How do people seriously not know about doritos gate? Like were you not here at all this whole month?

Nearly hundred pages of arguing, debate, ridicule, more arguing, etc.

Here's some quotes about Doritosgate from Keighley himself.

You must pursue this investigation of Doritosgate even if it leads to game journalists. I'm innocent. You've got to believe I'm innocent. If you don't, take my job.
-Geoff Keighley

If I talked about Doritosgate, I was described as struggling to free myself from the morass. If I did not talk about Doritosgate, I was accused of being out of touch with reality.
-Geoff Keighley

When a journalist does it, that means it is not wrong.
-Geoff Keighley

Doritosgate had become the center of the gaming media's universe, and during the remaining years of my journalism the community tried to force everything else to revolve around it.

I hope he owns it. Record a brief video, show him walking down the street, wearing his full Dorito-pope vestments and other assorted regalia. As he orders a Mountain Dew from a street vendor, a pale 30 year old dude with a gigantic neck beard accosts him and calls him a sell out. At that point, Dorito-pope puts on his sunglasses and says "Deal With it." Then, steps into his waiting Dorito-mobile, and drives off into the sunset.

Why?

Seriously, Keighley... what the hell?

This has almost blown over, you came out about as well as possible, why reopen it?

I really thought you were doing the smartest thing by just shutting up and letting it blow over, but now you're going to talk about it? Jesus.

He's about that life.

so this whole controversy is about keighley being a corporate shill and how commercialism is seeping heavy into gaming? Have you dudes been asleep for the past 6 years or what??

This whole weird marketing message has been pushed by Microsoft, Best Buy, G4, Spike, and Pepsico since 2006

Pre-release hype for an opinion on games journalism?

What are we doing, guys?

Providing a shitload of free marketing for Doritos and Mountain Dew, the true winners in all of this. As long as it's entertaining and nobody on GAF is being paid to crack jokes, who cares?

It kind of went overboard with the whole Doritos/Mountain dew/Halo 4/Geoff thing.

Well, it was originally about that and then it somehow became about the British gaming press, libel laws, and how the fuck does someone named "Robert" get away with calling himself "Rab"?

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
He's a paid gaming consultant by pepsico, has been for years. I wonder if this cost him that gig though?

I still don't quite get what he's done wrong?
Nothing. A game jounalist tried to be high-and-mighty and made a glorified complaint about videogame marketing, implying others of being shills (Geoff included). Then he caused a Twitter war on some inconsequential industry insider.

I hope these non-shill gamers never talk about Halo 4 or Tomb Raider ever. No need to be tobias.

Nothing, he didn't do anything wrong, he shilled some MS Halo gamerfuel dorito bullshit, but that's his job. Games journalism is just his hobby, his job is being the Ryan Seacrest of video games.

He really shouldn't even say anything, no matter what he says people are going to turn it back on him.

I find the whole thing hilarious, but I'm starting to feel bad for the guy to an extent because this seems to keep coming back up over and over. I'm sure his boss was probably like Geoff get out on stage or whatever and say these lines for the Pepsi company. It's like I mean what else is he suppose to do? No boss... I refuse to do this? I mean truthfully if I was in the same situation I wouldn't probably refuse to do it in this job economy, but yeah I would feel my soul die a little inside.

Unless I'm just completely wrong in the whole situation and he has the power to make all of these calls.

He deals in nerd culture, who else does he answer to that's more noble and worthy?

Also awesome superiority complex.

How so? The only people that got their neck beard in a bunch ARE forum nerds. And really, who gives a shit about them? Anybody here or on other forums would do what Geoff does in a heartbeat for money.

Thanks, I thought as much.

What does he have to explain? Sports analyst need advertising, movie reviewers need advertising, radio personalities need advertising. He is nothing more than a TV personality that deals with game based entertainment.

Why should he have to explain? I'm pretty sure he wasn't the one making the decision to advertise that. In the end, everything he does is considered shilling - THAT'S HIS JOB.

You know those tweets hinting about secret Playstation games? Yes, that's a paid ad too.
