2 new ports in the span of 6 months after 6 years from the original release. Is it too much to ask for a new game in the series or a Vita & PC port/remaster of VK 2 & 3?

Or we can keep the Valhalla Knights series buried and never speak of it again.

As for a new game in the series, one was announced back in November for Winter 2016 release.

You are putting so much effort into this..cute :3.

PS4 won the comparison, my post are in line with that. good try I guess?
edit:no need to get defensive about it lad. PS4 only users get a quality port.
The passive aggressiveness in your emoticons haha.

That's a bit of a silly statement, given that it takes all of 2 seconds to force 16xAF on everything on PC.

Here's what the PC version looked like for me:

Also, it's the only version which allows you to use my high-res vectorized icon mod:

This and the higher res cutscenes models. As I said, DF seems to have overlooked some aspects in their analysis.

This is a great port; looking forward to playing this game properly for the 1st time ever.

Steel Case looking great on my shelf.

Kinda makes me wish all games came with default steel boxes.

While true, the 'force 16x AF through driver' argument is kinda flawed imho.

I mean, out of the hundreds and thousands of VC owners on Steam, how many of them who actually do that? Is the little trick well-known to the average joe? I believe this DF face off is targeted to those majority of gamers. Because after spending like 30 hours in VC, I've never actually did it either.

Proper UI element rescaling and cutscene models are a pretty big deal beyond all the other niceities of the things Durante did with the port. I mean... I have 52 hours in that game primarily due to wor dof mouth surrounding it and it getting the D. seal of approval :D

The option is at least there, though, since a PC isn't a console that is locked into certain settings. Would the person who wouldn't bother doing something so simple even care about the comparisons presented in the article?

the kind of people who watch these performance comparison videos would be up to the task i bet.

this "trick" is as easy as going into a games options and changing settings.

What if people have no idea that the problem is actually exist?
I mean, people who just buy the game, download, and play without reading about the tinkering and stuff. This article is the easiest method for those kind of people in deciding which version to buy.

I'm quite confident to say that I'm not new to PC gaming and I modded my games a lot. But I had no idea that VC's AF is set to low by default, and you have to force it through gpu driver to fix it. The option is not there, except if there's the option to set AF to x16 in launcher or in-game graphic settings. It's been a while and I don't remember.

I thought PS4-XBO DF wars were something... but God, why PC users can't give a break? of course you can mod everything, but here they are talking about default game.

Why not only consider autodetec or default config then ?
I have hard times to t understand why we have to avoid possible things because they are a lot of people who don't care when we speak of thread/article that surely are not written for people who not care ?
And for them why not consider the best each can offer ? it seems more logic.
When argument come down to uninterested people or comparison fairness or others unrelated restrictions and scoping the objective can't be to speak about tech each platform can bring into thoses games.
But if it makes you happy ps4 is the best version if x,y,z,...* is not considered in the
equation.

read previous post to find the list in the current situation.

How so, they should always use the base PC game for these face offs or it would be a never ending article.
Does the base PC game run @ 4K? 8K? 30 hz, 144hz?

Having a wide variety of set ups and thus embracing and representing how the PC version scales IMO belongs to what is considered teh PC versions... all the way to extremely simple mods which make the game that much better.

Again with the PC users thing... Can't we have a civilized discussion without console war bullshit ?

Just a friendly advice that if you use an nvidia card change the settings in the global settings of anastrophic filtering to 16x, power management to max performance and pre rendered frames to 1 (heavily reduces input lag if you're using vsync).

PS4 version is better than the vanilla PC version. Mods and driver level adjustments turn the tides.

Even then, this isn't true at all levels. Water reflection are missing in the PS4 version. Basically it all comes down to blurrier AA which is fixed by downsampling and AF which is fixed at driver level.

Well thats obvious as that is the point with user mods.
Base game on PS4 doesn't have reflections and doesn't use AF neither mipmaps creating a lot of shimmering in distance textures. You can't fix those problems. In PC, mipmaps are used so you can force x16 AF, use better AA, better resolution, better textures, better map icons, .... and "Gallian Crossfire" rebalance mod to improve the gameplay.

But whatever.

No, he has a point though with mods not being relevant to the discussion. I mean at this point we could also bring on Reshade too. But your point is still fair about resolution being higher so a cleaner IQ even on modest machines, higher framerates, 16xAA at driver level and reflections.

Now, on a more general view, yes, mods for the game brings it to a whole new level.

Thinking of mods, I suppose it's pretty much impossible, but I would love to see those awful pre-rendered cut-scenes replaced.
Yes, its impossible obviously....

If DF are taking the official game as it is when you boot it up as the comparisons between the ports, it makes sense for you guys to omit unofficial mods, even though its obviously an option for users.

I think it would be obvious that that kind of support would elevate the PC version beyond a console version by default..but i also wonder why the article brought up 4k downsampling if it was just a vanilla look at the porting job

Why when the res they are comparing is 1080, we all know PC can go upto almost any res you want and you can mod the game to bits there needs to be a base line in these face offs or what's the point.

Then what's the point with comparing with the 720p PS3 release ?
Downsampling is a form of AA. That's comparing the game AA solution and the PC others AA solutions.

Would imagine it is a like-for-like out of the box (bought on PSN vs bought on Steam) comparison DF are doing.

What % of PC Gamers would apply driver level fixes and mods?

Would only be the hardcore. Didn't the Steam survey say the majority are still running below 1080p?

Fair point for mods. For driver levels though ? Disagreed.

Playstation 4 version is best version. Man, everyone should use Sega's devs to do these console-to-pc ports.

Learn from these guys, Namco Bandai.

This and the higher res cutscenes models. As I said, DF seems to have overlooked some aspects in their analysis.
They didn't overlook anything DF doesn't review mods they review a game as it is presented vanilla. They have always done it that way because including mods would be a pain for the reviewers.

Why is everyone so impressed about adding some AA/AF/LOD? If people can do this with driver tweaks, I can't imagine it taking much effort from the folks at SEGA.

Could be wrong, but the praise for the port seems to be OTT. That said, the game didn't need that much/any work done to it to begin with, so I kinda get it.

I didn't said they overlooked things because of not reviewing or taking mods into account. I said they overlooked things like reflections on water for exemple (which is the base game) or the texture filtering comparison at driver level, to see how the game behave on that matter.

The water reflection is a bit strange to overlook but otherwise I thought their whole prelude was about how they only use the options provided in the game. Or am I thinking about a different group?

Edit: Should add I agree with you pc is the way to go if you have a half decent machine just defending DF for not using mods or in tweaks in a review.

It's generally a strange position to ignore reality due to the ignorance argument.

I agree though. Mods shouldn't be in. As for tweaks, it depends of what you call tweaks. Ini modifications, sure. Driver level options ? Not sure about that.

Which is fair.

In a world without driver tweaks and mods, the PS4 has the best version. I feel like I'm stating the super obvious.
PC will always have the best version as long as mods and enchancement tools exist, there's no doubt about that :p

Assuming 1080p & the water reflection thing being a bug, you're right.

Honestly though, I could play this on PS3 and still be super happy. It's a very good (albeit flawed) game.
