Wait, those aren't WIP shots? Well then, that's a really odd style. Not sure I could stomach it for very long.

I thought those are objects that they can also place in other houses etc than just there. Stuff on the wall are pixelly too.

And yeah I also don't think it looks bad.
Yeah but the leaves are HD. This is definitely an intentional look they're going for. And as jiji pointed out, the sprites that remain are not even identical to the originals. They're redoing the assets, but in a pixelated style.

I think it looks less odd in motion in the videos.

Do not forget allot of these small inconsistencies will be fixed in the final game and if you give your remarks to WM I am sure they will be more then happy to listen.

The Goal is to have only have backgrounds in HD and sprites as sprites.. I think it can look quite cool especially animated : )

Also I am sure some of the backgrounds will have animations as well : )

I don't really like the mix of styles. I'd rather all or nothing. Especially at $140k. Some bits like the character portraits go from charming to low level deviantart anime art in the transition.

Hopefully the healing system and accompanying slowdowns get fixed if it gets through. Shame the guidebook seems to be limited and is only included in the >=125$ packages.

It's gonna take a lot more than new graphics to save this game. Ugh.

Because those are noticeably harder platforms to target than PC/X360/Mac/Linux/Xbox. Plus, you need actual contracts with Nintendo or Sony to release on the 3DS/Vita/PS3 whereas all of the platforms that they are targeting have a self-publishing option.

When they say that the X360 version will have achievements, I imagine they're assuming that their game is good enough that they'll be able to convince Microsoft to give them an actual XBLA release and not that they actually have an agreement with Microsoft yet.

Yeah, that's definitely the case here. If you're pledging money with the assumption that these dudes know what they're doing you're gonna get burned.

According to a post by the devs, they will release an update concerning the ability to play the game with it's original 'sd' graphics. Which would make this even more fantastic!

Already pledged 125 usd for the Dreamcast CE. Really hoping they hit their goals ...

Would bite on the dreamcast version. Do they give you a code for the hd version on a different platform in addition since the dreamcast one obviously isnt hd?

I'm not the only one who thinks the original art is superior, right?

Reminds me of Langrisser on the left.

Well, it sounds like they're probably going to offer an SD mode for anybody who doesn't like the HD mode. So kick in. (._. )

I guess it would be fair to assume the Dreamcast version soundtrack would be the same as the current CD version?

Was going around between the Dreamcast and the PC version. Then I saw the PC collector will be limited at 250. Settled the deal for me.

Eh, i'll be more impressed if Watermelon goes back and fix the game's problems (which would require extensive reworking) for this update.

So for everybody who was worried about it, worry no further.

Wow, 57,000 in 2 days...we are really humbled by everyone's support. We can't express how excited we are and how much we are looking forward to bringing you guys Pier Solar HD!

We've got a surprise for everyone to celebrate!

We wanted to keep this easter egg a secret till a little later... but since there have been so many questions about it, we decided to announce this for everyone right now!

The original SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis graphics of Pier Solar HD will be playable on every single platform, XBOX360, PC, Mac, Linux, and Sega Dreamcast.

It will be unlock-able by finding a special in game item, a "Pier Solar Mega Drive Cartridge" that is hidden somewhere in the very beginning of the game...

Once you fin d this, it will unlock the entire version of Pier Solar for the SEGA Mega Drive & SEGA Genesis!

I've always wondered why they didn't make a version for Xbox live in the first place.

Looks like my wish has been granted :)

So, I don't get it. What's the point of having partly HD artwork and then having 16-bit sprites in front of them? It looks absolutely hideous that way.

Out of curiosity, what's wrong with it?

I haven't actually played it in over a year so my memory's a little fuzzy on the details but there's basically no way to customise/specialise your party in any meaningful way and it takes for-fucking-ever to level up. There's not a lot of enemy variety or encounter configurations, either, plus lots of palette-swaps. I seem to recall a lot of the "puzzles" being of the "hide crap behind the background layers so you can't see it", too, which was really lame. There was also a weird saving quirk that I can't remember exactly--you could save anywhere but it wouldn't actually register until the next time you entered a new area, so if you didn't know beforehand you could end up losing a lot of progress.

I respect what a technical accomplishment the game is and I'm glad they actually managed to finish it after all these years but I didn't really enjoy playing it.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!

Opinions. To some people it looks pretty nice outside certain issues mentioned (ie, the plant being half HD half pixel art, which could be because it's unfinished).

Damn, I missed the genesis version. Is it possible to get that?

Guess I could throw 15$ for either the XBLA or PC version.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I hope it comes to PSN. :(

I contributed to this project. At first I thought it was going to be fully funded for sure but now with 9 days left I don't know. 11K to go. If you have any interest in this game, please visit the kickstarter page and contribute.

They've added stretch goals now.

145k - Japanese Translation: Pier Solar HD now translated in Japanese, on every single platform!

150k - Dreamcast Extras: 16x9 Widescreen support, VMU integration, VGA support: We are sweetening up the Dreamcast version with everything we can think of! VGA will look stunning, and with 16x9 support it will be the perfect match. We aren't leaving out anything and thats why your VMU will be integrated with Pier Solar!

160k - Pier Solar HD Directors Cut: We are going to add in tons of stuff we left out of the final version of Pier Solar due to technical limitations on the original SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis cartridge. We're talking tons of new sidequests, mini games, and never-before-heard songs!

10+ new sidequests!

4+ new minigames with 2-4 player action!

New battle features!

175k - Pier Solar HD for Android & OUYA: Pier Solar HD for Android devices and the OUYA!

200k - Pier Solar HD for Wii U: Pier Solar HD for the Nintendo Wii U!

Yeah gotta say I'm not overly impressed by how far out the Wii U stretch goal is, sort of makes me not sure if I want to back it as that's the version I wanted :/

I'm a little confused about the Japanese translation being the lowest stretch goal. I think the potential audience for that is fairly small (though I certainly support it, and I'm looking forward to trying it out myself).
