So how does crafting work in this game? Is it worth it for the average player to look into leveling some of the crafting classes or would I be wasting my time before I beat the main story?
Well, for levels 1-50 it isn't too difficult to level crafting classes alongside your combat classes and craft your own HQ armor and weapons for cheap. That said, I would only suggest that if you enjoy the process of crafting.

Crafting works by leveling one of the eight crafting classes. They are full classes with a full range of levels, a large list of crafting skills, crafting equipment, and class quests. I find crafting to be pretty fun. Just making items is really easy, but making HQ items takes a mix of skill, good equipment, and luck. I suggest you just try starting a crafting class and see if it is your idea of fun. Even a low-level crafter can theoretically make some decent money on the marketbiard.

Since they are bringing in people like Matsuno to write/design stuff for the game, do you think they could get Yoko Taro to write/design for 5.0?

I would pay double for an expansion like that.

Performing at the top of the world doesn't seem very safe.

Would you pay triple for Nier event?

Has anyone ever had to deal with a dead security token? Mine still works, but I'm worried that it may die any time. I've had it since 1.0. I bought the 1.0 LE for $15 so I could the token for extra inventory space in XI. I don't know what a person is supposed to do when a token dies. There's an emergency removal website, but from what I see, that's only for software tokens.

I switched to the phone app years ago now. I have a token from the 1.0 CE too. It wasn't worth using the hardware token forever knowing one day it would die. Squenix support is literally the worst on the planet and you would do well to avoid any avoidable contact with them.

The two times I've had to remove my security token from my account it went perfectly fine and took about five minutes. I did call right when they opened so maybe that's why

It's very involved and takes a long time unless you got $$$ and the gathering classes maxed.

Make sure to save aetherpool/rowena's token (shire)+micro tomestone/zurvan totems for a sam/rdm weapon too obviously for when it hits 60

There will surely be the intermittent gear you can use for leveling (like the 115 rainbow set) added just so you don't need to touch raids or anything like that.

yeah, but if you're at that point already you can prep well before it's actually out

Leveling speed, 51-60 forever. Profit and fun, 51-100.

I did my first PoTD stuff yesterday, was pretty fun. I can only go till 10 though and got a sweet (...) ragged old shirt as a mystery prize.
Also won another 10K on the scratch cards and did some actual chocobo racing (I thought it would be betting). There is so much stuff in this game I had no idea about.

Did PotD yesterday 1-30 floor. The creepy lady is stalking me! It does give quite a bit of exp! One...annoying thing and maybe also an advantage is that while levelling in PotD, I gain abilities that I don't currently have on my actual character, it does take out some excitement out, especially when I'm levelling a new class. On the other hand, I could easily try different jobs quite quickly.

When I start leveling a new class the first thing I do nowadays is going to floor 51 of PotD solo to set up all shortcuts for level 60. Feels good to not have to bother about it again.

Isn't it possible to get a box or something where I can store my items? Other than buying a house or retainers?

You get 2 retainers for free ingame, so you have 175x2 slots there.
Also, in the inn you have the armoire, where you can deposite almost all The items you cannot get again once you have them, like AFs, seasonal event items or achievement items.

So once you beat floor 50 you get access to start at floor 51. Probably a dumb question, but if you choose to start at floor 51 instead, do you start at level 60?

He would kill off every NPC, troll you with cheese side quests to have you ponder how meaningless the world is, force you to fight your loot and destroy it, then make you erase your character. Let's do this.

A shortcut in terms of getting ready for 50-60? There is more than 1 shortcut? :D

When you log in to the Mog Station you should be able to find an emergency removal code, which you'll need to use when the token dies.

How bad is the 260 anima quest? Hoping I can fly through it or do it in between collecting crystal sand and umbrite.

Holy crap this is the first I've heard of this. How do I get the 2nd retainer?

I took vacation this coming week for the sole purpose of playing Zelda.

... Now I have to divide time between Zelda and FFXIV...

Can't believe I didn't know about those easy amber vilekins. I've been gathering > red scrips > blue scrips for anima items like a sucker.

Ok

So I''ve been getting my pre stormblood ducks in a row, starting to get all the stuff I wanted to do at some point done. So i'm not bothered by it when it comes around.

I got a question, when you reach 2nd lieutenant, in a grand company, how do you get the people to do missions for you so you can do the missions to reach 1st lieutenant.

There should be a blue quest there that unlocks squadrons it's weird you haven't seen it yet.

What's the best place to read about the cross class changes?

Also, level 33 - how do I access the casino thing?
They haven't gone into much detail on the cross class changes yet. To get to the Gold Saucer there should be a quest near the main aetheryte in Ul'dah.

So how does the prototype midan gear work? Like, do you run alexander normal and what drops are those shafts and such that you accrue and trade in? Or is there another token to worry about? I'd like at least the aiming chest for glamour in the future.

Just had mine died a few weeks back, bought it back in XI as well. I could tell it was about to die as i had to keep pressing the button very hard to get it to show a number.

As long as you have your profile info (bday address, physical token number (on back of token) ), you can contact SE customer service to have it removed. Be wary though, they aren't open on weekends, so you'll be SOL like i was until Monday. Once Monday rolled around, it literally took me 5 minutes to have it removed from my account.

Nah, that's pretty much it. You run Midas normal, every floor has a set of 3 items and each run drops 4 of them, collect those and trade them in for the specific gear.
