Battlefield Bad Company beta coming (360)

For example, playing Oasis on defense I would be demo and lay mines, resupply, and lay more mines, then wait in cover with the shotgun for any on foot troops. That tended to weaken the other team enough so unless my teammates were complete morons. On attack, I'd go support, repairing tanks to push them to the line, calling in a strike to clear the area, hitting the case, and hide to wait for anyone to defuse it. I'd always be doing the same things, and they always worked pretty well. There's just not much room for complex strategies here.

How do you resupply?

I didn't even know there was a way to unlock with the unlock menu until a couple posts ago.

Still enjoying the game despite the jankiness. It's a beta so my hopes are high.

My friend had me so hyped for this..... I was a bit disappointed honestly. The sound was the most impressive thing in the game to me, everything else was pretty "meh". This is my first battlefield game, I thought it would be better being that it's such a popular series. Thanks again to jet1911 for the Beta key though :D

They're removing a very popular mode that's made the series what it is, and they're replacing it with what is essentially Search & Destroy. What's worse is that they could easily add Conquest (and even CTF), yet they're not doing so.

I'd understand if the change in maps, gameplay, and the overall feel was akin to Burnout going to an open world, a massive change for the better, but it's not. Ignoring the destructibility, it's a complete downgrade. There's really no reason for Gold Rush not being a new bullet-point for the back of the box and a new mode on top of the series' staple.

On your map there are white icons looking like bullets. These represent crates. Just walk up to a crate and it'll restock you automatically. You can also restock by picking up someone's kit if they're the same type as yours. Otherwise, you'll switch to their class.

What the hell could they possibly thinking designing a game around this mode and not including conquest. Decisions like these make my heard hurt. Just go ahead and throw Bad Company in the bin with every other 2nd rate shooter.

If its true there is no co-op at all I will seriously reconsider buying it. Gold Rush doesnt upset me as much since it does keep the game moving. I'll just pickup the CoD4 maps and keep playing that along with TF2 for my multiplayer online fix. Not to mention some very big titles are about to drop this next month.

Unless the final retail product addresses the concerns raised in the topic I might have to pass. And since its EA we all know the final version will basically play 100% like the beta. 3-4 patches down the road though, who knows it may be worth picking up.

This game just got awesome now that I now have new weapons to play with and know how to resupply.

Muahahaha.

Resupply by walking up to the blue crates scattered across the map. They're marked with three vertical bullets on your minimap. I'm pretty sure they don't restore health though.

Just got 688 points in my last match. And it was that crappy village map as well. :D

Too bad we lost, 'cause the rest of the team was f'n terrible. We're on defense and they manage to plant a bomb. So I rushed in, killing two with an SMG and another two with a grenade. I go down afterwards from a snipershot from a 2nd floor window overlooking the position. Now, there are not one, but TWO people from my squad sitting not 20 feet away from the target sniping like a couple idiots.

So rather than, you know.. disarming it. They hold their position and never even try do it. Needless to say, it explodes in my face after I respawn and finally fight my way back to the target.

Holy fuck, people!

Get used to that. Only half the people playing know what the objective is. My highest point count was 652. Would have been more, but we actually did too well on defense, and shut them down at the second set of crates.

It is nice though if you manage to get one person who knows whats going on. C4ing one box then setting the bomb and slinking away then popping the disarm team. All the while someone else sets up the other bomb, great way of getting one if not both boxes done. So awesome :D

I'm not feeling this yet. I don't like the way the changes have fucked over the Sniper/Recon class (no GPS, laser target being locked, weird focus effect on the scope, NO PRONE). Are there even smoke grenades now?

The reason I liked playing as Sniper in BF2: MC was the Sniper would serve as the communications hub for the team thanks to the GPS. Maybe the new system of flagging up seen enemies on everyone's radar might tone down the usefulness of such a device but it's still a painful loss to bear. I miss the old "3... 2... 1..." countdowns. And I'm not seeing the usefulness of the motion sensor grenade things yet.

Conversely, I don't like the lack of killcam either, a lot of people moaned about being revenge sniped in BF2 but killcam encourage a fire and move tactic, it meant there was a cute risk/reward element in how long you stayed in one particular spot racking up kills (and thus, how many more people knew exactly where you were).

Oasis doesn't seem to give much room to create your own sniper tactics either, not like you could in Backstab for instance. It's kinda narrow. Maybe it's just the particular map choices for now but the narrow maps and not being able to go prone means the only way I could create my own sniping spots was driving a hummer out somewhere and using that as cover. From a sniper's point of view, Oasis doesn't seem to offer that much. Ascension I don't know about yet, maybe if the defending team is camping up by the gold crates snipers could be useful but it seems too situational on that map, seems to be situational mid-range spots only.

Not to mention not bailing out of choppers/no parachute waters down potential sniping spots. Not like having snipers on top of buildings/crane in Bridge Too Far or whatever.

A lot of this is not having figured out the nuances of the Recon class yet, admittedly, but at first glance I'm not liking the changes much. And the scoring system for Gold Rush still massively favours every class that's not Recon.

Really? People are honestly saying, "Conquest or bust." -?

What's the problem with Gold Rush? Change is scary, sure, but deal with it.

That aside, if I wouldn't have given the game a second chance, I'd agree that it's shit. On my second run-through, I've found it's actually quite awesome. Sure, I have some issues with the gameplay, but my hope is that EA listens to the community, and certain necessary changes will take place before release. Then again, this is EA. It's a tough call.

I'm not cancelling my preorder or anything. Gold Rush sounds awesome but conquest is a staple of the series and it would have been huge for me if they included it, even as an afterthought.

The first time I read "no Conquest" I thought "joke post". They're putting out a Battlefield game with no Conquest mode, really?? Isn't that like putting out a Gears of War sequel without the Lancer?

I think I'm going to cancel my preorder, and maybe pick up Frontlines instead of Dark Sector today. Damn.

Just played Ascension (the village map) and we started on Defense. However, instead of actually playing defense, we all rushed the Attacking team's base. We fought them back into their own territory and I noticed none of them grabbed the Humvee. So I jump in the driver's seat and two other guys jump in as gunners. We then went on a Halo Warthog-esque killing spree inside their own base! Just running over dudes and ripping them up with bullets.

With that, and the rest of the team closing off the exits, we eventually boxed them into one spawn building and proceded to kill everything that moves. The eventually blew up the Humvee and killed us, but we held them until another one spawned and repeated the process. After they got that one, people just started raining in grenades and firing grenade launchers and rockets into the spawn building.

Of course, this blew out all the walls and caved in the roof. So now when they spawned inside the building, they had no cover whatsoever. They ran out of reinforcement funds in like 5 minutes because of it. rofl :lol By the end, almost my whole team had 300 - 500+ points. They had one guy with 120 and everyone else in the 40s and 50s.

Best match ever.

Is it 100% confirmed there will be NO Conquest? Or is that a rumour based on the fact the beta doesn't have Conquest?

No Conquest in the retail version would be... wow. It wouldn't be Battlefield.

I played for another 2 hours last night but not because I was having fun, but because I was forcing myself to give this game another chance. I'm just not feeling it. The control scheme is gimped. Sprinting is a broken feature. Since you can pretty much see enemies through walls and other obstructions, naturally you try to sprint and flank them, only problem is they can see you to, and sprinting to someone usually ends up with you dead due to the delay time.

The lack of health stations is also a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge flaw. I know support players can throw health packs, but no-one uses that class and no-one talks anyway. With so many players trapped in a concentrated area(and with the on-squad spawning) I find despite my vantage point when ever I take someone down, someone else shoots me out of no-where. And with the lack of any-sort of kill cam, it makes everything feel like a crap-shoot.

Ahh well, guess I'll just go back until BF2 until EA shuts the servers down.

I wish it kept track of your losses. Or does it? I'll have to check out that leaderboard thing later and see. Though I don't think it actually did anything when I checked it early in the Beta.. *shrug* I have 29 round victories so far (according to the medals), but I'm sure only a handful of losses in comparison.

Just started using the support class today. My kill/point ratio takes a huge nosedive, but the team almost always wins 'cause I'm constantly fixing vehicles and dishing out health to teammates. We kept the same 3 tanks from the start of an Assault round, all the way to the end of it, as a result.

People actually started talking as a result and screaming in the mic for health. :lol
"Rayne! I need help!!!" x100

Yeah I played this back to back with Frontlines last night and I'm really not feeling BC. If Frontlines had a bit more polish to it I think it would totally smoke BC, as it is I think it's just better/more fun.

Not awesome at all. It didn't take long before every game in Ascenson turning out like that in my games. Apparently it's not very easy to move up hill against heavily entrenched enemies who can pick you off from 3 or 4 buildings relatively uninterrupted. That map is fucked. Especially when you blow out all the walls on the respawn building.

I have the feeling I always play against raYne...
Yesterday I played attacker on the oasis map. Right from the start the defenders rushed into the start basis and shot everything to pieces. Took me four or five respawns before I´ve been finally able to kill the tanks and leave the f´ing base... :lol
No one on the team talked, so it was near impossible to get anything organized going.
Oh, and whoever designed the steering of the helis needs a good old spanking... I always try to go in second, so someone else can try to master this beast.
But driving a tank is great fun. If only the screen tearing would go away....

The best defense is a good offense. ;)

RE the chopper: I piloted it twice. Both times I crashed into the floor killing myself and my gunner. I don't even know what went wrong... You push the stick expecting to go forward, and somehow it goes back AND up without you using the rise/fall controls. Then you try to pull back and it sends you into this death dive that you can't recover from. I didn't even get to use it long enough to figure out what the hell the blue/red lock-on stuff means.

Anyhow, never touching it again. :lol

Let me explain. Left stick controls your altitude. Right stick controls the tilt of your copter. I play inverted, but that's just me. For a quick take off, push up on the left stick, and after you get in the air, push forward on the right stick to move forward. If you want to hover over a target while your gunner rains down destruction, adjust your pitch to be level using the HUD. Also, they need to give you more time to get back in-bounds. Too many times I've been in a heated air battle only to fly out of bounds. Immediately after the warning pops up I shove the nose on my copter down and try to get out, but I'm usually too late.

It's not 110% confirmed, but since a German mag played the game at DICE and they were told it (gold rush) was the only mode in the game, and the fact that there's gold bars on the boxart and boot-up movie, we can come to relatively accurate conclusions.

And I really might have to do that.

Goldrush= only mode , than im renting it. Because I didn't even have enough fun with it sadly. This was one of my top 5 games to this year...oh well

Some good news, but still no mention of Conquest...my search continues!

Thanks to everyone for your participation in the Beta – you’re raising some really interesting issues which are greatly appreciated and really help us improve the game! We can’t address all of your concerns, but we’re working hard to deliver the best experience possible. In the time to the release of the Beta we’ve been busy increasing the overall quality of the game, and lot of the issues that are coming up have already been addressed for the main game. However, you’re providing invaluable data and feedback, so please keep it coming!

Here’s a list of some of the major issues that we’ve seen arising in the Beta that we’ve now addressed for the main game:

· Brightness – some of the light settings on Ascension are very dark, particularly inside buildings. These have now had a major overhaul, so you won’t be running around in darkness.

· Server stability and performance – this is something that we’re using the Beta to test – we need to have thousands of players in to stress them, and the data we’ve been recording really helps. We’ll be tweaking server settings during the course of the Beta, and may need to take them down from time to time to make changes. We’ll try to keep disruption to a minimum, and will give prior notice of times wherever possible.

· Framerate – we’ve been working hard to increase the framerate and minimise tearing – this should be significantly improved for the release game.

· End of round crashes – there are stability issues at the end of round event which are fixed.

· Fall damage – in the Beta you take a lot of damage for low fall heights – this is now tweaked.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Squad spawn – the squad spawn in the Beta is not functioning correctly – we’ve tweaked and bugfixed some parameters, and works much better now.

· Team colours – we’re tweaking colours to make sure we minimise confusion for colourblind players (an issue close to our hearts as some of us are too J)

Some other notes:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Vehicle controls – we’ve seen that some of you are finding vehicles and helos tricky to control – if you go into the options menu you can reconfigure to stick control and invert your flight choice to suit your preferences.

***SERVER NOTICE – we’ll be testing some new settings on a limited number of servers over the next few days – some of you may experience performance drops, but we’ll strive to keep this to a minimum***

Again, thanks for your participation and feedback, we’ll continue monitoring the forums and get back to you soon.

DICE!

Good news all around. Especially the fall damage, tearing (even though I hardly notice it) brightness tweaks and the heli controls. Amazing news about the perfomance tweaks.. As I said before, it's good now, but not quite perfect. If they perfect it even further, they may end up resolving some of the secondary complaints. Like some weapons being too weak.

Afterall, if you can hit the target easier, you wouldn't need as much ammo in the first place.

Agreed on the weapons being too weak. Except for the shotty though, that seems about right. I wish they would release an updated version of the beta or a patch with the fixes in it. It would make the stress testing much more enjoyable.
