Just as earlier rumors hinted, HP is starting to announce its 2014 line-up of Android tablets. The first of the batch to go official in the US is the HP 7 Plus tablet, which HP has priced at just $99.99.

The tablet is available in the US and it seems to offer some good hardware for the price. The most notable is a Cortex A7 1.3GHz quad-core CPU on an Allwinner Technology SoC. It comes along with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (extendable via a microSD card slot).

The display is a 7″ IPS LCD with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. While that doesn’t result in a breathtaking pixel density (it’s just 169ppi), the slate comes with the not-too-old Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and a 2800 mAh Li-Po battery that provides up to 5 hours and 30 minutes of battery life.

There are also a couple of cameras. A 0.3 MP fixed focus front-facing one as well as a 2MP fixed focus at the back. The HP 7 Plus weighs 294 grams.

Hopefully this will encourage other major brands to start investing in <$200 range tablets.

Not a bad tablet if it wasn't for that resolution. I don't think I could recommend anything lower than 1280x720 for a tablet these days.

HP's Android-tablets are basically identical to those cheap Android-tablets produced by Chinese manufacturers, except with an HP logo on the back. HP's Android stuff is pretty uninteresting. The price is cheap, at least, but you can get nearly identical white-label tablets for even less than this.

Don't care about resolution but that processor is way weaker than the Vita....this should cost around sixty bucks

Probably a good enough device for 90% of tablet users.

Worst part seems to be the battery.

Powerful enough to browse the internet.

Well, it's low, lower than first nexus 7. Just save up a bit and buy a nexus 7.
The SoC is also pretty shit, 1GB RAM is a dead end soon...

1 GB is the magic number for Android. 512MB can be a pain in the ass, 1GB on the other hand... under normal usage you won't have problems.

Is this good? I have no tablet. How is that resolution in 1080p terms?

cheap products can be tempting but with a little bit more you can get something so much better.

Pretty amazing how decent cheap tablets are these days. The resolution is a killer, but the chipset and RAM are both more than adequate. Could be great for schools and definitely getting to a price that will work in developing countries.
