The primary purpose of the legislation was to remove the names of county clerks from marriage licenses, a response to the controversy surrounding Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

"Quite frankly, it's almost disrespectful to the traditional family," said Republican state Sen. John Schickel of Union. "That's' why, wisely, we decided to have two forms. That has nothing to do with bigotry, nothing to do with discrimination. It has to do with the vast majority of Kentuckians that respect traditional marriage."

Democratic Sen. Morgan McGarvey of Louisville tried to amend the bill to create one form, where a person would have the option to check "bride," ''groom" or "spouse" beside their name. He said having one form would be cheaper and more efficient, and it would treat everyone fairly. It failed

The American Civil Liberties Union, which brought the lawsuit against Davis, said in a news release the Senate was "setting a dangerous slippery slope precedent by catering to one specific religious belief and privileging that over others."

"Separate forms for gay and lesbian Kentuckians constitute unequal treatment under the law," said Michael Aldridge, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky. "Pure and simple, this bill is motivated by the desire to accommodate discrimination against same-sex couples."

So bigotry and discrimination. I hate this state some times.

Has nothing to do with bigotry, we just want to accomodate the bigoted people who work for our government more than we want to treat humans as equals before the law.

If it's "almost" disrespectful to "traditional families" don't do bullshit that is disrespectful to "non-traditional" families.

That's awfully petty. I'm sure the alternate forms are on a lesser weight paper too just to stick it to the LGBT community.

Some people think that this battle ended but this is probably going to be something I'll be facing (as well as other LGBT) for the rest of my life. Very sad but not shocked to hear about something like this.

Fuck. Me.

There is no hope until this sorry lot is dead and buried.

traditional families shouldn't give a shit about another person's license. It in no way invalidates their own marriage. You're married. Be happy. Love your SO. Some of these people must have some rocky relationships hanging on by just a thread if they think THIS is what will do them in.

"Quite frankly, it's almost disrespectful to the traditional family,"

Quite frankly, you are most definitely a disgrace to humanity.

This goes to a court and it will fail so hard.

How petty. I don't know why they care so much about this. They need to move on with their lives. This amount of dedication to something that doesn't affect them is unhealthy. If they want to be good Christians, then they should spend that time praying to the lord or volunteering.

Guys, guys...I can explain. It's not bigotry to require blacks to use a separate drinking fountain as long as they're still getting to use a drinking fountain am I right?

It's equal treatment! Separate, but equal treatment!

Where is Kentucky again?

*looks at map*

.....FUCK, we can't cut it out.

We can either push it down into the Earth, or try to lift it out.

force push the doodoo rock
You know when before they even talk about what the fuck their doing they have to throw out a statement about how its not bigotry shits gonna be fucked up

Like there's not racist homophobes that live in your neighborhood.

It's a joke, about physically cutting off states when their officials/people do shitty things. I'm not honestly saying we should throw Kentucky out of the union.

Though to be honest, while there are no doubt racist homophobes in my state, my elected officials are not creating separate marriage licenses to "protect the traditional family'' or some nonsense.

Won't someone please think of the Traditional Family? For too long, straight people have been marginalized by uppity homos who have the gall to demand equal rights. It's time to take our nation and our future back from these... people. Don't call us bigots tho.
