Love you guys, but sorry to wet blanket.
Almost all of this is fan fiction mixed with some hopes gleaned from ViDOCs from when Destiny was in development infancy in the forever ago.

E.g., That was literally never a plan for VOG. I wrote the high level story for Vault (Kabr, Praedyth), named the armor sets/AI/bosses and wrote the weapon/armor descriptions and gave that to the writers who wrote the deep lore for the Grimoire.

Thanks for that Luke.

It's always nice to separate reality from gamer fantasies.

Has any one posted details from the Edge Magazine cover story? Is there anything new in there or is it just a rehash of the Game Informer expose?

Thanks for clarifying that, Luke.

Post more on GAF please when you're not busy making our dreams come true.

You got to admit tho, most of those things are quite awesome!

I wouldn't mind defending the Curiosity rover in Mars instead of a warsat haha.

Luke, if you see this please tell Deej we don't hate him. I think there were some harsh words on the gaming side previously....

DGAF is life, DGAF is love.

Oh man! A wild Luke appears! Thanks for the response. The VOG is amazing.

Can I ask a question: Why are the Vault Minotaurs called Praetorians, a Roman military name? All the other vault names are from Myth/Religious. Seems like Praetorian would fit better with the Cabal.

Anyone heard from captain science, Dave, and stb? Wondering if they got it done.

I think stb came close to a heart attack along the way but I'm super glad we got him his last triumph. Thanks for checking in earlier!

Awesome! Hopefully stb writes one of his long-form recaps a/b it. I miss those.

Huge thanks to captscience and Dave_6 for slogging through PoE35 for/with me last night.

And to you, LTWood12 for checking in. I continue to be blown away by the helpfulness and friendliness of this community: LT hops into our party chat last night because he'd seen me talking about PoE with Drizz, science, and Dave during the day, and that he was pretty sure I was taken care of but wanted to make sure I had a group ready because he was willing to help out if I needed it. Basically chasing me down to make sure I was set to play through the hell that is PoE35. Amazing.

Also thanks to Drizz for being willing to take me. I really appreciate the offer, but science's schedule freed up so I was glad to do it with all guys from my raid team. It also freed up a slot for Drizz to help another virgin or two to pop their Skolas cherry, so it all worked out.

Between LT, Drizz, the other Skolas shepherds, ToO carriers, etc., I'd like to make a suggestion for a new section in each thread's OP where people can nominate guys for some additional recognition. We all KNOW who these people are, it'd just be a nice nod.

Anyway, long-ish form PoE35 summary, per LT's request!

CONTEXT: This was my first time setting foot in PoE35, and I'd only doing PoE34 once or twice before. Science has done 35 a bunch(?) and Dave did it twice before. Dave and I were Defender (blessing) and Science was primarily Bladedancer.

I made sure I had my ONE treasure key I'd been saving since week 1 or 2 of HoW for just this occasion, and the required open emblem/shader/ship slots, confirmed my weapon/subclass loadout with science (including ascending my FV), and we were on our way.

1) Hive - No Objective - Exposure, Brawler

No sweat, just killing shit. We hung out in the back left "safe place" platform. NBD.

2) Vex - Destroy Mines - Grounded, Airborne

Combining these modifiers is super stupid. It's not a risk/reward thing, because jumping enough to take advantage of airborne means certain death. Grounded apparently kicks in ANY time you're off the ground, so both science and I got zapped just dropping a foot or two a few times, leading to Dave being surrounded, leading to us wiping here once (I think).

3) Cabal - Dismantle Mines - Catapult, Arc Burn

Fuck the Cabal. Seriously.

2 wipes? The arc burn helped us more than hurt; I think the psion wave thing only killed one of us (me) twice. What kept screwing us up was science would go invis to dismantle the far mine, and they'd shoot him anyway; it made no sense. If it wasn't for that fluke, I think we'd have gotten this on the first or second try.

science said this round has historically been trouble, and that it was probably the worst bit in 35. L-O-fucking-L. I wish future me could go back in time and whisper into my own ear "he's lying!"

4) Fallen - Eliminate the Target - Specialist, Juggler

This wasn't bad. Kill dudes, pop a blind bubble near the target's door, shotgun him to death. Repeat. Even my newbie ass thought this was really straight forward.

5) Pilot Servitor - Trickle, Small Arms

Intense, but more annoying than anything due to small arms. Kill adds, put a few rounds in the bullet sponge. Repeat. For 20 minutes. It got super annoying when he'd go hide on the ass-opposite side of the map, or just cower behind a wall in the center. I don't think we wiped, but this is not a good encounter, IMO.

6) Skolas - Brawler, Juggler

Guys. One of three things is going on here:
a) I'm terrible and science and Dave were off their games just a LITTLE bit
b) everyone who says this is a good, controllable counter is way, way better at the game than I/we were
c) this being a good, controllable encounter is an inside joke perpetrated amongst people who have suffered through it to torture people like me and make us experience that same hell

We went into the Skolas fight at about 90 minutes elapsed. We eventually emerged at 3 hours, and awfully close to the ends of our ropes. I've rarely heard science quite so frustrated. I spent some time between attempts muted so as to not offend science and Dave with the stream of expletives, pouting, and crying that was happening. I'm PRETTY sure Dave tried to report a few of the sniper Vandals for cheating.

The first phase wasn't/isn't so bad. We got so we were able to break the bonds consistently on the first burn fairly consistently, but where it'd start to go south is Skolas ending up on the right platform. We almost never died up there, but we'd be hurt enough that the run to the left platform would leave us weakened, so the combination of pressure from adds and the taint would lead to this spiral of death, recovery and last-second-taint-passing. We recovered from that spiral a few times, leading to some VERY long attempts.

I'm not sure if it was because it was getting late or what, but we all had some careless/unnecessary deaths that threw us into that spiral. Looking back, I think that's probably what made it as bad as it was for us; we were almost always playing catch-up rather than controlling the encounter.

We had one heartbreaker of an attempt where we got through all but the last mine, again, due to the "getting behind" thing. Dave was the last one up and just couldn't make it to the mine.

It did have a hell of an ending, though. I was pretty close to just calling it; it was getting late, I was thinking about the chores I still had to do before going to bed, it was only Tuesday, etc., etc. To top it off, I was on my last heavy synth and only had 5 left in the horn. It was a fairly "normal" round for us. Burn him to break the bonds after the first ghosty servitor, get a little too behind in health on the way to the left platform. Recover. Do some laps, killing adds, get a little behind in health. Someone dies. Do a lap, bring him up just in time to grab the taint. Do a lap. We did that a few times, clearing adds, and burning as we could.

We eventually got to a stable situation and deliberately triggered the first mines. Science instructed us to go together, so we did. We got good spawns on the mines (far left, middle, far right), and all three of us were there for all the dismantles.

More running, dying, "FUCK!"-ing, recovering, passing, running, killing adds, running, burning, etc.

We get to another stable situation, let our supers finish charging. I'd already used my last synth and was down to 5 horns. Skolas exposes himself, and we go for it. I pass BEHIND the other guys to not block their fire and take up my position behind the wall. They're firing away, I'm jumping up and shooting. The adds left us largely alone for some reason. Pity? Were they getting tired, too?

The mine warning pops up, science shouts "keep burning him!" I realize it's super important to finish him off so the adds clear for us to get the mines. I shoot my last rocket. I have no idea how many they have left. Skolas has a sliver of health left.

It ends now, one way or another, you fucker!

I charge him with my Found Verdict. Rocket are going off, wolfpack rounds are circling, wire rifle lines shooting across the screen. My radar and hit indicator are going nuts.

He melts! Everything instantly goes quiet. A cipher pops up on my screen! We did it!

"GOTTA GO GET THE MINES!" science gently reminds us.

First mine spawns far left, Dave made it in time to get it started so we could finish it off in time. He stayed there while science and moved to the middle. The second spawns near us, and we both go it. The third one pops far right, and we all move toward it. The end is in sight. Congrats are being passed around. I'm still laser-focused; I just can't do it again tonight. We get to the mine, and I pop my bubble. The last mine being entirely under control at this point, I realize I've been holding my breath, probably since the FV charge and exhale.

"What the fuuuuuuck", I finally say. "Never again."

That shit is bananas. I can totally see a certain personality getting off on that type of intensity, it just isn't me. I didn't experience the euphoria Dave and Verde said they did when they beat it; all I felt was relief that it was over. Like when the dentist finishes drilling. My hands were sweaty, I was clammy, my clothes were damp, my hands hurt from gripping the controller so tight, my jaw and teeth hurt from clenching them, my heart rate was like I'd just run a sprint.

I fill them in on my physical condition, and we move back to the airlock. "Now, I just have to NOT die on my way down to the treasure room...", I say, and the bastards have the nerve to laugh at me! I double check my shader/emblem/ship to make sure I have open slots, then tell them I'm going to go first, so if I die it's my own fault. I very, very cautiously move my way down the platforms. Dave offers "I like to just jump down the middle and boost at the bottom". I remind him he has WAY less to lose here.

I eventually get to the bottom, and, again, realize I'd been holding my breath. I rush up, grab the two small chests, then the big boy. Everything pops as it should. Pose for pictures, saluting the guys who made it happen for me.

Anyway, thanks again, guys, for spending entirely too much of your own time and likely significantly shortening your respective life expectancies making sure I got this taken care of this week. It's been a great year playing with you two, the other guys in our little raid group, and the various other DGAF folks I've had the chance to play with. I'm really looking forward to another one.

But for now, I think I take my leave of Destiny until TTK. I need a break to recover from last night. I need some Rocket League, and some heavy beers.

I can still hear that bastard Skolas belly laughing at me.

Thanks for the clarification! We always love hearing from you guys!

BTW can you tell us is this still on track as a boss in TTK?

I would probably buy Comet if they added
lesbian bears
as the next boss.

It'll be sort of like that.
You'll know it when you see it.

Nice to see Luke clarify things. Hopefully we have more developer involvement in the future.

Also, still waiting for the 1UP Yours reunion show.

Soon time for the stream! Hype hype!

Great to see luke smith in here. Dude get me on the beta testing of this game! I play unhealthy amounts of this game haha.

Yep. Founded by Augustus Caesar. They started as elite, wound up becoming incredibly corrupt. They even held an auction for the office of Emperor to the highest bidder one time.

That is an interesting thought about their purpose in the Vault. Thanks for that.

Hello Luke! Thanks for the clarification! Makes me feel a whole lot better knowing none of this was true and cut out.

Does anyone want to help a level 34 Warlock get to Mercury in Trials? I am just an average player and none of my friends are on at the moment. I would give a spare code I have lying around for Halo: MCC as gratitude :)

until you realize how awesome it would have been if some of it was.

in particular, being imprisoned in the arena in a gladatorial battle before meeting the queen, solar Last Word and arc Hard Light, visiting the Twilight Gap, etc.
