LTTP: Kill La Kill: so the second half of the show is essentially a soft-core porno

The first big twist of the series where Satsuki
impales her mother in the back mid-monologue, lifts her up on the sword before tossing her onto a spike on a wall, and reveals that she's been a good guy all along
was incredible watching without knowing. Satsuki and Ryuko's relationship and how it evolves is probably my favorite part of the show. That being said, the uncomfortable parts were definitely uncomfortable as intended, but I still worry that they were also used to titilate (which I really hope wasn't the case).

For those unaware, there's an OVA that came with the DVD/BD. It acts as episode 25.

I really enjoyed it, I feel like Gurren Lagann was a bit better with the final battle and mid season twist, good thing I saw it after KLK though, so I enjoyed both of them about the same.

Then I saw Gurren Lagann and that has made me look back at Kill la Kill a lot more fondly because I absolutely HATE Gurren Lagann.

Kill la Kill is trash, action that is at least a couple of tiers below His Majesty Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and the more you go forward the more you see copious amounts of truly senseless fanservice.

One of the worse anime I have ever seen (and I have seen a shitload) action is shit, art is shit, plot is shit, characters shit, and the fanservice is goddamn annoying. This is at least several thousand times worse than Guren Lagan

Sadly Ep 25 didn't give me what I wanted. Which was
Ryuuko and Satsuki actually just chilling out and being sisters.
Mako joining in on that would've been good fun too. It's easy to see that Satsuki lightened up, a lot in the OVA and it would've been nice to see that play off of Ryuuko.

I don't agree with the other things but whatever.
Calling the art shit?

Opinion discarded.

KLK started okay, became a little more promising after the first few episodes but then devolved into a showcase of whatever the people at Trigger could rush out in the time frame. It's obvious they did not have a Gainax-sized budget when making this and so much of the show felt largely improvised. I never felt like there was any character development during the series honestly. The most anyone ever got character development was Mako after she got a taste of power, and honestly that says a lot about a lot of the quality gone down into the writing. Also wasted a few red herrings and some characters become totally extraneous to the plot.

I wanted this to be good so badly but it mostly left me really frustrated, especially when the team's previous work on Gurren Lagann was so fucking fantastic in how the characters developed and the story grew.

However there was anothing thing that bothered me about the show, which is what is in the thread title. As anyone reading this thread knows, the latter half of the show revolves around how clothes are actually alient invaders from outerspace. This results in people often being naked for multiple obvious reasons. Now a lot of this seems very strange, but you eventually get used to it. However, what is odd are many...how do I say this....sexual moments in the show. Most notable the pussy-rub-life-fiber turn off, the cage spanking, the three way titty grabbing, and etc. It all just seemed so...off to me. I mean if I would have randomly started watching the show during those episodes I would have thought the show was some high budget hentai or at least an actual good Ikki Tousen rip-off. I never really got why the mother kept molesting her daughters.
To unleash the most power, this is the form a Kamui must take! You cling to the puritanical views of the masses, proving just how inferior you are! But I won't be ashamed, if it means I can fulfill my ambitions, I will bare my breasts for all to see! I will do whatever it takes! For I know that my actions are utterly pure!

Or something.

But Satsuki got so much character development.
I should watch this one day.

Only because a particular somebody keeps saying I should. >_>
Yes, Satsuki is proper Kuvira.

I guess I enjoyed the ride when it came out but the show is really gross. It's essentially close up of 16-year-old vaginal lips for 25 episodes. The creepy factor exploded when Nunu or whatever the band girl's name is showed up naked, it's like smelly basements all across received a fresh coat of white. I cringed and looked away plenty. I would not dare watch that show again knowing what's in it.

My overall opinion was that it had it's moments, there were a few great episodes early on and some really cool parts (Mako was fun, good anime slapstick) but on the whole I wouldn't rewatch it or really recommend it to anyone.

I agree with the sentiment that it really lacked a good direction and just fell to pieces after a certain point in the plot. And yes, the fanservice was god awful from any viewpoint I can think of and only served to damage the show.

I loved Kill la Kill. But I thought that episode was horrible.
We're better off without it, outside of completionists.
As some have said, really should have been more of an epilogue rather than just dragging it out.

This annoyed me because I loved the tone of the first half of the episode before it goes crazy like most of the series.

Kill La Kill and Gurren Lagann are both fantastic for different reasons, IMO.

They're both very good for me. Too bad KLK couldn't mantain the animation quality for all it's episodes, but it's still very nice!

The show contains a very unique tone with a storyline that goes with it. The first half of the show revolves around how Japan is under the control of a Nazi High School dictator(s?) and the fight to freedom. However, midway through the show pulls a 180 and focuses on alien lifeforms. On paper this sounds ridiculously stupid, but the show handles it very well. This is because the characters, world, and plot evolve with the premise. The "bad" guys are not longer the bad guys and many things aren't what they seem. I feel that is sort of what made or break this show, that it stayed consistent all the way through its madness.

This is Basically the plot of Gurren Lagann (it was made by most of the same crew after all), just replace Japan with World and take out high school.

Yeah I really think it would've been cool if they just left it as an "everybody is maturing" type of episode where they just look back at the whole Ragyo thing and have a laugh over it.
Besides I needed more of that Ryuuko, Satsuki and Mako date that happened at the end of ep 24. Seeing Satsuki being all silly was great.

When I saw it I liked it a lot but had a lot of problems with it! Mostly that it peaks early with the first Uzu fight and then it waffles around a plot that I had very little investment in.

Then I saw Gurren Lagann and that has made me look back at Kill la Kill a lot more fondly because I absolutely HATE Gurren Lagann.

So yeah, thumbs up on KLK!
While I don't hate gurren lagann I don't see the hype for it, it was ok felt average to me. But klk thumbs up like you said.

Has this show ever been translated?
Yes it's been dubbed, even has a decent voice cast minus Gamagoori I think. Best one is Matt Mercer though. Only reason why I haven't watched it fully dubbed yet is because I just need Japanese Satsuki for full viewing pleasure.

I actually think Gamagoori's English VA is one of the better performances, and Matt Mercer is one of the weaker ones. My ratings:

Ryuuko - Starts rough, but ends up great
Mako - Great
Satsuki - Great, but can't live up to the Japanese VA.
Ragyo - Pretty good, but can't live up to the Japanese VA.
Nui - Aces
Nonon - Great

Senketsu - Wrong choice for the character compared to the Japanese, IMO, but does ok.
Mikisugi - Pretty bad :(

I guess my problem is I've really only seen 2 and a half eps dubbed, cause once they got to the Ryuuko and Satsuki fight scene I just went straight back to the sub. Satsuki's Japanese actress really just makes that part in my opinion and my ears really can't accept a substitute yet. It's kind of like trying to watch Jojo in English I guess. Though I've heard a cut of some of the later eps and it sounds down right hilarious. I actually didn't mind Ryuuko in the early eps cause Ryuuko is a street punk, she's not supposed to be too polished in the first place. I thought Senketsu was flat out fucking horrible.

The writing in the dub is fantastic. As far as voices I agree that Senketsu is the weakest of the main characters. Takarada is the best by far.

Shit la Shit was okay overall, and I admit I kind of sort of liked it as it went on.

It still does not deserve the overhype train it got. Ever. It's outside the Top 10 AOTY looking in.

Studio Trigger saved nothing. Nothing~

Satsuki is the best character because she's stronger than Ryuko and doesn't waste time on petty things. She's very strong-willed. Long live Satsuki!

The dub performance in the entire show is excellent. Highly recommended for those that want to watch it in English. Gamagoori's voice is amazing with his Ragna the Bloodedge yelling.

CANNOT forget about Takarada. That foo Takarada can pimp smack you with fat stacks of Zeni, homie.

Yeah him I heard in a teaser. They went HAM on Takarada. I really don't even mind the line changes in KLK it's almost impossible to take seriously any way.

The outtakes were hilarious, if anyone cares about those, especially the ones with Gamagoori and Mako, lol.

I liked the first third of the show and I enjoyed Ryuko, but I didn't care for much else. Its pretty mediocre and a disappointing follow up if you consider the team's last show. Gurren certainly wasn't perfect, but it was damn better than this.

Well at least the music/dub was really good.
by the way the idea you can like KLK but not like TTGL more is orders of magnitude so alien to me that you're all on notice.

Exactly. Having seen them both to completion, I feel like Gurren Lagann was way better. I understand that they were trying to recreate the over the top action, but it does not hold a candle to Gurren Lagann. If it weren't for Satsuki and the Elite 4 literally carrying the entire show, I would've dropped this a long time ago. That's how much it doesn't deserve the hype it received.

GL and KLK weren't trying to be the same thing imo

Watched the first two(?) episodes? Not gonna bother with the rest.

Show me how many women directed episodes of and designed characters for this show

I'm waiting

I never understood why there was an argument presented for that metaphor. I always thought they were reaching because it's not like this show is super vague on anything.
