Gundam Breaker 2 is a third person mech combat action game, where the player fights other enemy mobile suits in mission based stages. Upon defeating enemy mobile suits there is the chance that parts or resources will be dropped which allows the player to customize their mobile suit body parts or create new weapons / equipment. The farther the player advances in the story the better parts can be obtained from drops during the mission or from the mission rewards.

PS3 Controls (Dont have one for Vita controls, but just look at this and the controls for the most part are the same. Cept for some things being switched over to touch controls. Such as the lock on / shooting modes are touch. Same with Awaken Mode. Also on the stats / coloring etc screens you need to switch through different windows by tapping on them.

I might have missed this reading the OT, but it might be worth mentioning that future DLC is free, at least as of all of the recent trailers.

They'll be releasing missions as free DLC, and those missions will allow players to unlock new parts and mobile suits.

Apparently one of the complaints from the first game was the paid DLC (it even shows up in the main trailer with that one bit that has all the fan requests in it).

Updated DLC Mission Mobile Suits

Infinity Justice Gundam
Gundam Double X

#0:
Q: Do I need a Japanese PSN account to play this game?
A: I would suggest using a JPSN account main reason being is currently we are unsure how the DLC will work, if pushed out via updates or through the JPSN itself. But things like product codes have to be registered through the JPSN. Also this title seems to authenticate itself with the Gundam Perfect Games servers and there is a disclaimer if the title is unable to connect to the servers, the player will not have access to certain features which from what it sounds like includes the free downloadable missions which will start to release next year January. Title updates can be received without a JPSN account as title updates are separate from PSN regioning.

For those with the attention span of a goldfish why you might want JPSN for the game.
 • If you want to buy the Digital Version
 • Product Codes
 • Downloadable Content (free & paid)

#1:
Q: Is this getting localized?
A:
Jokes aside its hard to tell really. Since Gundam Build Fighters the first and now airing second season are highly popular in the West, there perhaps is a chance for this title. But then again I would not be too optimistic with BanNams general stance on localizing Gundam games.

#2:
Q: Is this game any good?
A:
uF89bAQ.gif

From what I have played so far, with technical issues aside it seems like Ill be getting many hours of enjoyment from this title. Even more so with how many mobile suits are in this title, plus how the customization possibilities look far more varied than the previous title.

#3:
Q: Should I import this game?
A: If you like Gundam and Gunpla, sure! Combat is pretty simple and controls are not overly complex. The customization system has greatly improved over the original Gundam Breaker which was quite lacking in several areas. But it seems that this game has been greatly improved.

#4:
Q: Do I need to play the first game before this one?
A: Nope, no connection between the two stories or returning characters it seems. So import away, sides the real reason why we are playing the games in this series is to make insanely stupid or cool Mobile Suits from the parts of our fallen foes lol.

#5:
Q: Is it possible to play this game without knowing Japanese?
A: For the most part yes folks without Japanese knowledge should not have too much trouble. Since it's not like there really is that much stuff in the game which would require one to read. Smash shit up, collect parts, improve your Mobile Suit. Fairly straight forward.

#6:
Q: If I am not familiar with the Gundam Universe would I still enjoy this game?
A: That is a hard question, since the reason why people would buy this game is because they know a particular series or Mobile Suit that appears in the title and making them want to obtain and use it. Unfortunately there is no demo to check out to see if you like the gameplay style.

#7:
Q: What would you compare this game to?
A: Phantasy Star Online type of action gameplay with Mobile Suits. Since its basically doing a lot of runs on maps to gather new gear for your character and can be played with friends. The only levels gained in this game is your "builder level" which the higher it is, allows for you to use better parts. Its just a very simple comparison, so do not exactly expect the same type of gameplay as Phantasy Star Online, but basic principals of the design exist.

Q: Does the game support cross-play

A: For now it does not. We are currently unsure if it will be supported in the future. And no official word from BanNam yet.

#2
Q: Does the PS3 version support remote play?

A: No it does not. Have tested this myself. Error message comes up saying game is not supported basically.

#3
Q: Are there any units I will miss by not having pre-orderedthe game? Such as the Try Fight Builders team MSes?

A: Nope, the game is designed so that players will be able to obtain all the MSes in game.

IN GAME MENU
 1. Assemble - This is where you put together you Mobile Suit and equip all weapons, option parts, modules, etc
 2. Scratch - This basically is your upgrade section for exisiting parts / weapons and where you upgrade the abilities once you start to collect the various chips for weapon mastery or abilities. Higher level you make your parts the higher lv the various stats go but also raises the cost of the part itself.
 3. Weapon Build - This is where you make new weapons from parts / materials collected. Some weapons may not be listed here due to they have to be created via Scratch Build. As this game think of things on an upgrade tech tree so to speak. You start out from a base piece then from there it may branch off into becoming a different part / weapon.
 4. Paint - This is where you can edit the color and details of your mobile suit. You will get more features unlocked as you progress in the game. Changing the menus is done by tapping on the menu section on the Vita and the L3 / R3 buttons for the PS3 (i think)
 5. Unit Name - This is where you name your unit. I hope I do not have to explain further than this. Generally important for those who plan on making / saving various builds.
 6. Photograph - This is where you select the pose and camera angle for your MS. And the selected pose becomes what you see here on the Menu Screen.
 7. Build Breaker Rank - This is the rank that determins what parts / weapons you will be able to use. Higher the BBR is the better parts you can use. Levels up from gaining more parts, Scratch / Weapon building.
 8. Credits - Currency used in game called GP.
 9. Load Schematics - For loading saved data of a saved MS build.
 10. Save Schematics - Save MS build data.
 11. Switch Display - Basically hides the menu I think... Never used it yet.
 12. Scramble Ready - Tells you if you are able to use the current MS configuration in game. If you go over the maximum point cost of the unit you will be unable to deploy. Also if you go over the maximum number of module slots.

OPTIONS MENU
Putting this first for the options since its the most IMPORTANT for those who have both the PS3 / PSV versions. Deals with the cross save function.
 1. Upload - Uploads your current save data to your PSN account.
 2. Download - Downloads the Uploaded data from the PSN account to the PS3 / PSV.

 1. Event Skip - Will skip any previous cleared stage events. Useful for multiple runs on the same stage. This also includes the ACE unit(s) boxes dropping out of the sky.
 2. Voice Chat - Enables / Disables voice chat. Never used this myself so no idea on the functionality besides that.
 3. Brightness - Adjusts game brightness.

 1. Horizontal Camera Controls - Option to set horizontal cameral controls to Normal or Reverse
 2. Vertical Camera Controls - Set Vertical Camera Controls to Normal or Reverse
 3. Camera Sensitivity - Speed controls for moving the camera around during normal play.
 4. Aiming Sensitivity - Controls the sensitivity for when in Aimed Mode that certain weapons use.
 5. Vibration - Option for PS3 version DS3 vibration functionality.

 1. Voice - Adjust the volume of character voices in game.
 2. Movie - Adjust the sound level for movie scenes.

For you guys that need help reading the menu, here's a quick and dirty one I did using my LGP.

I'm kinda debating on whether to get this or not. I enjoyed the looting and customizing of the (demo) of the first one, but the actual fighting and whatnot was kinda crummy :/

Also I haven't replaced my PS3 yet, but that's irrelevant :p

Subscribe! Great OT as always Parakeetman =). Hopefully I will get to play this before the end of the year. Too bad that the texture quality got worse on the sequel, the first game was such a beauty. Does it improve when you playing it on vita smaller screen? How are the drop rate and the upgrade/development mechanic? Since I remember in the first game that if you want rarer parts/better star rating drop, you either have to be incredibly lucky or play online with other ppl.

I'd add Nin-Nin as another good retailer option to get this game. Prices for the game and shipping are definitely as reasonable as nippon-yasan.

So is this essentially an arena Armored Core/Frame Gride at this point?

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I decided to give this a shot and ordered it last night, despite not being very thrilled with the demo for the first game. Looks like it's got enough improvements over the original to make it worth trying.

Nice OT.
Few things:
For everyone worried after playing the demo of the first game, remember that the series have went through 4 phases with "we're listening to you" big updates in between:
Demo -> Full version -> Vita version release (PS3 got a huge patch too) -> Gundam Breaker 2.
Each update improved the gameplay and GB1 after the last big patch was miles better than the demo and GB2 was improved even further from what I've played during the TGS.

@Parakeetman
Oh, you got the game already? Nice. Furage or did the digital version had a midnight release?
Too bad to hear that the Vita version doesn't look great and still has performance problems. I'm even happier that I went with the PS3 version now, especially since it has cross play (it does, right?).
Are you planning to make a PSN ID category in the OT so that we could all play together online? :)
And regarding that MS listing in the OP. I know that it's taken from the official site, but what's weird is that they only listed Astray Red Frame, but during one of the gameplay videos posted recently someone was playing as Red Frame Kai (which is a different gunpla), so I guess they have both.

What, it has cross play? Thought it was only cross save

My copy is on the way from AmiAmi, can't wait to waste a bunch of time over break playing this.

I just want another Gundam True Oddyssey rpg :(

Online play with the first GB reminded me a lot of old school Dreamcast Phantasy Star Online.

We need PSN names so we can play together online. A lot of the higher level missions in the first game were pretty much impossible unless you played online.

I'm pretty sure that GB1 had cross play.

It was added in with the PS3 update that added all the new Vita Gunpla and features.

Roommate is getting me the PS3 version, so I'm excited to join you guys in Gunpla Battle~
Hell, I might pick up a Vita TV or a Vita for this tomorrow. It's like, $60 to import it, right?

yeah i think there are more units than the ones listed.

need to make a google doc for those with psn ids was out of time last night.

i had just gotten the title slightly early which was cool.

the crossplay stuff on site it says "未対応" which has me guessing that it will be patched in later?

Since I remember in the first game that if you want rarer parts/better star rating drop, you either have to be incredibly lucky or play online with other ppl.

Thanks!

The drop rates seem to be slightly less than before, but will need to progress more to see how it works.

Since the system with how the drops work feel like its changed a little.

I have not played yet on the vita itself, since went straight to PSV TV to record stuff for you guys.

Roommate is getting me the PS3 version, so I'm excited to join you guys in Gunpla Battle~
Hell, I might pick up a Vita TV or a Vita for this tomorrow. It's like, $60 to import it, right?

Vita TVs in the US should be fairly cheap or cheaper than a JP version anyways. The game itself might be 60$. But not sure what the exchange rate is currently.

Amiami seems to be sold out of the vita ver currently.

Oh snap, you're right, I totally missed that part in Specs. That sucks... Is it their way of making people buy the omochidashi pack? :|

Not sure actually had not been following the dev blog to see what was going on with that. D: at least we know that they will be supporting the title though and gave us a pretty strong line up at start. So gives people a chance to work their way into the title and level up a bit.

Since its funny I cant use the build fighters try parts yet since am too low lv lol.

oh yeah feel free to start up a google doc or something, unable to do that currently and will link it in the OT later in the evening!

-----

for those wondering about what the ps3 ver will look like ill get footage up tonight.

We need PSN names so we can play together online. A lot of the higher level missions in the first game were pretty much impossible unless you played online.

It was added in with the PS3 update that added all the new Vita Gunpla and features.

yeah will have to get a list / section in the OT up later tonight.

Shit. lol Well, I guess I'll get me a Vita TV then and get other stuff while I wait.
So glad my roommate preordered the PS3 version. >.>
Also, rad OP, dude. Great stuff that answered all my "is that MS in?" questions. lol

I just want another Gundam True Oddyssey rpg :(

So is this essentially an arena Armored Core/Frame Gride at this point?

Yeah I suppose you could put it that way about being like Armored Core in the sense of being able to customize your unit. Though general parts can be bought through model kits that exist, but others have to be obtained by drops from enemies.

Then there is the build lv feature which prevents you from using certain parts / equipment till you are a specific lv.

That MS list isn't complete, actually.

Yeah since the HP says over 100 units and the HP only has like 98 or something. Im surprised that the Banshee isnt in the list, but am sure its there as a boss.

game also has a day 1 467 mb patch adding in some fixes and support for download missions

Pretty rad. I'll be going Vita, myself.

I'm still torn between the Vita and PS3 version. Is there remote play for the PS3 one?

lol that hiro gif is basically the staple for gundam games when it comes to localization questions (°▽°) really wanted to make some stuff from the build fighters anime but work schedule said "LOL NO"　(´д｀|||)

am not sure ill check in the evening for you!

distantmantra great list will go with that for the ot tonight and will add you to the credits also along with ryouga

Damn, so that mean that I really need jp acc to get the DLC missions...

at least its not an online pass sorta deal am glad dev / pubs in general got rid of that stupid practice. though yeah can see how trophy hunters would not be too happy, but one of the risks when we run import games lol

pretty easy from the get go but no idea how it will be in later stages

So like the first game?

Did you find it easier from the get go? I'm about at level 40 something, in the later parts, but damn I wanna import my "monster" of a mech.

Also, is this going up on the HK store? Lord let it be true, for the price will be much fucking lower.

I have heard that they improve the parts obtain system?
I loved GB1 but found the parts system really annoying, after each mission I have to dig through tons of garbage for one or two useful upgrades. I wish they streamline it a little... like, just disregard the same parts I have with lower grades automatically. Or let me use money to upgrade that MS-06 head I love so much.

Oh shit I didn't expect to have OT here, very nice work.
It's sad GB2 doesn't have cross-play like GB1 had, but Bamco explained the reason for it and I could understand it so I'm okay with that.

Yeah you right, thought my main problem is more of the hassle with memory cards, I only have two cards, each dedicated to Zone 1 and Zone 3, none for zone 2. I was a bit lucky since all Jpn game I imported did not have online pass or DLC. Either I need a new card or just ignore the DLC (which have stargazer and infinite justice..), oh how I wish Vita have mutiple acc function.

Edit: The main website just updated about the release date for the DLC missions, if my really limited Japanese is correct, the first three will be release next month.

no idea really since i dont pay attention to asia related news at all but with the fact that bannam is supportive of the asia market one can imagine it would come out. did the previous game come out in asia?

It is, and the Asian have two versions, Chinese and Japanese. Though I believe Jap version is digital only, while Chinese have both retail and digital/

looked at their official twitter nothing there. lots of pissed off worried fans tweeting about the 未対応 though.

I've forgotten where they stated it, but for this time some movement sets (I'm assuming coordinates for motions, not motions themselves) differ between PS3 and Vita.
