LTTP: Bloodborne

I need to get good at this. For some reason the no save points thingy for hours and hours is stressing me out too much. I hate repeating the same stuff. So i need to get better or never play this game ever again.

Great game, by the way. It's all on me.

I have Dark Souls 1 on steam, Bloodborne GOTY edition, and I plan on getting Witcher 3 GOTY in the next steam sale. In what order do I play. I'm itching to play Bloodborne, but I don't want it to ruin my experience playing Dark Souls. As for Witcher 3, I hated the combat and inventory in 2 and I don't want the combat gameplay in the other games to ruin the experience playing Witcher 3.

Any suggestions?

Witcher 3 is an amazing first time experience. A good 100 hours you can put in. Amazing stories, side quest. Dark Souls will feel a bit slower compare to Bloodborne and Witcher, but it doesnt mean its bad, for a first souls experience, go for this one. And its hard, be very patient, learn to dodge and try to grab a 100% physical defence shield as fast as you can. And Bloodborne, well, it could feel harder at first since you cant block and its faster a bit like Witcher. But its amazing like it is.

In which order i would go, either Witcher or Dark Souls first, and Bloodborne at last. Keep the best for the end!

Mmm that's just a problem at the beginning, after a while you should not be worried about that anymore. Maybe you're not opening shortcuts? You need to know that shortcuts are probably your main priority in the game, by opening them you feel safe while exploring or fighting bosses and you don't have to repeat routes.

I really hope this comes to ps+ at some point. Bought it pretty early on and sucked ass after multiple tries, those goddamn dogs lmao!! Sold it soon after but would love to give it another shot, just don't wanna pay again considering my lack of skill lol.

There are save points, just not in the way you're used to them. When you open up a shortcut in a area that's basically your save point.

Bloodborne would be nothing without its challenging bosses, while Wicher 3 could live without any fighting at all, and run purely on story and characters. Honestly never understood why the two games are ever compared.
While I agree it's annoying seeing the game's constantly compared (Bloodborne was not "robbed", people just have different taste from you), Bloodborne has a hell of a lot more than its bosses.

The game's setting and world building are excellent. There's just enough detail to make you curious about the parts that remain mysterious. And the twist about halfway through the game is excellent.
distinct exaggeration, obviously theres more to bloodborne than bosses, and more to W3 than its writing. But the games cearly focus on very different things to the point where the bloodborne vs witcher3 comparisons make very little sense.
Agreed. They're both action RPGs, but they have very different approaches to the genre.

isnt that the same scream every single boss makes? they got a lot of mileage out of whoever did that VA (vicar amelia, blood starved beast, ludwig, maybe even orphan of kos etc)
some of them were super obnoxious with their screeching, but none were as awful as the crows sound

They're totally different, other than all being a little high pitched (that's because we usually expect beasts to have low pitched screams).

Abhorrest Beast, Blood-letting Beast, Watchdog... have a more low pitched scream. And some Kin-like bosses of course sounds totally different too.

DLC spoilers
Definitely Ludwig gaining his sanity, standing upright covering half of his beast face with the moonlight sword. But the 2 things that make the moment even more powerful: the hype music that plays, and the description of the sword which in addition to the lore pieces from main game, help us piece together what might have happened to the Chruch's strongest beast hunter.
That is the one cutscene in gaming I will never skip.

One of the most memorable gaming moments of all times.

So, so good, the seamless shift in music, the voice acting, the cutscene. I never skip this cutscene and I've listened to the song so many times.

Later last night after besting the Cleric Beast, I descended again into the sewers. I found myself running from horrific monsters; those horrible crows, the... zombie swamp people, whatever. I ran into a tunnel, the one adjacent to the ladder which meets the Cleric Beast. I ran from the monsters as I was without an potions/estus flasks/whatever you wanna call em, when I was met with a horrible, terrible noise. I stopped looking behind me and looked in front of me.

Giant fucking horrible hog!

Omfg fuck this game. So scary

Just died to (DLC boss)
Lady Maria. She parried me and then walked up slowly and stabbed me through the heart, killing me with a professional style of grace. Seemingly like she has done this countless times before.

That was hands down the coolest way I have ever died to a boss. I ain't even mad.

Thanks to everyone for the advice on the shortcut close by the Cleric Beast. Now I just have to get good enough to actually win the fight.

That's my favorite fight in the entire game and one of my favorites in all of the Soulsborne games.

Curse them!

But umm... you ain't seen shit yet. ;)

Man, what an amazing boss this one was. Thebeast design, the combat, the music, the 2 phase part with that hype moment... everything was so on point.
The whole package makes it my favorite boss.
Maria
is also up there though, but it lacks the epic theatrics at least by comparison.

I love how many Bloodborne threads we get, the game is pretty much perfect and deserves the endless amount of love it gets. So many games feel disposable and come and go but Bloodborne never dies.

Ha, it's a Mini Cooper. And twenty minutes after I took that pic I slipped on some ice getting out and crushed my new game box. Argh!

haha. I thought I recognized that interior. I had an R56s mini a while ago that I really loved. Bummer about the game case!

Finally starting this.

Waste of Space, whatever it was called, I can start with that fine right? I hope this is as good as GAF makes out.

edit: :o the performance...

Sure you can start with that. Looking at your Nioh stuff you shouldn't have problem here.

The performance is rough at times but mostly fine.

Now try Bubble Bobble.

I got partway into the DLC and then put it down for Sleeping Dogs and the Witcher 3. While I finished the first and loved it, the second suffered from playing Bloodborne. The grim setting seemed too light, the combat too slow, and the enemies too tame.

I think I may try a strength build before I go back into my skill build.

Hmm, perhaps it gets better.

Will try it again a little later. Hard coming from Nioh's 60fps to this.

Yeah, probably should have reversed the order of play of those two, but the first segment is particularly bad. The fame pacing doesn't go away, but once you're out of central Yarnham the performance gets better.

Once you're playing for a while you'll forget to notice. Not excusing it, but it's a great game despite it.

Just looked online and I was doing something wrong... I was supposed to die to pick up some weapons...

*sigh* welp, I'll start up another time. I thought the enemies were a bit spongey...

You don't need to die. You can get into the dream without dying too.

With a weapon even at the start, they're not spongey, they can just kill you fast if you make mistakes (and you will at first).

The werewolf thing kills most people so they can get the weapons, but you can slip around it or go back from the dream without getting it, which can throw people off and make them think it's more ridiculously hard than it is, lol. There's overtuturialized games, and then there's this.

That archetype (Waste of flesh) just means you'll be playing in hard mode because your stats start lower and you get less blood echos, so leveling up will be harder.

Oh, while this thread is up, i just found out i could give hats to the messengers at the stump behind the safe house, does this do anything?

If anything, starting as Waste of Skin means you have an easier time leveling up the stats you care about at the start, since you start at a much lower level than the other origins and thus don't need to use as many Blood Echoes to level up the first few times ... but you may have a slightly more difficult time at the very beginning.

Those hats just change the appearance of the messengers in the notes you create.

Great game, by the way. It's all on me.

I'm replaying BB right now after having replaying DS3, and there is def. a LOT less ''bonfires'' in BB than DS3. DS3 I would walk, and then be like '' I except a bonfire right about now'' and there would be one 90% of the time. in BB, i've found myself having a lot of big stretches without a shortcut/bonfire, and there was a lot more of these stretches than in DS3 too.

I need to replay DS1 to compare too, but I believe DS1 is closer to BB in the bonfire department than DS3.

It is. Both DS2 and DS3 suffered from an overabundance of bonfires, although in the case of the latter part of the problem is that a bonfire appears pretty much every time a boss is defeated, and there might be a bonfire at the entrance to a new area not too far away.

It just affects your starting stats. You can level up any stat no matter your starting class.

How important are chalice dungeons?
You need to complete them to get the Platinum (kill a specific boss in a later one), and they have some neat bosses overall, so I would do them every once and awhile.

... don't be like me and save them all for the end or the repetition is boring haha

For real though, some of the loot is nice.

Just beat the Cleric Beast! Turned the game off for the night because I'm deeply concerned about immediately losing all the blood I earned in the fight.

Behind Dark Souls 1, probably my favorite Fromsoft title. Mainly on originality and new mechanics alone, as well as art design.
