Marvel: More console games are coming, announcements next year

But Marvel has no reason to. Why make a game for the X-Men & help Fox make more money when you can an Inhumans game, make just as much money, & promote your own movies?

Because for everything not a movie involving the X-Men, Marvel is the one making money. And by building up that brand, they can make more money.

Wolverine is still extremely popular, it's just that everyone else is irrelevant, you can blame it on the movies, but it is what it is. I know a few people that actually call Wolverine "X-Man".
Not exactly, his books haven't sold as much as they used to until the Death of Wolverine arc. The whole reason for X-23 as Wolverine & the return of Old Man Logan is to inject some life into the Wolverine mythos.

But they'd still be promoting Fox material.

I was talking about his popularity as a character, not how many comic books his character sells, the video games & movies are supposed to have much larger appeal.

An X-men game doesn't help Fox, unless it movie themed which they would get a piece of.
An amazing comic run isn't going to help Fox's X-men, the movies are already far bigger than the comic niche.
Only thing X-men related bigger than the movie rights is merchandise which unless is movie themed Disney/Marvel has full ownership of.

YO MARVEL!

I never said that Marvel doesn't get all of the money from comic book based X-Men merchandise. I'm saying that the overall opportunity cost isn't worth it in Marvel's eyes.

Like I said, they'd rather make a game for the Avengers & the Guardians than make a game for the Avengers & the X-Men.

There are a shit ton of talented developers out there who would probably be more than happy to work on Marvel IP. They can make games for all of their IP. It's not like they are hamstrung to pick two.

How about a 3rd person shooter game based on the agents of shield show.

Or a hulk ultimate destruction 2 or a spider-verse game with cell shade graphics starting Peter and Miles.

An Arkham-esque Black Panther or Daredevil game would be awesome.

About time Marvel realizes it needs to catch up to DC in the videogames department. I just hope by them mentioning console only doesn't mean PC is mutually exclusive. Which I doubt, of course, because PC is such a big market that can't be ignored.

Put it this way, why use Wolverine when you can use Black Bolt? Why use Storm when you can use Medusa? Why use Rogue when you can use Captain Marvel? Why use Human Torch when you can use Inferno? Even if you add an X-Men or F4 character, there's always another character Marvel can use in the MCU that could be added in their place. That's how Marvel sees it. While the mutants & the F4 are fine in the comics, the opposite is true elsewhere. And those developers who want to make Marvel games, tell that to DeNA when they were denied the use of X-Men or F4 characters.

They would only need to give Miles one move.

ASM2 had a pretty sweet Miles costume, at least. That and the 2099 costume were the highlights of the game for me.

That sucks that Fantastic Four and X-Men are off-limits regarding media exposure just because Fox owns the movie rights to the series :(. I guess.....they could work out a deal with Fox and gain creative control over those IP's after the release of the new films sorta like what happened to Spider-Man after Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out (where Disney, Marvel and Sony Pictures worked out a deal that makes all of them happy).

I could see that happening, as I'm sure Marvel would love to use Wolverine in a future Avenger film or use X-Men/Fantastic Four for a future Marvel Playset for Disney Infinity :).

I guess this brings up the complicated questioning of IP control and how it affects the larger picture :(. Regardless, the most fan-favorite characters (Wolverine and Deadpool for example) will appear in a MvC4 if one ever gets made, as Disney and Marvel know how popular they are (and with Wolverine, he might as well be the Ryu for the MvC series XD).

I only need 3 things out of this.

1. Marvel vs Capcom 4
2. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 or X-Men Legends 3 or I'll even settle for Marvel Heroes on console.
3. Platinum Games Spider-Gwen game. Which isn't as unlikely as people think seeing as Activision has hired Platinum to do Korra and Transformers already.

It's not that Marvel can't use the X-Men & F4 in games & merchandise, they're allowed to so long as they're based on their comic book versions (or the MCU versions in the case of Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch). Marvel just chooses not to so Fox doesn't get any free advertising.

And they can just as easily make Iron Man as Ryu's rival instead of Wolverine (Rich vs. Poor). They already did this on the Vanilla MvC3 box art.

That makes since :l; why give your competition more money when you don't have to.

But when do the movie rights to X-Men/Fantastic Four expire with Fox? If it is in say, a few years (guessing....2020), then while that sucks, it would be worth the wait to have X-Men come back in a huge way after the Avengers series of films comes to a close (they have two more coming I believe).

The problem is that it's too soon for anything worthwhile to be done with Spider-Gwen as far as story & powers go. Unless Marvel strikes a deal with Platinum Games to where their creative decisions can impact the comic, I don't see a Spider-Gwen game happening right now.

As long as Fox keeps making X-Men & F4 films, it won't expire. If they don't make a movie within 7 years for the X-Men or the F4, the rights revert to Marvel. Fox barely got the F4 reboot into production in time. As of right now they have Deadpool in post-production, X-Men: Apocalypse in production, & Fantastic Four 2 scheduled for release (which could change if the first movie bombs).

I guess Platinum can mix abilities and powers from other incarnations of Spider-Man into Spider-Gwen to expand gameplay and story, allowing a great and fun spider-man game :).

Platinum is a great developer and with a proper budget, enough creative control and help from Marvel regarding her character, the game can be fantastic :D.

Thank you for letting me know. I guess that shoots down my idea (five years of waiting to use the rights).....I guess another Spider-Man deal can be in the works with the X-Men IP, where Marvel gets creative control and X-Men characters enter the MCU while Fox gets a cut of the money (40%) and full control regarding advertisement/toy making.

It's not like it needs to be something in canon.

Marvel needs to step up Batman has had three good games recently and there hasn't been much noteworthy Marvel games. I guess Marvel vs C3 and Spider-Man Web of Shadows was okay, but I want better than ok.

That Spider-Gwen game that Platinum said they wanted to do sounds dope.

I'd also like to see a X-Men espionage game.
Pick your team of X-Men for various covert ops missions.

Edited to be more realistic.

More people see the movies.

By promoting the properties Marvel owns, they make more money.

And yeah will miss my X-bros but yeah.

Since Sony/Marvel are so good right now, could see that relationship getting some Marvel games out but exclusive. Hell, Marvel could fund MvC4 currently with Sony's help.

Vergil landed on the ground after his 2nd dp+L after extending with swords once.

"What's the matter? Aren't you going to kill me?" said X-23 with a smirk.

"I didn't build enough meter," he replied dejectedly.

"And I have a million health! DR. DOOM!" She yelled in retaliation.

"HIDDEN MISS ISLES!!!" he yelled in trademark fashion. X-23 begins jumping over Vergil to create the mix up.

Vergil reacted quickly and connected with a light punch on Doom, then looked up in the air with a flinch.

"W-where are they?" he queried anxiously.

"You hit me. The missiles are gone."

Fox is never letting go of the X-Men, especially now that they're making good movies with them. Their grip on the F4 is on thin ice since the movie isn't exactly hyped up & they supposedly sacrificed the 3D conversion budget for reshoots after negative test screening responses. If the first movie fails, the Fantastic Four rights may be back in the hands of Marvel sooner than you think (again, that's a gigantic if).

As for Spider-Gwen, I said that because anything Platinum may do could conflict with what direction Marvel wants to take Spider-Gwen. And with no well-established status quo for Spider-Gwen, writing her story & making her playstyle could get a bit tricky.

All suggestions are good in here and MvC4 would be life. Though I wouldn't mind a Marvel only fighter, similar to Marvel Super Heroes. The gem system there was fun and I'd like to see more of it. Could even work side by side with MCU advertising. That plotline would be godlike in MvC4 too.

Other than that, I want a Psylocke action title like yesterday.

I don't think a Spider-Gwen game will ever happen. I'd love to be wrong, but I can't see her being in a game as more than an unlockable costume for Peter. I'd be more than okay with that, too.

While we're talking about cool games that will never happen, a Squirrel Girl game in the style of Pikmin would be awesome.

Like with the other X-Men-based suggestions, I sadly don't see that happening given how Marvel's been treating the mutants outside of the comics.

yeah it's balls. Holding on to a prayer they let Activision hand it to Platinum or shit even High Moon.

So Activision owns the rights to X-Men games? Thought that got expired (as that was why Deadpool was taken off PSN).

If they still own the IP, I guess the X-Men or Deadpool IP's will be what Platinum tackles next once Transformers is finished, as that studio could use the IP to make a fantastic game :D!

Marvel already revoked the Marvel license from Activision (X-Men license included). The only license they still have is the Spider-Man license, & that's because they originally signed that deal with Sony.

Aaaaah shoot, you're right. That makes it worse! Forget I said anything about dreams. ;_;
