Hurray for DQIX! And Tomodachi Collection went up again? Non-game status (1m+) inevitable? :lol

Man Wii Sports Resort has crazy legs...also DQIX second week somehow outsells 99% of JP games 1st week.

Wii and PS3 sales continue to slip while 360 drops like a rock.

Yea but the 360 version disappeared after the 2nd week

The 360 has a fairly loyal fighting game following in Japan, so I wouldn't despair totally. Generally speaking though, you'd be mad to buy any online-based game multiplatform game on the 360.

Dragon Ball Wii comes out today I believe, Wonder how much that will sell. It got really bad reviews from Famitsu, it will not help it sell, but I wonder if it can meet 30k this week with the bad reviews.

Holy crap, Dragon Quest IX is going to skate by Wii Fit's LTD numbers in a matter of weeks. That's ridiculous. Makes me wonder how DQX will fare on Wii.

What's really great about Boku no Natsuyasumi 4 (My Summer Vacation 4), is that you can enjoy the summer game on the go!

So if you wanted, you can play it outside during the summer weather.
Pointless, maybe. But kinda nice.

I have a feeling that even the worst reviewed Dragonball game ever would still sell more than 30k, that franchise has insane legs. When was it created? 1989?

How many units has Mario & Luigi 3 sold now? I hope it did well, the series is fantastic.

It has all the recipes going for it; high unit base, one slot save file, a system that is renowned for producing games with massive legs.

preventing from sharing with friends or people buying multiple copies? :?

I started with this train of thought in last week's thread, but I think Square Enix have gone all out to cull one of the issues with DQVIII--second hand sales. DQVIII saw more than a million copies trade hand in the used market in its first year.

How is DQIX countering that?
- tons of post-ending content
- downloadable quests every week for a year
- free download access points at every McDonalds in Japan (thanks Nintendo)

Yeah. That's a pretty good way to give used sales a kick in the nuts, if you ask me.

...and "downloadable" quests that should keep many people from selling the game, so the used market is a little less relevant.

Here are first few weeks (by Famitsu) for the past two DQs for anyone interested:

Game title - first week - second week - third week - fourth week - fifth week

[PS1] Dragon Quest VII [Enix] - 1.860.000 - 1.070.000 - 329.000 - 155.000 - 84.000
[PS2] Dragon Quest VIII [Square Enix] - 2.240.000 - 560.000 - 200.000 - 117.000 - 118.000
[NDS] Dragon Quest IX [Square Enix] - 2.320.000 - 603.000

I'm not sure why everyone's shocked at the success of Dragon Quest IX, it's Dragon Quest IX. That's just like if a few weeks after Halo 4 comes out, everyone goes "WOAH, Halo 4 is selling really well!"

So, it took Dragon Quest:
- One week to get almost 4 times the sale of this years biggest rpg release yet, Mario and Luigi RPG 3
- Two week to surpass Pokémon Platinum

The main question for me is: what kind of legs will this game have in the next half year? Will this be a title where a meaningful percentage of new DSi buyers also buy DQIX with it ? If yes, including multiplayer was a really smart decision.

True, but I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that game sales in Japan have been quite low for a while now and, whilst seeing a game sell close to 3 million in its first week will always be a huge number, right now it seems all the more impressive.

Famitsu also reviewed bad Dragon Bal Advance Adventure (22/40), but i really liked this one.

Considering how low is KoF XII score, i think they don't like so much 2D or 2,5D games...

Indeed. I'm also glad to see a firm trying to make a game appealing to keep for consumers, rather than railing against the second-hand market.

True but the difference would be there would be a gnashing of teeth about how games being front loaded are bad if it was called Halo 4. And the 74% drop in sales would be used to indicate how horrible its going to be selling a month now if you extrapolate that over the next several weeks.:D

People like to yell obvious things that everyone can plainly see because they dont have anything of substance to add to the discussion.

There is no way Dragon Quest IX follows the sales pattern of previous Dragon Quests. I'm not saying it will have the Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver legs, but I fully expect it to at least double its first week sales. The only question right now is if it will join the 5 million club or it will remain in the 4-5 million scale. The following weeks until Pokemon will determine that.

So after 2 weeks:

DQ VII: 2,930,000
DQ VIII: 2,800,000
DQ IX: 2,923,000

It's amazing how close these numbers are!
