Dirt 5 doesn't really look good for a current gen game either though. The weather effects can look really nice, yes, but other than that the visuals are subpar.

(I'm probably still gonna buy it. I really want something that might scratch that MotorStorm itch.)
You gonna compare to first party Forza and GT again? Those games are not on 8 platforms with and have access to way higher budget and technology

It looks better than 3rd party multiplatform game

Could ps5 probably look and run better possibly. Could it be the hardware design on the series x possibly. Could it be the fact it could be the devkit changing from SDK to GDK possibly. Or could it be the devs or the engine there using possibly?

So, in a video about a multiplatform game:
- He chose to include the 'Optimized for Series X' logo in the thumbnail of the video and 'Is this a mobile game' in the title of the video.
- He chose to comment 'I'm sorry Xbox people, I really am' while it's a multiplatform game. If he's a game engine dev, he should know that there is no reason to assume the PS5 version will perform or look better.
- He chose to mention Halo: Infinite in a video about Dirt 5

Yeah, it doesn't take a genius to understand this guy is generously taking advantage of console wars and is catering to fanboys, and giving this guy a podium is a shame.
That doesn't mean Dirt 5 doesn't have issues, it does. But the way he chose to convey his message is really bad. His involvement in game development is used to somehow legitimize/ give more weight to what he says, which is even worse.
He's literally reacting to an Xbox Series X vídeo. And he said it's coming out on PS5 as Well.

Game looks like shit and that's it.

I think everyone gets this game is graphically unimpressive on every platform, the problem for Microsoft is having failed to bring their own quality first party content to launch their platform they have to rely on such third party mediocrity.

A crime that Sony shut them down. A CRIME.
We don't know how much money they gave them, as Sony tends to be generous in time and money, but it 100% didn't sell well. I got it for free from PS Plus, and has no MTX to bring extra revenue for them. It's the nature of any business.

I think he's probably guilty of perhaps believing this was XSX only or something and that's why he was so shocked. I mean, the guy isn't wrong. It looks exactly like what it is - a cross gen game.

He actually worked on Need for Speed... for android and iphone.
Thats why he was able to identify the mobile quality graphics of Dirt 5 then ...

I hate how evolution studios is being shit on in the name of console wars. This is yet another fantastic looking game with lots of dynamic weather and features that made driveclub look so stunning.

This isn't meant to be a next gen game and the fact that it even runs at 120 fps is something incredible since no other game is offering that at launch.

This is yet another example of how quickly fanboys turn on a studio after they go multiplat. Anyone who has played onrush and knows the dynamic weather effects of this game knows how great these games look.
You are right, but how do you explain just how bad this particular footage is?

I would understand if it was the 120fps version sacrificing LOD and shadows, but this is "just" the 4k60 setting, how on earth did they end up with such poor graphics on this particular track in this particular weather.

That Dirt 5 footage was very underwhelming. I assume some of the flatness is due to YouTube compression, but you can only take that excuse so far. It is a simple crossgen port with 4k, I don't blame them, they are making like... 7 different versions of this game.

Him having to scroll down to make sure he isnt watching old footage made me squeal like a lil piggie.
Honestly, it's hard to tell. In DF's Dirt 5 XSX video they showed a few seconds on Dirt 4 and I could barely tell the difference.

No, No, No, Yes... it it looks like what it is a current gen game optimised for high framerate across multiple platforms.

Again personally I think it looks fun.

Why would I care about that, when I give my 60usd for the game I want the best game I can get. I have every right to be critical of sh1t looking games. You saying I should give them a pass because they are trying to maximise their profits by releasing it on every platform possible and watering down all versions to the lowest common denominator. Hell no.

I game on 120 fps. You don't have to tell me.

The 120 fps bit wasn't an excuse. This game needs no excuses. It's not a next gen game and this moron is treating this like a next gen game. End of story.
It’s being sold as a next gen game by codies and that entitles anyone to critiscize it from that perspective.

It’s not marketed as a BC game, it’s not marketed as a port, remake, remaster or in some way worse than a “native” next gen game.

I think everyone would give this game latitude if it just looked like a poor quality late gen, last gen port - but let’s be honest, it looks even for PS4/Xbone from what we’ve seen.

This is how Codemasters marketed it a few months back :
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/06/10/inside-xbox-series-x-optimized-dirt-5/

And this is from Codies dirt 5 web page:

Sure I can. This screenshot below is from DriveClub. It gets posted here and on era when console warriors want to shit on what is easily the best looking racing game of the generation.

Games can have bad looking levels. DriveClub and Dirt are no exception. i have posted footage of the game looking much much better and you can do a quick youtube search and get dozens of videos showing different levels where the game looks markedly better.

DriveClub can go from looking like this

to this

and that doesnt mean the game is bad looking. Those particular levels look stunning during rain. This video Cherno watched was starting to look much better as the rain started but it ended before the rain picked up.

This is one reason why I think MS' focus on 120fps was a mistake. DriveClub is a great looking racing game, but the advantage it has over virtually every other racing game this gen is that IT IS A 30FPS GAME! It has twice the time to render each frame than every other racer. I know "NeoGAF isn't a person", but the existence of DriveClub is proof positive of why devs continue to release 30fps games in spite of gamers constantly asking for 60.

So MS gets in with their XSX and says, oh now we are going to push 120fps, which means that a huge chunk of the XSX's GPU is going to be dedicated to drawing things twice as fast. I am not sure how much better the XSX is at 120fps than the XOX is at 60fps - maybe they decided to push 120fps with their "cross-gen" strategy for just that reason (of course it backfired on them - Craig Infinite).

Of course 120fps is great, but I still say they need to wow people out of the gate, and maybe push this more when more people have TVs that can do it (but the truth is, it's far more likely less games will use it as time goes on).

If these are the concessions in order to get high frame rate this is going to bum me right out.

According to Codies it is Next gen....

Besides which why should a developer be any better informed about a game than any other member of the public?

He's busy with his own stuff and said in that very video, he was watching t5he footage cold because someone asked him to as the first Xsex footage going.

He works in the industry - that's exactly why he doesn't follow gaming in his spare time. Developers in general don't get out of work and then go reading about what other developers are doing - its boring.

You don't get it do you? It's fine to create a reaction video in which he bashes Dirt 5's visuals. He goes further than that and explicitly bashes Xbox in the process, while it's Dirt 5 that is the problem.
His loyalties are very clear in that video. That being said, I didn't know this guy existed until now and after this, ill definitely keep it that way.

The game is literally fine. 4K 60fps with dynamic res sometimes going down to 1800p, some visual inconsistencies whatever.
This topic is totally blown out of proportion imho.
And people, for the love of god, stop overhyping Cherno. He is not as much of an expert as you think.

the trend to use specific time/weather to hide part of the story is older than i though.

He's not comparing the Xbox Series X version with the PS5 version. He is only commenting on the Xbox Seres X version. If the PS5 version will be the exact same thing, you can feel free to apply his comments to the PS5 version as well. Why does everything need to be spelled out here?

He was a bit lukewarm about Demon's Souls, IMO the best-looking PS5 game.

He's surprisingly ignorant about games in general for someone working in the industry, but I don't gather that he has any particular platform affinity.

Coz next first party games not ready apart from Medium and 3rd party are cross gen.

Its a problem but that doesn't mean it gives ppl right to bash a 3rd party multiplatform game. Its not code masters job to sell you Xbox. They doing what they can do to their best of ability. You do realise they making game for 8 platforms at same time?

Xbox one
One S
ONE X
PS4
PS4 PRO
Series S and X
And PS5
And PC.

You think last of us 2 will look as good as it looks if its on so many platforms?
How is this an excuse? Their job is to sell you their game, and it looks like shit. How does this look so bad?

it does look decidely meh but the resolution/framerate is spot on just that i dunno, could they not make it look better somehow? Still waiting on a game that looks like that old motorstorm trailer, surely we can do that by now, heck even Gran Turismo didnt look all that impressive gameplay wise

Ugh, I had a feeling the video would go that way. Its nothing to do with the hardware, but more just how the game looks. it will look the same on PS5 when it releases there. Its a game taking advantage of some next gen features, but not by making the art better.

I don't see how that is hard to understand. could they put more resources into making it look better or using graphical features of the new hardware? yes, but do they have time and budget to do so (likely no). Some games will look better then others.

but it doesn't even look like a good current gen game, I'm sorry just admit it looks bad.

Those tunnel textures look horrendous and some mobile games look almost on par with this.

you don't have to defend it, it's just fact.

When you get out of your job do you go and read about it for fun in your spare time? The more experienced you are in a role, the less you care what anyone else is doing unless it directly affects you.
