:lol yeah they quoted you. Japan is DS land, no one can badmouth the DS there.

Just curious, it seems like gaming as a culture in japan is so completly different then it is here.

I mean, when you walk the streets do you see like tons of people playing a DS/PSP? Or is it like the US, where you see like 1 person every month..

Cause they literally sell butt loads of games compared to what our whole country does, and doesnt our population smurf theres beyond belief.. hell I thought our gaming sales were insane, but lately I'm just like "WTF I wanna live in Japan" =[

On the train you see various editions of the Gameboy, DSes, and PSPs all he time. I ride what I think is the busiest line in Tokyo (Yamanote) and in each train car I'd say I can usually spot on average at least 1 person with a portable game system out.

US population is like ~280M and Japan is like ~127M right? If those numbers are right not so huge a difference..

At the moment, people playing DS on the train is pretty commonplace actually. Most of them playing Animal Crossing. You see lots of PSPs too.

I saw quite a few portables myself. Was surprised to see a guy playing Advance Wars 1 + 2 on the train line to Shibuya last summer.

I just dunno how badly to read this. Can I system that does this astonishingly bad just weeks after launch ever really have a successful future in that territory?

DoA4 will definitely be interesting to watch. And the reaction to LO and BD.

Animal Crossing's success is because it's popular with adult females who have a lot of disposable income... apparently. The thread's become pretty hilarious now anyway, and lots of discussion about which country's people are better at Mario Kart DS.

I think the biggest success story here is Animal Crossing. Both Brain Trainings were on to break a million a while ago, same with Nintendogs but as everyone is saying AC will be crossing that mark NEXT WEEK with two more big weeks to follow !!

Tamogotchi has a very real chance as well yet.

It cannot be stated enough that the big three weeks start next week (ending the 25th) and although Kingdom Hearts will probably do about 600k or so, the DS games are only going to increase even more...

Fantastic numbers all round, Mario Kart is another one that will surely break a million before it's done.

It's true that Nintendo hasn't had a non-pokemon million seller since Smash Bros Melee in 2001, but this year it's had:

Famicom Mini: Mario Bros
Nintendogs
Brain Training
Gentle Brain Training
Animal Crossing

+Mario Kart, Brain Training 2 most likely and Tamogotchi has a very good shot.

Nintendo is emphatically back- it's almost like looking back to 1994 or something and the SNES, and as we have been saying for the last few weeks this is SURE to be the best holiday period for a console EVER in Japan and 600k next week for DS, 250k+ for AC is very probable...

Abso-fucking-lutely amazing.

Even Tales numbers. Really, that series has been on the downward spiral for a while now. For once sales were bumped UP a bit.

I doubt MKDS breaks a million in Japan. Animal Crossing should be Nintendo's biggest international DS success until Pokemon.

Brain Training sales continue to amaze me. It should hit a million right around the time Animal Crossing does, with Gentle Brain Training on its tail and the new Brain Training coming out very soon. The amount of software moving on this thing is astounding.

Xbox 360 sales... well it will be interesting to see what happens with DoA4.

What I've seen, America has the most highly tuned snakers, hence probably the best, but they also have the worst manners. Seriously, penis/nazi avatars abound and it's rare if I get a win that the person doesn't drop right before it shows the trophy, or 1 second after I cross the finish line. The japanese seem to actually finish the game even if you are kicking their ass and don't really drop as much.

Europe seems to be a mix between the 2. although I played a 4 person match continental from europe last night and I won the first 3 races. Everybody dropped except me :lol

MKDS needs a function like animal crossing where that resetti dude shows up and takes away some of your wins for drops/disconnects. It should also be a trackable stat.

Can you elaborate a bit more on their Mario Kart discussion? I'm interested.

Right, in an attempt put some backing behind these claims of "record DS sales" I've assembled these lists from the last few years for various consoles.

They all take the first week in December and then track the next 6 weeks into mid-Jan.

The previous best was DS last year, but that includes launch so isn't really fair so you have to go back to 2002 and GBA + Pokemon for the next best, which did 1.3m in the 6 weeks.

Gotta agree with you on everything there. The Japanese guys I race with stick to their game and don't quit out at the first sign of trouble... they don't snake anywhere near as much. And YES, how many dropouts you've committed should be viewable so everyone can see just how wussy some people are!

I reckon it will, another 200k next week puts it within touching distance of 600k. It should do 150k week after, 100k then drop back to around 30k. That's 850k, 150k in 2006 is quite possible...

Indeed, it will have great legs. Oh by the way, I know those charts are a bastard to format, but your 2005 section is all over the place ;)

Yeah, I'm having problems with it.

BTW, if you can send me any 2001 Media Create stuff, that'd be great. :)

And you can see from that chart that ALL hardware increases next week, especially Nintendo hardware (Gamecube jumped 30k to 100K, GBA and DS doubled last year which is the closest comparison) so next weeks numbers really are going to be something.

600k (1m in two weeks) is almost a cert at the moment. GBA's 1.3m will be demolished, maybe even doubled, and PS2 is nowhere in sight.

Incredibly impressive stuff indeed. 6m in about 13 months in Japan alone?

Grrr...why does every sales thread have to become about charts of DS sales and stuff. Yes, the DS is selling awesome and is getting better every month...rock on.

Now someone answer my question about Ryu Ga Gotoku, since the game sales take importance over the hardware sales (which just spark stupid console sales bickering).

Btw, Abyss did fantastic and totally deserves the sales. It'll probably hit 600k lifetime which should be plenty nice for Namco. I wonder why Legendia tanked so much compared to the others? Sure the battle system is the worst of the series but people would have to buy it and play it to figure that out. Something about the pre-release hype just didn't click I guess...
