Hah, just had a look for Yella's site. Apprently it went down and now is just a generic porn site. It used to be this:

I don't know about anyone else but Wu Monday turned into Wu Week for me, that's all I've been listening to - Ironman, Supreme Clientele, 36 Chambers, Tical, Apollo Kids, Blackout 2.....

Not the west coast I want. None of those artists make West Coast Hip Hop. They all have their strengths and some make good music, but none of it sounds like that west coast sound that is so badly missed.
Jay Rock sounds pretty damn West Coast to me.

Black Hippy won't be that big( not hating, i like them, but it is what it is.), odd future is probably going to hit their ceiling, in terms of popularity, pretty soon. I see Frank being the only real mainstream guy from them. Lil B? Lol no.
Mellowhype, Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, and the group as a whole have to put out new releases before anyone can even being to think they're approaching the ceiling of popularity.

I think your confusing internet hype with mainstream popularity.

Tyler has gained quite a bit of mainstream popularity when he(and all of Odd Future) were just feeding off of internet hype. I don't see a reason why Mellowhype or a full OFWGKTA release couldn't get them mainstream recognition.

Tyler has gotten some mainstream love, but really, its not even close to what other mainstream rappers enjoy. Frank Ocean will be the most successful member out of Odd Future. Im not saying OFWGKTA is going to fail, they just aren't going to come close to Frank, and a less extent Tyler. Which is sad since Tyler isn't even the best out of the group, rapping wise.

still really sucks that Earl's not around to capitalize on oddfuture's momentum. it'd be cool to see him crossover with shit like DOOM, even if it won't happen.

This is the truth. I went a bit insane with the Wu listening.

Idk if anyone in Cali ever checked out Amoeba music. I lived in the Pasadena area for 13 years, never checked it out. Me and my friends had an LA trip yesterday. Went to Roscoes (delicious), then decided to check Amoeba out. Place is fucking amazing. Had every Hip-Hop album on CD, and plenty of Vinyls.

^ yeah, when i stayed in san fran one summer, i was all over amoeba (rasputin too). i dont collect vinyl, but if i did that shit would be like mecca - great movie posters and mixtapes about, too.
that's where i found this collection of mos def b-sides id been looking for (we are hip-hop - you - me - everybody). mostly just ultra magnetics and guest spots, though. i think they were playing phrenology when i came in, cool place.

This is a great idea...for his old fans. This won't bring him any new/mainstream fans to the table unfortunately.

Only two new tracks. Like A Star is cool but nothing epic. Pity is solid.

Yeah I don't either. Place is great. I didn't have money on me. It reminded me how badly I need a job.

I usually take a trip to Amoeba and Rasputin as soon as I get a big sum of money in my checking...those two places are amazing for finding some rare shit (Especially in the used section).

I thought this was a song lol, it's a mini mixtape.

To add to this, he said he is going to put out new content every Sunday until his album release(pending delay :p). This could be new song, video, or whatever.

Here is what he said on his blog about each track.

1. Like A Star- Was saving this for the 2nd album. Due to some other shit beyond my control, I’ma let this out now.

2. Knock On Wood- One of my fav. freestyles. OG Dreamvillains gotta be reminded, new fans gotta get put on.

3. Pity- Brand new J. Cole, Omen, Voli. Produced by Voli @volitheentity

4. How High- at one point this was guaranteed to go on The Sideline Story.

5. Unabomber- Just heard this today for the first time in a longgg time. Love these raps.

Every Sunday til the album drops I’ll be back with something. Maybe just 1 song, maybe a video, depending on how I’m feeling.

September 27! We almost there. Until then…

Downloading the Cole tape. So it's only 5 songs? As long as it's quality I don't care.

If I am correct, this is the start of his Mixtape that leads up to his album? The cuts that didn't make the album.

the new (old) J. Cole tape sucks.

Pity's dope though so he's at least 1/5. Should put this on the album.

Wish we had a more interesting rapper to rep NC. Little Brother's pretty much the best we got and nobody here listened to them.

IrishNinja

fuck that, dom. i'd trade the entire lineup down here - i'd even give you booty-era Luke, JT money, right up to Trick - for Little Brother.

related: fuck people who haven't heard Little Brother.

They're good, but kind of a boring rap group anyway...The region just seems to breed good, yet boring rappers in general.

I can't really disagree. The whole style of NC basically just dickrides whats hot everywhere else except we're a few months late. Pretty much all the local acts I've heard blow ass. It's pathetic really.

I wish we had a collective coming up Odd Future style where they all just kinda do their own shit and fuck you if you don't like it.

I suppose it cant be helped since were stuck in the vast swathe of flyover country between DC and GA.

overcast & enzo: don't listen to des! here, see what you think:

the listening

nightime maneuvers

i see now (aww) - featuring Ye & Cons

What you do

speed

dom - one time offer! you can have our whole scene for a boring group that doesnt make music anymore anyway. act now, and get DJ Khaled as a special bonus with Trina!

trust me, there's hip-hop down here but i havent liked shit since 2 live crew. being a major city, that stings way more than being a flyover state. i mean, fucking jersey gets Redman. we need a hip-hop draft.

FWIW I'm actually from Virginia birth-wise (Navy baby) but I'd feel like a fake if I claimed it since I only lived there until I was 2. Damn if I don't jam out to it all the same though.

oh and DX your list needs some Pastor Troy and David Banner

Cham will be there.

The midwest is getting its own baby. Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, St. Paul, Cinci, etc.

The south and westside are the toughest for me to do the playlists for.

Ace Hood went in on this dont know shit about dude though

J cole, nas and Drake all on stage together at this concert in toronto, now we just need to see something happen in the studio.

been working more on my group's music then listening to new music lately, so finally made it around to listening to Bad Meets Evil...it's eh so so, but let's be honest there was no way this could have met the potential of a 2000-2003 era Em and Royce collab album

Q: Whats Wu-Mondays and why should I care about it?
A: Wu-Mondays was born out of lack of disciple, if you can believe it. I always had the intent of going trough the Wu-Tang Clan library, but never actually did it. Yeah, I know procrastination is a total b*tch. So why not make a day just to do it? Usually works for other things I set a date for. So its kind of a personal journey, but who knows you might wanna joint it too. Its all up to you I guess, I'm making the journey regardless.
Q: So what are the rules of Wu-Mondays?
A: Every monday we'll talk about 2 or 3 Wu related albums (Question to GAF-Hop: should I encrease this number to 4 or 5?), this means group albums, solo albums of individuel members and some affiliated albums. Discussion is encouraged! Discussions about lyrics, beats, track-by-track reviews etc are welcome, keep it constructive though and don't derail too much. We've already had some intresting debates in week 2, but week 1 got ruined by old man Kampsy. If you missed Wu-Mondays, there is no problem talking about the albums presented today this whole week. Its a Hiphop thread, discussion with fanatics happen daily.
Q: What if I don't have the albums your presenting today?
A: Youtube is your friend and use wiki for tracklisting. You can also use Spotify (Free, with ads, but awesome program). I think I should have all the music presented so far in a Spotify playlist next week.
Q: So who's better: Raekwon or Ghostface?
A: Though one, Ghost has been the one thats been releasing albums on a steady pace but you can't always say they are all classics. Ironman, Supreme Clientele and Fishscale are just straight up bangers, but Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx for me trumps them all. Talk about a controversial opinion, right? Yeah, I know. I rather re-listen to Linx, then go trough Ghost's catalogue. Raekwon's flow beats Ghost, come at me bro.
Q: What did you think about Wu's recently released "group album" Legendary Weapons?
A: That... was it? Straight up garbage. There where some decent verses here and there, but overall it was just a mixtape. I rather act like it was never made or it was some mixtape I downloaded from Dapiff.
Q: Anything else to say to the fam?
A: Soul Creator wants to start a Native Tongue Tuesdays. I SUPPORT THIS AND YOU SHOULD TOO.
