Each year the Game Critics present its Best of E3 Awards. These awards recognize the games that will shape the future of interactive entertainment, as demonstrated via hands-on playable form at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, CA. This year's E3 was held June 14-16, 2016.
The 2016 winners will be announced on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

GamesRadar put that very question to Guerrilla Games co-founder and managing director Hermen Hulst as part of a new interview.

"I guess you're wondering where we are on that spectrum of, on the one side more action-orientated games like Assassin's Creed, and on the other hand you have your Elder Scrolls and these kinds of series," Hulst replied. "I think we're in-between. We have elements in both directions, and that probably puts us somewhere in between."

Assassin's Creed always goes in the Action/Adventure category, while Elder Scrolls is in RPG.

I think it's worth considering that basically every action-adventure game has RPG elements at this point.

Dishonored 2 is full of quests/side-quests and leveling and items and skills and shops and upgrades and you can talk to NPCs in non-violent town areas for information...

Horizon seems like a Zelda game with upgrading mechanics, Deus Ex has choices in how you play the game (lethal, nonlethal), level up your character, and how the story progresses.

Not knocking horizon, but they're clearly two different types of games based on the footage released for both.

I guess they only nominate games that are somehow playable in E3, hence no God of War or Spiderman.

Pretty funny to see all the shooters stuck in the action genre, however, it makes sense if you really think about it.

Gamespot's preview of it says they got hands on time

During a hands-on demo with Nier: Automata, I was immediately reminded of the aforementioned Bayonetta. Combat is fluid, and switching between attacks and weapons is smooth. Playing as the android warrior 2B, I flipped and flitted around my enemies, whipped my sword out mid-air to smack them away before following up with a ranged attack. Everything moved quickly, a dance between enemies, 2B and her AI companion 9S.

They only listed a couple of non-obviously not playable games last year and people had major meltdowns so now they list anything and everything.

As long as it was playable for the press even behind closed doors, then yes it counts. So the press may have been able to play it even if it wasn't on the show floor.

Also lol @ those saying Deus Ex shouldn't be in the RPG category, it's very much an RPG.

Except it wasn't fake, they really did invite community members out and recorded them as they played it and used portions of that for the video. Their reactions and talk was 100% real.

I guess. Dishonored is from the makers of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic though so it makes more sense to me that they had more RPG elements in Dishonored despite it always being an action game. Horizon was a game I always saw being called an RPG far more often than not, so I found the genre it was put in here weird.
