well that's a mystery solved! Still bugged the hell out of me as a kid. "Did everyone's parents die?!"
The family tree is made by Don Rosa, after notes left by Barks, so it was published long time after the major characters were introduced. Some of the more obscure characters were then introduced by Rosa in his Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, but I think majority of Duck fans see it as canon.
Rosa did talk to Barks about the family tree. I know that Rosa had intended for Matilda McDuck to marry Ludwig Von Drake, to explain how the latter could be Donald's uncle, but Barks vetoed that.
Donald Duck has had his own magazine in The Netherlands since 1952, I doubt there's a person in the country that didn't grow up reading it, very big part of our society, I would say.
It's the same in Finland. And we had the first issue in December of 1951.
Same in Norway, but it started in 1948.
I think at some point during the eighties the circulation of the magazine was 250k, while the population at the time was around 4 million. I can't imagine there are many other comic magazines with the same level of success in the world.
Waiting for Dolan.
Kind of hilarious how Inception is so incredibly, incredibly similar to one of his comics one can immediately wonder...............
Did anyone of you fellow Donald Duck & Co readers buy one of those Huey, Dewey, and Louie Junior Woodchucks Guidebook? It felt so amazing as a kid getting one of those after reading all the stories where the book answered every conceivable question. Not that the real thing was close to that lol. But it was a pretty neat book of basic survival. After that I think they started releasing several themed versions that weren't as cool. Not sure if anything like it was released in English.
Amusing how they blocked the trio's dad, but what about their mum, Della? She looks evil. Was she evil?
Time to read the best Donald comic ever created again (The Duck Who Never Was, by Don Rosa)
Don Rosa always got away with more than most of the other Disney comic artists. Along with Carl Barks, his comics are the only Disney comics worth caring about.
I agree. There is some other stuff that is okay, like some of the Italian authors, but Barks and Rosa is what it's all about.
Love Donald Duck. Grew up reading his magazine for years.
I'm kinda freaking out about the English names of Kwik Kwek en Kwak, get outta here with those silly names,
True that, the Dutch translators really knocked it out of the park with their naming back in the 40s(?). Willie Wortel, Guus Geluk, Oom Dagobert, de Zware Jongens - I've been reading the original English versions of Life and Times recently, and I prefer it to the Dutch versions except for the naming.
Love those.B.R.A.L.L.E.N.D.E. B.U.L.L.E.B.A.K. - Breedsprakige en Robuuste Afdwinger van Lovenswaardige Listigheid, Eindeloos Nijver Doorzettingsvermogen en Eerlijkheid, tevens Bestrijder van Uitzonderlijk Lafhartige Luisheid, Ergerniswekkend Broddelwerk en Amateuristische Knoeierij

Does the English version have the same sort of acronym jokes for the woudlopers?
You know like.
Love those.
Yep.
A scene from Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck which is unlike anything ever seen in Disney comics. Not linking the full picture, just in case someone wants to avoid spoilers:

Scrooge's father Fergus dies
Donald is a legend. Love him so much.
Disney's best animated character ever, as far as I'm concerned.
