So doing the side quests was optional, as far as completing the game goes, but you missed out on some useful items if you skipped them so... I dunno, just thought it was worth mentioning. But yes I agree, the side quests were pretty bad. I’m hoping they use FFVIIr as a learning experience, take the negative feedback to heart and make changes in future installments. I enjoyed my time too, but I think the experience can still be improved.
And I reeeeaaalllly need them to open up the world for the next installments. I can’t do another 140 hours of hallways
FF appeal has always been how open the world was: exploring, fishing, chocobos, towns, caves, hidden chests, hidden dungeons and fiends, etc. They really need to have it feel more open world to keep me interested. If they do that, they can just lump all the side quest content into exploring the world, and not have it be a list of fetch quests in each town. It can just be hidden, optional stuff you find in the open world map that nets you some nice materia or weapons.
