The only rights Sony has are the movies. Marvel and Disney own everything else.
 
Literally the definition of system seller. I know people have never owned a playstation system and will buy a PS4 for just this game.
 
Quite a few people I know are buying their kids a PS4 simply for this game (also for themselves, but ya know.. for the kids). This has potential to be a huge system seller

Sony actually had the merchandising rights to Spider-man for a while, not just movies. In hindsight, Sony regretted doing it considering how much the Spider-man IP was worth not just the films, but they didn't really think ahead and were strapped for cash last generation when their electronics divisions were struggling; so off to Marvel it was sold back.

Think about all the money Disney/Marvel has made with the merchandising rights with Spider-man.... Sony must be really kicking themselves in the pants, lol.

Marvel paid a pittance for a prince.

Yeah, I think it is the kind of game that attracts a whole new audience to the console.

In that sense it is going to be bigger than God of War and even The Last of Us Part II, which probably have already most of their player base on PS4.

It'll be close, but there's little chance of it hitting 10 million - I'm predicting 6-9 million, depending on reception. Arkham Knight only sold 6m, and that was over 3 platforms.
 
As long as they make the web slinging fun they've got a hit.

But year barring terrible reviews I see this game selling very well.

Sony didnÂ’t/doesnÂ’t deserve Spider-Man, theyÂ’ve straight up disrespected the IP up until this year with Homecoming. Spidey belongs with Marvel.

It's the fact we have literally never had a truly great Spiderman game. Some would say not even a good one in the modern age. And the old games are shit no matter how much people like the swinging or whatever they remember of it.

Honestly, Insomniac is not going to fuck this up. It's going to be great.

I don't see this happening until 2018 fall though. I hope they are ready by then, their engine should be amazing by now.

They made four great Spidey films, two of which I'd argue are two of the best superhero movies ever made.

Four? No. Absolutely not. Two at best, both by Raimi. I wonÂ’t deny Spider-Man 2 and itÂ’s greatness and Spidey 1 is a cheesy yet endearing film. 3? Garbage. ASM 1&2? Garbage. Homecoming? DoesnÂ’t count, Marvel made that, Sony fronted cash.
 
Insomniac has come a long way, they deserve this hit. I miss Insomniac threads, the old Resistance days, and seeing Jstevenson a lot.

I don't know if Destiny 2 is a good replacement and step up from Resistance 2 co-op but because of R2 I considered getting D2. I doubt they have Soldier tanks, Spec-ops ammo refiller, and medic like classes though.

I hope this doesn't lock Insomnaic into Spider-man, but even if it does, at least they'll have a huge IP to continually work on, and such a massively popular one at that.

Homecoming is colaborative effort from both Sony and Marvel. Supposedly, Sony is the one who want Tom Holland as Peter Parker. So they deserve some credit for Homecoming.
 
I don't like Spider-Man or Marvel in general...

But I'm hyped AF for this game. 2017 is holding my wallet down while 2018 is gonna kick the shit out of it.

Wait, I don't understand. There was Spider-Man toys and stuff that existed last generation. Was that not Sony? How does video games play into it if they weren't exclusive?
 
Yeah this will be huge for Sony/Insomniac/Marvel. I wonder when it will come out? Maybe like a April/May/Early June release? With God of War in February or March perhaps?

I agree 10 million isn't a sure thing, but I think it has more potential to hit that number than just about any other first party Sony title this generation.

It is supposedly coming first half of the year.

My guess for Sony's releases calendar for the first half of 2018 is God of War in March, Shadow of the Colossus Remake in April and Spiderman in June.

I do think there is a chance Spiderman is delayed into the Holidays though.

Swap SOTC with Spider-Man. No reason for this game not to be out with Infinity War. Push SOTC into July and give Spider-Man late April/early May. TheyÂ’d be stupid not to.

I dont think the game will be ready by April though.

I have this feeling that it is not super late in development like God of War for example. I would hate for it to be have a rushed development to launch it earlier too.

But Insomniac is really good at meeting deadlines and they are really smooth at developing games so who knows...

If they dont give it a release date on PSX, forget about it imo.
 
This is one of those games that is going to sell huge regadless of quality.

But it they can actually make it good too, it will be massive!

They have had great success but no studio is more deserving of going absolutely gangbusters. Say's a lot about Sony's relationship with them that they are letting them helm the franchise and didn't keep it internal.

Yep, if it doesn't have a date at PSX, that is a wrap. As you said though, Insomniac is pretty efficient so I have faith in them.
