Devil's Third on IGN now Wii U Exclusive

People that think Nintendo is not winning this e3 is full of it. ;)

People who don't care about Nintendo IP aren't going to change their minds because they showed a new Zelda, a new Kirby and a new platformer with Toad.

You have to realize that people may not be interested in things you think are the second coming of Christ. We all like different things.

nintendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(not a port beg)

Wow, these impressions are brutal.

Is it possible that the gameplay was bad because the guy didn't know how to play? I can't watch the stream.

I guess it's possible that it didn't help (for example, they mentioned wall running but the only thing like that he does during the demo is scale a wall), but it looks fundamentally flawed to me. Maybe different enemies would help. Like if there are more melee focused enemies that could show off the melee system better.

The MP "design" looks like the kitchen sink approach. There is so much shit going on. No wonder no one wanted to pick this up.

Acting as a messager here for Mlatador (banned). Here's a post he made a few months ago:

Mlatador said:
Ok, Itadaki, what are you trying to tell us here...

Itagaki said:
I wanted to go for the metallic feeling of the Breitling that I love so much. But I don't really wanna tell you exactly why, sorry ;D"

Detectiveconan.jpg

Well... I did some digging and think I've solved the mystery, so let's START!

As you all know:
Breitling is a world famous watch manufacturer and very old.
Nintendo is a world famous cosumer electronics company and very old.
Breitling was founded: 1884
Nintendo was founded: 1889

Difference: 5 YEARS

In other words, Breitling came first, then came Nintendo.

This is important: Itadaki said, the game will be "announced this year", which means 2014, but he didn't say it will be "released" this year.
Therefore, I expect the game to be announced THIS year (at E3), but released in the beginning of 2015... on Wii U

Let's continue our investigation:

  • Devil's Third was - for the first time ever - announced in 2010
  • Devil's Third - if my prediction is right - will come out on Wii U in 2015

Difference: 5 YEARS

In other words, Devils Third (the announcment) came first, then - 5 years later - it was released on a Nintendo console (the Wii U), just like Breitling came first and - 5 years - later came Nintendo.

I know Japanese hints can be confusing at times, but this one was pretty easy to solve.

I hope to god you can shoot in third person with all weapons, swtitching to first person is the worst idea imaginable

Not surprised at all, and glad to see Ninty pick it up! They really need games like that as they have more than enough sugar coated platformers.

Okay. I ran into speaker problems after the Nintendo thing ended, so I didn't see this until a short while ago. I checked out the IGN feed and watched the SP trailer, the MP trailer, and a few minutes of the SP gameplay. It really looks... dreadful. I'm a big fan of Itagaki's approach to action design, but... wow. What happened here.

There are serious issues with how poor the shooting mechanics look. The instant switch between third person and first person ironsights is very jarring. The effects are weak. The melee looks uninspired. But worse of all, nothing looks satisfying. It looks like a mish-mash of whatever they thought was "badass" and when put together it feels like just another janky Japanese action shooter which could have been on the PS2 early in the generation before people fully figured out the best way to design shooters.

Really, really disappointed to see a big unveil for this game again for it to look this bad. Itagaki what happened? :(

is this nintendo published? if yes, i am positive that they will turn it around somehow. itagaki is a brilliant guy and nintendo may even help them to finish the game up if nintendos name is going to be associated with the game.

that said I dont think it looks as bad as some people say. sure it definately looks like a low tier PS3&360 game at the moment but im sure it still has some time until development is finished.

It's... more than that.

Its just looks really janky and DAMN ugly. Like there's no transition animations between third person view and ADS and shit. Its rough, bro. Itagaki hit hard times.

No dude, it straight up looks like an early last gen game bad and when I say "early last gen game" I'm not talking about graphics.

The very core looks totally weak here.

It looks like a Japanese dev in 2007 decided that they wanted a badass western third person shooter with lots of foul language and blood and attitude... but they hadn't quite mastered the PS3 yet so it looked sort of rough and not at all competitive with what else was coming out. Stranglehold, Wet, Quantum Theory, and Mindjack are all sort of comparisons that float in my mind.

I guess it's possible that it didn't help (for example, they mentioned wall running but the only thing like that he does during the demo is scale a wall), but it looks fundamentally flawed to me. Wow.

Feels... feels bad, man. That just feels so far removed from what Itagaki is known for. He's notorious for being unwilling to show things that aren't ready yet, as well as any half-baked concepts.

The game looks like the most generic of generic 3rd person brown ass shooter with terrible movement, clunky aiming system, shitty physics, AI, animations and effects.

Like it doesn't look like an Itagaki game AT ALL. Looks straight up like a shovelware quality game.

Reminded me of a Xbox 360 game circa 2006 or something, Advanced Warfighter? Something like that, really dated design and looks wise.

Seomthing wrong happened here.

Yes I don't understand what happened. Did he really run out of money and/or passion? Did he not want to show this off yet? What's going on? Itagaki is not some talentless hack. Why do the animations, basic mechanics, gunplay, and even multiplayer design just look so dated and unpolished? I really want to understand what is going on here.

Wow.. very disappointing :( I've been looking forward to this since it was first announced. At what point did it turn into a completely generic 3rd person shooter? Expected something much more than this from Itagaki.

You know what it reminds me of? The Deadpool game, except with just a fraction of the melee options, a heavier focus on cover instead of mobility, less satisfying looking gunplay, and not nearly as goofy or fun poking at itself (except in the MP customization).

That looked...awful. Graphically it looked rough but the real issue was it just didn't look fun to play. At all. Gone was the fast and fluid gameplay from the initial trailer. Here it looks like a clunky, generic TPS. Wonder what happened with this game.

Dahbomb summed it up much better than I could.

He probably lost a lot of drive during those years without a funder for his game. Maybe they should have started from scratch when Nintendo contacted them?

didnt he had to change engines mid development because of the THQ debacle?

Lol this is exactly what the footage reminded me of.

And WET looks better and from what I've seen of the gameplay in DT on that IGN stream plays better than it too. I loved NG1 & 2 modern action classics, but what his shown so far? Looks like it's from a third rate dev.

Awesome game indeed!

Indeed. Wet had it's own share of issues...mainly with presentation and visuals..but that game still looked way better than this ..I hate to use the word as it sounds so extreme, but this does look like garbage to me

Who knows maybe with a year or so more of dev time the project can be turned around

I chalked it up to just HOW MUCH was there...as in substance. Perhaps they shrugged off the polish in favor of amazing gameplay?

I don't know about everyone else but the sheer variety of what I saw was mind blowing. It literally looks like a mixture of every type of action game type that has ever existed and then some.

Wii U doesn't have the power to blow you away with visuals compared to PS4 and XB1...so why bother wasting its power on graphical polish? Use it for a better player experience.

Really?

I think the graphics and art direction are really poor, but gameplay-wise, it looks like it could be ace. The shooting looks really solid, and the mix of brutal Ninja Gaiden style melee combat with bloody dismemberment looks awesome.

That art direction though....it's just so drab.

Nintendo was pretty generous giving them a deal.

I want to know what they saw in the game. Even from that short glimpse of gameplay, it looks bad. I normally don't like to judge until there's plenty of footage, but goddamn, it looks like something I would have played in the early years on PS360.

Stump mentioned Quantum Theory, that's pretty accurate from my time with that game.

At first I thought it wasn't included in the digital event because of its adult nature, but in reality they were simply too embarrassed to include it as-is. Nintendo should seriously stage an intervention. Get Itagaki to can this nonsense and start fresh on something worthwhile, cause this certainly ain't.
