aim the turret with right stick and maneuver the vehicle with the left. Don't know if this is a design choice or something, cause it seems to me Halo-controls would work perfectly fine.

Oh yeah, I was wondering where the hell those craters I kept seeing came from. I had my sucpicions they had to do with explosions! Does C4 make craters? It'd be neat to make your own little foxhole. Deformable terrain, hellz yeah!

Also, the M95 is freaking nasty. A guy had somehow flanked around us and was shooting people in their asses thinking no one saw him. Just *BOOM!* and both the fence he was hiding behind and the guy were blown away. Bet he pooped his pants. And you can shoot down trees with two shots I think. My goal is gonna be to kill someone with a tree. It better be possible. If it is it better be an achievement too. The first one who succeeds with this accomplishment deserves some sort of cookie.

I ranked up a bunch of times. All I did was maintain a positive k/d ratio, and disarm/arm charges. I finished near the top, or at the top, and I ranked up fairly easily.

On attack, you have to knock out the first containers before the rest become available, at least that's what I concluded after a few games. As soon as you grab the first two, a couple more open up. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Aiming down the sights feels janked, needs to be more fluid.

You can accelerate with the left trigger. And reverse with the left bumper. There is a list of controls you can look at in game.

There are alternate vehicle controls- check the options.

No idea why they went with trigger for accelerate as the standard.

That last man standing means you are last one alive in your squad...dont die and your squad will get to spawn on you...literally!

The destruction was okay the first time through.....its the same every time! Shoot a tree high, and it breaks at its base?!? Nade a wall, nice explosion, hey look! a hole!!...nade the same wall next round and it blows up the same exact way....pretty lame.

My bullets do like zero damage, but walk off a one story roof and do 80 damage to your self!

Nades do no damage to infantry at all!! I guess they are in the game to punch holes in walls!!

Graphics are Ok. Not great, not awful...just, OK.

I've only played it for an hour and a bit, but I'm having trouble getting into it. It just doesn't feel as smooth/consistent (balanced, maybe?) as other online shooters I've played in the last few months (COD4, Halo3, TF2, etc.) I dunno, I need to give it more time I think... The building destruction is definitely lamer than I expected/wanted.

Indeed. I actually died purely from having jumped down such vast heights once. It's rather silly. You're basically forced to go back down the way you came, down stairs and ladders. And then you get this annoying washed out visual cue thingie. I can see my health meter perfectly fine thank you, I don't need the screen going all noiry on me. The same goes for the god damned beeping in the vehicles. Or at least they could tone it down a little, it's annoying.

Is there a feedback forum or something?

What's worse than the washed out when you're hit is the sound going away. It makes it so hard to play I just out into the open hoping to be killed and respawned. The no lifebar trend needs to die asap. It's incredibly lame and annoying.

I think it's biggest problem is it doesn't do anything all that different than what I've already seen in team shooters before, certainly nothing that's going to pull people away from COD4. At least Frontlines offers 32 person battles.

There are four sets of two crates. Yes, it logically makes no sense, but that's how it ends up working, destroy two, move on to the next set, repeat.

Each team has two squads, if it says "last man standing" it means you're the only person in that squad alive, aka the only forward spawn.

Because it's a Battlefield game.

You need points to rank up, so if you didn't kill enough people that might be why. You might not have noticed that you did if you were playing that long. There isn't much fanfare over it and the icons look really similar initially.
chespace said:

Absolutely nothing. It's honestly the perfect game to be a dick in because you can spawn right behind people you want to team kill. And it's really annoying because there are no measures you can take against someone who does kill you right now other than killing them back to have them spawn behind you.

1) Good question. :lol The specialist do have the C4 though.

2) As you destroy the gold crates the map opens up... If you can destroy all the gold crates your team wins. If you run out of reinforcement(money) your team loses.

3) Your the las man standing in your squad.

4) It's not that bad. :lol

5) You sure you played on a ranked server? I've played two hours this morning and got ranked up 4 or 5 times.

6) Nothing sadly. I wish there was an option to turn friendly fire off.

EDIT: Beaten!

lolwut? There's no punishment for teamkilling? In the full games I guess people would be somewhat deterred by losing points, not nearly enough though. And of course no one will give a shit in the beta. In BF2 there's autokick on most servers which kick players with a -xx score. Should implement that here as well.

The Specialist/SpecOps class at least in BF2 could sprint faster, had a pretty darn accurate weapon with a red dot sight, could blow up vehicles and commander assets with C4 and was invisible to UAV's. And you could pull the good ol cheap tactic of strapping C4 to a car, drive it up to a a tank and blow everything to hell. It was kind of like a ninja character or something. But pretty much only the blowing up vehicles part made it into Bad Company right? So I'm not quite sure why you'd wanna play as this class either.

The specialist has a faster rate of fire. He can kill quicker assuming you hit all your shots. The tradeoff is the weapon has no zoom so you are screwed at long range. And of course he has C4 instead of the self healing stim pack.

2). When you are an attacker, how come you can destroy both sets of gold containers and you have to go and destroy like a bunch more? I played a match that lasted for like a half hour cuz we ended up destroying 6 different containers.

Thats just the way the mode is set up. The attacking team has a set amount of lives and if they use them up before destroying all the crates they lose. Pretty sure each time you advance to the next set of crates you get more lives. Its a pretty fucking stupid mode to base a game around if you ask me.

3). What does it mean when it says "last man standing"? I can clearly see other teammates running around beside me.

I think it means last man in your squad. Pretty sure the people in your squad can respawn at you.

4). Why does the helicopter CONTROL LIKE FUCKING SHIT.

If it didnt it would be way overpowered.

Edit: FYI, I actually managed to get into the same match as my brother, and on the same team by synchronizing the time we joined. This worked more than once.

Wow. I feel kind of fed up with this game. Basically you're unlocking the old abilities from Battlefield games, and the whole world just feels inconsistent. Some shit can be blown up, some can't, which is really annoying because there's not really a way to identify what can't.

Shooting a wall two feet in front of you with a grenade launcher doesn't cause you to take any damage, but remote explosives from nearby will mess you up. Fall damage is a pain in the ass, and makes traversing into higher areas a chore despite the emphasis on blowing things up to get there the game has.

Matches just feel like a mess. There's no real strategy, and matches devolve into hoping your team isn't completely assey so you have a chance to blow the other team up. Because of the destructible terrain it's easy to get caught on small patches of debris or rubble, or to lodge your vehicle in an awkward place that can't get blown up. The number of shots required to kill someone takes a lot away from the game, as you're often left in a situation with both people firing their guns into each other walking around and eventually up to each other to lock in a close and intimate stare.

Map design is repetitive, with repeated buildings causing the landscapes to feel blown up from a Quake deathmatch size. Interiors can be pitch black without turning up the brightness on your TV until it's tweaking out in the corner of your living room with it's hands covering it's ears, and there's no option to adjust brightness in game.

The inability to see what your squad is doing while dead is the biggest problem. Without the knowledge of their location it's hard to know if it's wise or worthwhile to spawn with the squad, because for all you know you could be an assault class spawning next to a Recon squadmate off in the middle of nowhere.

Just an all around frustrating game that feels like it's full of cheap deaths, team kills, and shoddy weapons (shotgun to the chest from five feet away please do something). At least Team Fortress 2 is waiting for me.

Gotta agree. Just spent another few hours and suddenly I am less enamored.

Your fun quotient will have a lot to do with the team you play with and how good (or shitty) they are.

Hate the way the weapons handle. Hate how you have to shoot a guy way too many times to drop him. I nearly lost my shit when I sniped a guy dead on, only to have him "take damage" because he was probably on a fresh health pack or something. Get rid of the Castle Wolfenstein era health packs dude.

Just a really inconsistent experience all around. Fall damage is prob the most annoying thing about this beta. I swear I took a ton of damage just dropping 5 feet off a wooden box.

Biggest baffler: WHY CAN'T YOU GO PRONE?

Also, why do you show up as an orange dot for the enemy, even though you've ducked out of sight behind obstacles? C'mon. So annoying.

hey hey hey hey, we all want it to play like or better than cod4 but it wasnt ever promised

The feel of the weapons and the combat is fine for me. The game has some problems, most of them caused by or related to this "destroy the crate" mode, but I never felt like players had too much health. You can easily take down 2 or 3 in one clip.

Shotgun drops anyone in one shot no matter where you shoot them. Of course, you need to get close, but when your secondary is a rocket launcher, you're also covered from a good distance away. Also the unlock weapons kill very fast. Pretty sure one of the unlock sniper rifles is a one shot kill since I was the victim of it a few times.

Though as I said, the game to beat is COD4, and there's nothing special here to overcome it.

Pretend he has an overshield? or your shooting peas? Does anyone know how many health injectors you get? If it's limited to 1 than thats already better than BFMC with circle strafing around the magic healing boxes. Try repressing that shit :lol

Agreed, that shit is brutal.

Biggest baffler: WHY CAN'T YOU GO PRONE?
Because this game is generically frenetic and as such your balls should be on the wall, not the ground? :(

Really? It takes like two shots with the rocket launcher even if it's a direct hit.

Hasn't been for me. One time I shot the rocket so it knocked over the soldier like a bowling pin to take out the wall behind him. They might not have been at full life though. It's hard to say sometimes. Grenades do seem pretty worthless though.

My biggest complaint in this fun-as-hell game is that I wish you could switch the weapons/gadgets faster - but then again, I wish a lot of other shooters did too...

Next up is they should add some sort of auto respawn option or something - I hate mashing the A button impatiently right when I die as the wait time counts down, then I might look away or something thinking I respawned already, but I'm still in the menu - allow me to press A as I wait so I can automatically get back into the game...

I do hate how the helicopter controls, but I guess it's for balance reasons...

There was one more I had, but it just slipped my mind - I just woke up, so that's probably why... oh well.

I have a lot of the same feelings, hopefully since this is a beta, they will change a few things.
