Microsoft Windows says Hi. Lets not forget Microsoft is bottom of the league in console hardware sales. Not the case with Sony. Sonys gaming division is dependent on Playstation.

Last gen ports is the best PC gamers will get for now.
When it comes to playstation sure. The thread title doesn't make that distinction.

I don't care for pc, but let beggars have a taste of what they've been missing on the console's way out.

you know day 1 is not possible, their hardware just won't run it.
But you care about Zen 2, RDNA2, GDDR6, SSD. And some people care about HZD and Days Gone without pathetic performance and meh controls on dual stick controllers.

If it was up to me then every game would be on PC day one. PC gaming is neutral ground where anyone can make money selling games however they want. Having said that, I understand business decisions in keeping games exclusives to consoles as well.

Windows PC = Microsoft.

It's not a different eco system like it is for Sony. Can't really compare it like that.

Sure you can. Microsoft pays fees to Valve for games sold on Steam just like Sony does. Windows is not a single ecosystem. It is an open operating system where multiple ecosystems exist.

Yes what works for Microsoft won't necessarily work for Sony.

Same applies to Nintendo. They make exclusives to shift hardware. Their hardware only.

Sony should released all their games day one on PS5, PC and Xbox X (fuck S)

MS should release all their games day one on PS5, PC and Xbox X (...and S, since they came up with that fucking thing)

Plenty of other reasons? Such as? The os is the only thing from a gamers perspective you need from ms.
  • Office
  • Windows Store
  • Gamepass
  • Web services
  • Bing

Yeah, if you do literally nothing other than boot up the computer and start Steam, they don't make extra money. That's probably a small part of their customer base though.

Most PC gamers don't have a PC everywhere close to a XSX/PS5 in terms of specs.

today maybe.. but a year form now? two? the point is there are options. and you get more options for the games. If your console game is stuck at 30 fps no matter what (albiet that has not been the case this gen yet for most games...) you could reach that 60 fps on PC even if you had to lower your settings. Options go both ways not just better graphics.

So you want to tell me a Windows PC gamer is equally valuable for Microsoft and Sony?

Come on...

Console gamers buy Sony consoles to play games Day 1.

Why would Sony release their games on PC Day 1 and affect their hardware sales?

PCMR living in Cuckoo land. You only getting last gen ports.
How would Sony releasing ps5 games, day 1 affect hardware sales? Or how would it be less profitable for them?

Take a breather and drop the fanboy mentality for a second. Think about this:
Sony more than likely would go this route anyways, but it seems they are forced to sooner than they would have due to COVID. Sony or MS can't supply hardware for their own customers, so how would releasing games affect hardware? If anything, Sony will make more money selling to more potential customers.

If it's day 1 they'll never buy a console, which goes against the the idea of bigger console consumer base.
By the end of the generation like Sony is doing or never.

Good luck getting a XSX/PS5 equivalent GPU in stock or at a reasonable price. Let alone the cost of a console at 500 dollars.

How exactly is console gaming more expensive and shittier experience? Your words not mine.

BTW, Console games provide options in this day and age. You can choose between 30fps and 60fps experiences. Gaining or sacrificing resolution in return no different to a PC.

Day one. You "strike while the iron is hot." Many of us PC peeps wont pay full price for an old console game. I'm certainly not paying full price for FF7 when they try to bring that shit over here.

Sony will make more money, 7 years from now.
I had at least a handful of PC gamer friends that bought a ps4 for Bloodborne alone.
So yeah, it pushes sales. If you really want to play day one, buy the hardware.
If you don't and can wait 5+ years, don't.

Same reason why Nintendo won't either. Why would I buy a new console when I can play the game on my PC too. Sony needs to sell hardware just like Nintendo. The only way to sell consoles is by giving customers an incentive to buy consoles. Console exclusives Day 1.

How many people would buy a PS5 if Demons Souls and Spiderman Miles Morales were on PC too Day 1. Would you buy a Nintendo Switch if Zelda breath of the wild was on PC day 1 too?

Stop looking through your PCMR fanboy mentality. World doesn't revolve around PC gamers.

At best, PC gamers will get last gen ports of Sony games which are an added bonus for Sony and don't affect current gen hardware sales.

"Overall, Microsoft's search business is growing. The company brought in a revenue of $7.74 billion from search advertising in the 2020 fiscal year."

Gamers don't use Office? And I guess they don't use the Windows Store, cloud, or any of the other stuff either? That doesn't sound realistic at all to me.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree since there are no numbers to look at in that case.

Got one at retail price.

Don't know where you live but here in the UK a XSX/PS5 GPU alone costs 1000 pounds if you're lucky to get one in stock. Not to forget the rest of the PC including CPU, RAM etc which cost another 500 pounds.

Console gaming is more expensive and shittier experience. You are having a laugh.

That isn't what I said at all. I was responding to your assertion that Microsoft and Sony could not be compared when it comes to PC gaming when that isn't true. Sony and Microsoft are both third party publishers on Steam. That's simply a fact.

The fact that Microsoft makes money on Windows, Office, whatever doesn't change that.

Nintendo is different than the rest of them, so not the best of examples. And yes, i bought BOTW on switch, and beat the game on PC. And I would buy it on PC if I had the option to.

How many people would actually buy a PC if these games were available there? Most console gamers don't care to even use a PC, more or less build/buy one. Look how many in this very thread are completely against PC, like yourself for instance. You wouldn't build a PC if you had the option, based on your fanboy posts here.

Sony isn't profitable on ps5 hardware, not now, not anytime soon. So no, it's not about hardware sales for Sony. If you want them to make more money and have more funds for games, drop the console warrior mentality, and let Sony conduct it's business. Jim Ryan is going to be the GOAT 🐐

Day once since that's when the hype is all time high, and the games are at full price. 5MLN of copies within first week is financially a lot different than 5MLN copies sold over 3-5 years and multiple discounts/sales. And as it's already been proven, you just won;t lure the PC crowd on consoles with the exclusives no matter what, it has to be Steam, it has to be 60FPS, etc. I think the publishers are missing a lot by eventually releasing their games years later on PC, when no one talks about those games anymore, there's no media coverage, no noting, just a short "hey, this game is out on PC now!" type of trailer.

Pcs are everywhere. Not just gamers. Where I work has windows pcs with office. I'd argue that's where that revenue is coming from. Like you said though we dont have granular data to show who's using what. Especially since any pc can be a "gaming" pc.

Console gamers are not going to magically transform into PC gamers just because Spider-Man is on PC. There is a use case for both PC and console and a lot of gamers only care about console gaming.

They will make more money by giving PC gamers last gen ports of games which no longer sell hardware and affect current gen hardware sales.

Which is exactly what Sony is doing.

This balance is vital otherwise Sony will lose gamers. Remember there are 50 million PS Plus users too.

Day 1. And to anyone who thinks otherwise: understand that Sony's eventual goal is to have a service that has parity with Game Pass. Which means eventually, PlayStation will launch games day 1 across PC, Console and Cloud (smart devices).

Like you said Alot but not all.

I personally wouldn't buy any console if all the games were on PC.

Make PC my primary gaming platform. Currently it's 3rd after PS5 and Switch.

Do you have a quote that states that by any chance? Several people say this with such confidence, but never any proof. And I've asked several people. Like at least 8 people now, and no paperwork to back it up. I'd like to see it in writing or a verbal statement from someone who actually has authority at Sony. Not some fanboys wet dream.

There are thousands and thousands of people who pay a subscription to Xbox, so not sure why Sony can't implement something?

Seems a lot of people really want to ignore that specific hardware is on the way out and serviices are the future.

Look at the games Sony has ported to PC. All last gen.

Uncharted 4 another last gen to follow possibly with Uncharted collection and Bloodborne which I would love to see on PC.

Theres ten times the amount of pcs out there than any three consoles put together. If absolutely everything came to pc I doubt the console market would flourish as much as it does.

Meh - I think you'll find that you're in the minority ... (at least until PCs can be as compact/portable as a console - though the PS5 is quite large... )

And, over time, I think you'll find your priorities will most likely shift with respect where (and what platform) you want to play games on..

I used to prioritize PC gaming and invested quite a bit in my custom PC over the past several years. A variety of market conditions, availability, where and how I want to play games has shifted my priorities recently.

This also depends on how loyal you are with respect to games - I could really care less about the brand name - just give me options to play where I want.

I think the important part is to get people into the Sony ecosystem as I don’t see traditional console hardware sticking around for the long term. So I’d probably do day 1 but make the games exclusive to a Sony launcher on PC. But they are the ones with the numbers and I think their strategy of a 1-2 year delay is legit too.

Well - not all are capable of playing the most recent games available (nor do PC users use them exclusively for games - if at all) ..

But I can see your point..

i was speaking about people he is part of saying( but for most of them it's more pretending) they will switch to pc only if all exclusives come there.
If you've got the hardware it would only make sense. I don't own an xbox for this reason. When ms starting bringing everything to pc my xbox one x became a paper weight.

HZD was current gen when it launched on pc. Just Days Gone was last gen but only 2 years apart.
Released 3 months before PS5 launched. Days gone and Horizon are not gonna affect Sony hardware sales by the time they were ported to PC.

Not the case with Day 1 PC ports. Won't happen

Day 1 release makes no sense to me. ( I would love it but not from a Sony business pov)

Day 1 Release - Higher hype - more copies moved Day1, under the assumption that PC crowd would have never helped in moving hardware, (and that assumption is where we are stuck). Setting this precedent PC crowd will NEVER buy consoles even if some were hoping to.

Year 2 Release - Revitalizes the franchise hype. All hardware is already moved from initial release. And its mostly working to lure PC players to buy console for that sequel. If PC people played GoW on PC today, I think most could get tempted to buy PS5 earlier than usual to play GoW2.

If I was a money hungry CEO, Release the game on PC once the sequel is about to be revealed and is 6-12 months away. A tantalizing fruit to what PC crowd is missing on. Imagine GoW1 dropping on PC at the same time teaser of GoW-2 was dropped on 2020 at E3. I say make a huge deal of PC releases, no silent ones.
