GFW Radio Reunion @ PAX 2009

Watched the whole thing and loved seeing everyone back together(minus Darren and Anthony)
It was another great show and a great reunion,Hopefully this is annually done because the gaming media is really missing you.

Thanks for all the shows guys,Helping me get through the boring days at work for years.

I really can't bring myself to watch most of the audience questions. It was great to see those guys shooting the shit for just over an hour, though.

Probably worth listening for a couple of really great one liners. Robert commenting on where the real fans are and Shawn noting wajah. And there are still tangents during the question part.

thanks to everyone involved in making this happen. im having a horrible day - my cat of 20 years finally passed last night - but im smiling ear to ear as i watch this. brings back great memories.

Part 1 so far is killing me. Good to see that the group can still be more entertaining and informative than most podcasts today.

Wow no mention of Darren Gladstone. They must really not like him...
I don't think its that, its just during the last few months of him being on the show he didn't seem to contribute much, he might just not have had the right stuff for podcasting, who knows?

Darren was mentioned in regards to the crazy PR guy who wanted to kill Ryan.

Also, Jazz English's "question" makes even less sense in retrospect. What the fuck was that about?

Fantastic show. :D

A shame that Sean didn't get to talk as much as I wanted him to though. He seemed a little nervous.

Please tell me someone asked Sean how he's enjoying life at Blizzard after being such a avid WoW fan for so long. Too many questions directed at Jeff/Robert/Shawn.

Sean was not able to speak as a Blizzard employee in this context so even if someone had asked the question it wouldn't have worked.

There's still Out of the Game too, which at least I find to be one of my favourite podcasts. It does take a slightly more serious route and isn't as much about games, but it's a good show. So yeah, for people who liked GFW -- you might want to check it out.

Well that makes sense.

I just finished all 3 segments. Half way through I noticed that I had this big smile on my face while I was watching. Its good to have you guys back all together. It seemed like you guys became pretty comfortable by the 2/3 segments, heck even Sean was cracking jokes in the 3rd segment. I think doing the Heroes of the Web sketch early really helped break the ice.

Wonderful show. The Brodeo was the best podcast around, and this reunion just confirms it. Out of the Game is good, but sitting face to face really adds a lot.

True. At first it was a bit shaky with, you know, people cutting each other off and such. But I think it's gotten much better in that regard.

Thanks. Using that as an icebreaker was our intention. How do we not feel at ease after reading that?

Just noticed a slight "jump" between Part 2 and Part 3. This might have been when David needed to load another tape into the camera. I was using the camera case as an armrest at the time so he couldn't get to the tape fast enough. (Apologies, David!)

I almost choked on my drink listening to this. The Axe body spray got me. I miss this podcast so much.

I agree totally. Almost all podcasts today forget to be entertaining. The brodeo showed that you can be smart and informative and yet have a good time and entertain the audience. That is why this show was loved by all.

Podcasts out there now are just so damn boring. Talk about game x in stupid detail from top to bottom, move on to news, then reader email..rinse and repeat week after painful week.

Add some personality into your podcasts and you can be the next brodeo. Right now I'd say the closest thing to it is the fanboys podcast. Other than that most podcasts are about exactly the same, talking the same games, same news, same boring shit.

Take Giantbomb, Joystiq, 1up, At1up, and countless other ones and you will see what I'm talking about.

strem, I hope you listen to Out of the Game!

Yeah I do listen to Out of the Game Firestorm. It is one of my favs for sure and forgot to mention it in my post. Only negative things I would say about Out of the Game is N'gai needs to reign it in sometimes, dude can talk about a subject forever (but I do like N'gai) and last and something I thought I would never say is I think Luke needs to fall on the sword and remove himself from the show. He was great on 1up yours and Legendary Thread but on this cast he is terribad. Adds nothing to it and you can see the other guys trying to get him involved. Seems to adds strain to the show

Ah, the memories.
Any word on when those Brodeo posters Jeff tweeted about are going to be made available online?
Edit: Truant, yeah OotG is good, specifically because it doesn't try to emulate the old GFW. Different, but it's got its own appeal.

Is Out of the Game any good?

I haven't listened to it in fear of tarnishing the memories.

Its a really good podcast. Its not all about games but gaming is included. Mostly its a great lineup with great podcasters. Anytime you get Elliott, Green, N'gai, sometimes Ashley on the same cast you know it will be good. I highly recommend it to anyone

My fears are that it's the more serious part of GFW that I feel sometimes were a little pretentious, especially whenever N'Gai was on. I liked the light-hearted feel of the usual crew.

I feel ya Truant. The old GFW crew is dead and we must move on. Ootg is just plain different than GFW. Just give it a shot and you may be surprised. Shawn and Jeff can turn water into wine

I was just doing some research on GFW Magazine for a piece, and this bit made me laugh.

The cover of the premiere issue of GFW was considered an homage to the cover of the first issue of CGW, with the prominence of a dragon on both covers.

Wikipedia's dead pan delivery makes everything funny.

The PAX posters featuring the Cudgel of Xanthor should be made available somewhere online. Soon, I hope. No firm announcement at this point, but when details are finalized we'll get the word out.

Great show obviously, I was crackin' pretty much the entire show. It was nice seeing Malloy again, he always cracked me up with his subtle humor on GFW.

Shawn could you please please do Hero of the Web on Out of the Game? I miss it so much.

I guess since Darren works the tech beat and not the game beat, he didn't really have a reason to go to PAX. Too bad.

Anyway, looking forward to the Geekbox feed, whenever that goes up.

Thanks man. All the work you've done to get this together is much appreciated.

This! I'd love to watch the guys talk, but those are some long movies. Better served as an .MP3 to listen on the iPod.

Firestorm, you were there and didn't introduce yourself?!
I asked the "How did it go down at Ziff" question =P I didn't really see much time to introduce myself. You were all quite busy up there doing some podcast thing, and I didn't really think any of you would remember my GAF name anyway. Actually, the only two people I think I said "I'm Firestorm on GAF" were Jeff at the MySims Agent booth when I asked him if they patched in Hispanics yet and Jackson near the Scribblenauts booth which I never played because the mob was so huge.

After the podcast I was so damn hungry (stupid people entering that Q&A line later and later every time x.x) I needed food. Before the podcast there was another panel I thought would be interesting so I had to skip dinner. Bad move. Boring panel which I left early to line up for this.

As an aside, downtown Seattle closes its food places too early. My friends ate without me because I was so late so I tried to grab some fast food :( I wandered around, found some PAXers with a McDonalds cup, followed their directions, jackass at Mickey Ds closes the door on me (10:55, closes at 11). Fuck you Seattle McDonalds. Fuck you. The same thing happened to me the night I arrived, but with Subway. 11:55, closes at 12:00, wouldn't let anyone in.

It's at it's best when Robert is actually on the show.

Needed more Diaper Porn.

The developer commentary definitely put things in perspective especially on GAF the KING of the nitpickers. NOT 60 FPS WILL NOT BUY. Must make developers want to put someone's head into their screen.

Heh I was the big guy who asked about the worst game ever they touched, and if they were coming back. As a tip next time check out the taphouse grill down the street. They are open till like 1 AM I think? Maybe even 2.
