Hey moron ref...side control is AS GOOD AS IT GETS for a submission artist. It's even better than the mount if you are looking to finish a fight with a sub, because you have more options there. There is no "improve your position," you asshole, know-nothing ref.

As far as the rest of the night goes...well, that about wraps it up for Elite XC.
jorge ortiz was a really bad ref- he nearly stopped the kimbo fight before it was really over. he touched seth while he was pounding on kimbo and then stepped away... it was weird. you never touch a fighter or get in the middle of things unless there was a foul or the fight is over. just odd... and why you would have him doing your main event? i didnt see any refs i recognized anyway, so who knows, maybe he was the best there.
jared shaw is such a fucking toolbag. if you watch the replays of kimbo getting knocked out, in one of them you can see jared outside the ring shouting while kimbo is down at the ref. at first, me and my friends thought he was saying 'stop the fight' but that didnt really make any sense to us- why would he want it to be stopped? the guy is riding everything on kimbo- as is elitexc. then we watch it a few more times and tried to read his lips- he was saying to stop the fight because he thought kimbo was getting hit in the back of the head. then, when the ref stopped it, he threw his hands on his head and grabbed his hair like he just lost his life savings in a horse race.
could you imagine seeing that at a UFC? could you imagine dana white screaming when chuck is losing a fight? ridiculous.

See CBS is a pretty damn old company. They took a HUGE risk putting this sport on the national stage. They did so well the first time around, but by the second one you could see the cracks. XC tried to do the biggest match of there lifes and couldnt pull it off. If CW wasnt fucked up with Dawn Osteroff and her shitty business dealings with MRC and refusing to work with 4K over promotion - CBS would have NEVER put XC on the main network - knowing this guys history.
But knowing how big the fight game was, and hopeing for a saturday night staple (which 30 years ago they were the kings of sat night and sat morning) - they gave him a chance. It looked good but then they realized... holy shit. We got screwed.
I only hope to the man upstairs that Gina and the ladies of XC and of Female MMA dont lose out because of this monstrosty. There are other groups but as long as I said before - UFC is the major force in MMA - there isnt too much of a future left.

What kind of weak punches is this guy throwing? Are they not allowed to throw direct fist punches or something? He's like, swinging his arm in the general direction of Slice's head; some sort of weird side-arm punch. I'm so confused.
It's way to early to say EXC is dead. EXC sold itself to very casual fans and just guys who wanted to see a fight on a saturday night without having to pay for it. Many guys I know will never give Dana White money, but they will order a pizza on a saturday night and watch MMA on basic
Hardcore MMA fans hate the EXC and Kimbo so this really does nothing in that area. We won't see how casuals respond to it until the ratings for the next show hit, and if MMA booking is anything like wrestling or boxing booking, than they can just spin the loss away.

It hurts the Elite XC match making wise. What is next for Kimbo? Set him up with a can? The casual fan will not think Kimbo is this ferocious street fighter that the Elite XC is trying to portray him as. Plus the media will call Elite XC and Kimbo out on it. Charlie, Seth was throwing quick arm shots because Kimbo was out and Seth was looking for the ref to stop it. Its common in boxing and MMA, when a guy is rendered pretty much defenseless, either through getting rocked, fatigued, what have you, an easy and safe (for both fighters) way to end the fight is for the fighter in control to throw flurries of quick shots, not really for damage but just to connect, not giving the other guy time compose himself and all but guaranteeing the ref will stop it.

I don't see why this was a surprise to the promoters or fans. Kimbo was a MMA rookie, with no wins over good talent. The best guy he fought, a fragile chinned, prone to gassing out James Thompson gave him all he could handle and then some. That fight also showed that Kimbo's punching power isn't anything out of the ordinary for a HW. Seth might not be an elite HW, but the guy is a real pro with years of experience, not some untrained bar bouncer or weight lifter like the guys Kimbo was fighting (and not knocking out) in those street videos.

Kimbo took 2 minutes of unanswered shots to the face by James, with both his arms trapped, yet magically, with Skalla yelling at the ref, the fight went on. James was then robbed in the next round by getting "Ko'd" even though he was standing, and saying WTF to the ref when it finished. Kimbo collapsed on the floor after the fight, needing to be helped up.
Then the Shaw's said to the media that James was "going to the hospital, and everyone should pray for him, he is seriously hurt". While they said this he was standing in the crowed, drinking water, thinking WTF?
Shaw constantly avoided putting Kimbo against anyone who stood a chance. Shaw even said no to putting Kimbo against other 3-0 up and coming HW's. Shaw said no to putting Kimbo against a damn near 50 year old Duke Rufus, who said he would even do it with one hand behind his back.
It's not really Kimbo's fault. He was trying to make money. Nobody can blame him for that. He was humble, and he said himself he is still learning.
However Elite XC is pathetic, they duped fans, and made the sport look horrible.

And you're not the first person to say he's a bad ref, he did the same thing with Antonio Silva vs Ricco Rodriguez on the last Kimbo undercard in miami. He seems to stand them up way too soon. My uncle is a 6th degree black belt in kenpo karate so I think he has a different backround than all this MMA stuff. He used to own a karate school and KO Boxing Gym in Miami where alot of MMA fighters would train, so I guess that's how he made a connection and ref's the elite XC fights. But I don't know how much he knows about MMA, or refereeing for that matter. Still, he does have alot of knowledge of martial arts.
And back about Kimbo, I still don't see how anybody thinks Kimbo was exposed. KIMBO THREW THIS FIGHT I'm sure of it. There's no way that little tiny tiny baby punch knocked him out of his world. I can't explain it, but Kimbo fucking threw himself down and didn't defend. The only explanation I can think of to throw the fight, is that Kimbo is sick of the fame and pressure. He wants out. He wants to take his money and be done with it. Understandable. Everyone loves to hate him, but he never claimed to be the best, he was always respectful of MMA and it's fighters. I just can't see in a million years all of his Bas Rutten training, for this. Nobody hit him harder than that little love tap in training camp? Yeah right, it's bullshit. It angers me, but I think Kimbo wanted to lose.

No one throws a fight in that manner, sorry. You think throwing punches at the ref because you don't know where the fuck you are is part of the game plan?
Looking at the cut over Kimbo's left eye in the post-fight interview, it's obvious that initial KO punch was more vicious than it looks. It's what caused the gash. No doubt Kimbo's chin could be tougher, but that hook tore his eyebrow open...

One more thing to show you how freaked out the ref was. You can notice clearly that when Kimbo goes down and Petruzelli goes to get on top of him, the ref has a mic and you can hear him say "YOU HURT HIM!" like as if to stay "oh shit stop!" At one point he almost is about to pull him off of Kimbo, he didn't know wtf was going on. Guess he didnt' know the fix was in.

Kimbo did not FIGHT tonight. If he wanted to throw the fight, he didn't make it look believable. He didn't throw the fight. He got clipped in the jaw, it compressed the nerve where the mandible meets the cranium and it put him out. It doesn't take much, just a hit to connect the right way. Some folks black out completely, some lock up and other lose all equilibrium but it doesn't matter how "tough" you are, that nerve gets hit, you are in trouble.

are you people saying kimbo threw this match out of your fucking minds? this is the worst thing that could of happened to elite xc. i bet they would much rather kimbo lost by submission than by just getting dominated in the first 15 seconds of the fight by some guy with pink hair. if he lost by submission then they could of always said that kimbo is a novice and could not protect himself from a submission and many would of bought it. kimbo is supposed to be this wrecking machine with incredible stand up and he got crushed by some unknown to most casual mma fans. elite xc really needed kimbo to win so they could then hype up a rogers/kimbo fight for elite xc's upcoming ppv. no way will that ppv get much hype after their goldenboy got his ass handed to him. btw kimbo did not see that punch coming and that is why he went down. a lot of the time the shots you don't see coming are the ones that do the most damage.
