Are we shitting on Polygon for giving an improved version of a game an improved score, or for not giving the greatest work art ever wrought by human hands a 5000/10 score like it deserves?
I don't know why there is hyperbole necessary.

Honest, non-trolling question: how are they supposed to mantain a stable 60 rate with Uncharted 4, which from what we've seen looks almost CGI if a PS3 game has dips?

Uncharted 4 is written ground up for the PS4. This is ported PS3 code
 
Exactly what I expected (actually a bit better, I was guessing 45fps when the Bloater starts throwing his framerate bombs), so I'm not bothered by that at all. Just one more day!

No, they said they'd been working hard to get the average as far above 60fps as possible.
Judging by how little time the game spends below 60fps, the average has to be pretty significantly above. (if it wasn't capped at 60 for the final product)

Truth is more games are shooting for 60fps on PS4 than any console this gen or last. Just because they don't hit it 100% of the time means little. Even Call of Duty which is the game most known for being 60fps has never been locked and the FPS situation has gotten worse as time as gone on.

Man, I put 60fps above all else when tweaking games on my PC, it's the most important setting to me, but I'll still have to agree that people are going nuts over it the past few months. While I was playing MGR and saying "holy crap the performance is shit", I was also reading a good amount of posts talking about how good "60fps" feels, and how DmC was shit for being 30fps (it also ran like shit on PS3, at least the demo), and now a game that stays at 60fps the majority of time and only drops noticeably when shit gets the most realest is not worthy of being called a true locked 60fps game?

I mean, technically, people saying this are right, but chill, people. This is a 60fps game, no other way about it.

I guess some people here would say I don't really play Dark Souls II on PC at 60fps because it drops to like 40fps when the bonfire fog comes up when I rest at 3200x1800, even though it's 60fps everywhere else, with no exceptions.
 
Any complex full retail game? Not a lastgen port and not a psn arcade game that has n64 graphics?

I would rather take statistics into account than follow some of the troll posts here.

TLoU definitely sits a good time on the 60FPS and only dips on high loads. Comparing it with a game just targeting 60FPS or even running unlocked, TLoU delivers a wonderul experience.

DigitalFoundry should add more statistics like how many frames had a given frametime, what was the avg framerate and so on.

Seeing the TR:DE having an avg framerate of 52, TLoU could definitely be >55 what means, that you'll get your butter smooth experience for most of the time.

That's a good thing. Locking the frame-rate to 60fps would be stupid, since every time the game dips under 60fps, you would experience frame drops. Locking the frame-rate to 30fps is acceptable, because you know the game will never dip under 30fps.
 
A PS2 can probably run those 2D games at 1080p no problem. )

Back on topic, 60fps mode for me, looks very nice, I'll probably switch to 30 just for screenshots or for second playthrough.
Great performance for a great looking game.
 
To me, that 60fps footage looks....weird. I'd probably try it but I'm not sure I could get used to it. I'd probably stick to 30. I think it's because this is a much slower paced game, though. I've played 60fps games many times before (Gran Turismo, Forza, Nintendo games), but they don't look weird to me because I can't really tell that they're 60. Maybe it's because I've never seen them at 30 like with TLoU.

Because you're literally seeing the difference between both 30 and 60 on the same game. When people compare 60fps from other games it becomes the common excuse most detractors try to use to convince themselves that they don't notice the "difference". Good thing though, is that you can switch the frame-rate on the fly so you can experience it for yourself. Once you get the feel of it, I can surely say it's way too difficult to go back.

It's even better than that sounds. Just watched the video, it isn't even something like "it stays around 50fps during the Bloater fight", it literally only goes to 48~49 fps at the moment of the impact and if the bomb lands right in front of you. Slightly behind you? No problem. Hitting an NPC away from you? No problem.

It ran GT4 at 1080i remember?

Really? Consider me impressed.

Only the xbox one is able to handle 60fps at 1080p with the glorious GPU compared to the shitty low end GPU in the PS4.
 
I've played both Rayman Origins and Legends. If vita and 3ds can run those, then 6th gen consoles apart from DC can too and at higher quality.

Ps2 is more powerful than both ads and vita, and it ran GT4 at 1080i at 60 fps, and to me GT4 seems like an infinitely more complex game from rendering perspective.

Just stop. It wasn't 1080i, see my link above. There is no chance in hell the PS2 could natively render any of those games in 1080p, you're delusional.
 
It's nonsense to force rock-solid 60FPS that never dips on graphical intensive games. TLOU: R is 60FPS like 98% of the time and if they would like to have it on 100% they would also have to downgrade these 98% where they already reached the goal. Or things like a dynamic resolution, but that would only help if the GPU was the "problem" and not the CPU when the framerate drops.
Also (except for one situation) in the framerate-analysis it weren't big fluctuations, only some 2-3 FPS drops one after another. That's much better than drops like 60 > 45 > 55 > 46 > 60 or something like that.
