Banned
Jeez lol. I've had a pending payment to Sony since June 8th,figured something weird was up. It's still sitting like that and I don't appear to be banned so fingers crossed I'm not the next domino to fall.
As far as I know in the case of getting banned and unbanned, you'll still lose all of your trophies which would make me switch platforms forever in a second.
Chances of PayPal fucking up are quite low. It's most likely PSN isn't accepting PayPal payments for some reason as the email states.
How Sony don't get more push back against PSN is baffling to me. The though of buying into their 'ecosystem' brings me out in a rash.
But it's saying that PayPal itself initiated the chargeback on thousands of purchases today. Doesn't seem like it's just users simply doing a chargeback.
Just off the phone with PayPal. They have advised that this error is on Sonys end and is to do with them closing or somehow limited their GDP account, meaning that the funds didn't credit the accounts.
So what the hell happened? Seems like users that legitimately paid still got the chargeback...which doesn't make a lot of sense.
So either Paypal decided randomly to chargeback a bunch of payments, or these payments were flagged on Sony's end and blocked. Either way, something fucked up in the process. And I'm wondering what and why.
Hmm there was a promotion recently where Sony was going to email a £5 voucher if you linked your pp. I did that begrudgingly, luckily I didn't spend anything.
Not sony's fault.
This is why PR have to be careful with everything they do. People blame them just for standing.
Yes Sony's system autobans until the account balance becomes positive, but that's not absurd or non-standard.
PSN cards are the future.
If my 10 year old PSN account with gazillion games got banned, Sony would be the recipient of my rage. Thankfully I have never used PayPal on PSN. Also, I haven't had much problems with using PayPal on eBay...Yeah. Paypal NEVER fucks up. Spoken like someone who has never dealt with eBay.
Just saw this on the Kotaku page in the comments.
Well you can still play discs on the PS4, so technically it's a very similar "restricted access" type thing
False. Please research before making incorrect statements. Steam hasn't banned anyone in several years.Everyone does know that Steam will ban your account for chargebacks too, right?
Every company always blames the other company until on the customer support line. Take whatever tthey say with a grain of salt until an official statement comes out.Would a CS account really know that? I don't know. I think it's best for these companies to not blame but simply fix and find ways to prevent in the future.
Looking at the UK Playstation Support twitter page is a nightmare right now.
Apparently. Took my credit card info off PSN after the hack. Been using Paypal since.
Guess I gotta start stacking PSN cards.
Yes, it is absurd.
Immediately disabling access to the content under dispute = perfectly normal.
Immediately disabling access to everything = no different than theft.
10/10Has it been done yet?

Screw this. Done with it. Gonna stick to steam where the platform holder actually cares for me.
Friendship ended with PayPal. Now Paysafecard is my best friend.
I get what you're saying and I agree, though that might require a real person to do that.
Would require a lot of man power = cost them money, unless they can somehow get the system to work that way.
It's all about making money for companies and more of it, year over year so yeah.
Maybe, maybe not. But I have to believe if a large issue like this happened and they know the root cause, they'd probably send that info out to the CS team to relay to customers. I don't know their exact method of handling stuff like this but having worked in call centers before and having to quickly adapt to a situation like this, I can see them being told quickly and then telling the customers on the line actively instead of waiting for an official statement.Would a CS account really know that? I don't know. I think it's best for these companies to not blame but simply fix and find ways to prevent in the future.

Is this post real.
Presumably for those affected the only way to fix it will be to re-make the payment. There's no way PayPal can suddenly re-make the payments (hence debiting peoples' accounts directly, potentially hitting overdraft fees etc)... That would be shady af.
Steam does it so there's no reason Sony wouldn't. It's just a matter of making an automated system that cuts off the specific game/service instead of just going "If Chargeback, Ban Account"
why didnt your friendship with Sony End? lol according to the comments its Sonys fault.
Just saw this on the Kotaku page in the comments.
Amiga... now that's a name I haven't heard in long, long time.'Steam does it too!'
'Microsoft does it too!'
'Amiga does it too!'
A bad practice doesn't suddenly become good or acceptable even if it was an industry standard.
