Age: forever sweet 17.
This really is all that needs to be said about how backwards Japan is in some areas.

Often gets teased for her large chest.
I can't tell if animu or Vita game.
Aren't they referred to as "Christmas cakes?"In Japan, when you turn 25, you're already past your prime.
Well Japan, while a generally conservative country is generally more tolerant to this kind of business. It's an example of unhindered capitalism really. These sorts of establishments aren't appealing to the mainstream but can survive because of their relative scarcity and being able to reach an audience that is willing to pay large premiums for their gimmick of sorts. Of course for many Japanese people these sorts of establishments are not very reputable, but Japan in general appears to be pretty slow or unwilling to intervene. (even more so when compared through the lens of western standards, noting that it's not too long ago, only decades really that this sort of thing could be observed in much of the western world as well)Disgusting. I want to know how common this really is in Japan, though. My understanding is that it's a seedy subculture that does not represent the predilections of most men (or women) in the country. That doesn't excuse it of course, it's still absolutely vile, I just want a better understanding of how pervasive of an issue it is.
It's a part-time job for teenagers. They are not exactly trapped, it's a temporary gig. (naturally) For a high school student, they'd be looking at jobs like this or other service industry jobs, as for why these girls pursue these jobs when there is other opportunities, is that these places often pay pretty well compared to other part-time gigs and there is girls that also find this work appealing. Otherwise these places couldn't exist. I am not defending the practice or trying to rationalise it or victim blame. Most of these girls are in it because it's one of the easiest way for them to make money quickly in their position. The real question lies in whether it should be permitted or not.Disturbing. I'm sure it's difficult to make a living in Japan, but the girls/women in this "industry" should have more/better opportunities to get out of it ASAP.
This is the sort of statistic that strikes me as bullshit on its face (a 20% jump in one year is basically impossible if its accurate) but I do wonder how much of an underreporting and under-prosecuting issue there's been that has skewed data historically and if that's undergoing any change
About 1,500 cases of sexual abuse are reported every year, but Yamada, who has handled hundreds of abuse cases during her career, believes the actual number is at least twice that.
People want to pretend that sexual abuse doesnt exist here, Yamada says. Japanese people say that there is no sexual molestation because we have well-grounded morals toward sex but that is a gross misunderstanding.
Yamada says Japan is decades behind other countries in codifying legislation to prevent parents from abusing their children. Whats more, measures to protect children against sexual abuse are virtually nonexistent. In addition, there is a lack of coordination between the institutions that could help to detect cases of abuse welfare centers, police, schools and hospitals and this is putting childrens lives in danger. Health ministry statistics show that at least one child dies every week in Japan as a result of child abuse.
I'm not sure how I feel about these threads still being seen as solid ground to spit some dank fucking memes upon.
For science, you are referring to date with a 16 year old right now, correct? How much does a date cost? Just asking for science.
There's no country without its own issues, so let's never criticize issues in foreign countries. Ever. Because that'd be more terrible than grown men trying to date schoolgirls. What I find most terrible is how your average person would rather read about how fucked up some foreign country is than look inward and work on their own issues. Pretty sad how good this makes your average reader feel.
Who specifically are you talking about? Statements like this don't hold up at all under scrutiny. What I find most terrible is how your average person would rather read about how fucked up some foreign country is than look inward and work on their own issues. More than treating a symptom like these creeper cafes, how about looking deeper into why Japan is so obsessed with HS in what seems like all of their popular media?

What's the point of the article besides demonizing Japanese men and talking down to Japanese culture? I'm sure the people there are aware of it, but reasons and solutions are complex. The people there are best equipped to understand and deal with it, and will at their own pace. There's no country without its own issues, so let's never criticize issues in foreign countries. Ever. As disturbing as this is, my faith has been renewed in humanity after seeing the first page without the airplane pic.
In one Tokyo manga store, in an area marked "adults only," CNN observed content which depicted female characters wearing school uniforms, hair clips and innocent expressions as they engaged in sometimes violent sex acts with dominant characters.
At worst it's demonizing Japanese men... who want to date schoolgirls. This has nothing to do with bashing Japan as a whole IMO. It's good to shed light on these issues. What's the point of the article besides demonizing Japanese men and talking down to Japanese culture? I remember hearing that is because life pretty much becomes work after that point. Like they are worked to the fucking bone so they escape to a time they remember being good.
Yikes, always thought some of it was half a kinda joke of Japan but it's actually a thing. Horrible.
That is correct.
No. I doubt the pedophilia shit in the Catholic Church got much coverage there since there aren't many Catholics in Japan. Also does this sort of thing have anything to do with why Catholicism is somewhat popular in Japanese anime?
Japan's whole view on youth overall seems unhealthy along with their culture of working all the time as they get older is a double whammy. They really need a positive cultural growth to fix some of the ills of their society. They might be able to start producing kids again for one.
Are there actually Japanese people with light brown hair and hazel eyes?
Every country focuses on youth. Teenage porn is one of the most sought after porn genres there is.

Many people are expressing shock over this statement but unfortunately it seems to be a common attitude in Asian societies. Only very recently in India women started delaying getting married (like since the 90's). Otherwise, the idea is for a girl to get married as soon as she finishes school or college.Unfortunately, this is what I've been told by women in Japan. That they're considered "over the hill" and less likely marriage material at that point. I've told them America is a whole different story...crazy to think at 25+ you're an "old maid."
