PSP: 845,614/3,528,576

DS Lead: 2,212,428/5,176,418

DS '06 vs. DS '05: 2,085,840

the PSP has sold nearly 1 million this year so far.

it always astounds me when ppl say the PSP is dead in the water in Japan.

it's in SECOND this year more or less, isn't it?

Competition affects sales of a product.
The dominatin of the DS WILL act as a slowing agent to the sales of the PSP.

The PSP is the Gamecube of handhelds in Japan.

Hardware sales, maybe. Software sales, it's behind a laughable amount.

It should take an additional 1.5-2 months to reach 1 million YTD.

It's only 91K behind it's rate of last year (YTD), but it's the floundering software sales (as mentioned) that bring the perception of PSP in Japan not having bright prospects.

PSP isn't dead in Japan, it's just that the Japanese are obviously buying these handhelds for something other then games.

Only non-games sell on DS.
People buy PSP for the astounding media capabilities.

Amirite?

If 84.56% of that figure is "nearly," then you might as well say that DS has sold "nearly" 3.5 million.

When second is 27.65% of the nearest competitor, it's not dead but it's at least got issues. Like the N64 versus PS1, in the US.

N64 had way more market share in the US (34%) than PSP will have in the end in Japan (something like 20%). Also N64 released over 1 year after PS1 but this is not the case for DS and PSP in Japan. Another thing is software sales, can we compare N64 software sales in the US with PSP software sales in Japan!?

Which titles arrived this week in Japan?

Could nSMB stay at top for the 4th week in a row ?
I don't know about this week releases but I think NSMB will sell another 200k and easily stay at the top of the chart.

New SMB will stay at first place.... even with almost the same sales figures of last week, and it will be followed by Digimon Story which will have between 75k and 130k copies sold

If Magical Vacation outsells Valkyrie Profile Silmeria... well, is it possible to be both amazed and unsurprised? :lol

Why would that amaze anyone? That'd be a major disappointment. :(

Great sales for Digimon and the Gyakuten Saiban re-release. DS domination.

EDIT: Original DS back in stock?
Oh I didn't notice that. It seems it does.

Brain Age 1 and 2 up.. bodes well for Animal Crossing to see an increase as well, but even if it doesnt see one, I cant imagine less than another 20k.

Oh snap Nintendo DS Fat lives.
And I'm quite surprised with Digimon Story.
I thought Digimon completely died out, but then again, I thought the same of Tamagotchi.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Does that 90% mean 90% sell-through of intial shipment?

Damn, whats so good about this iteration of Digimon?

Whoever's leaking the numbers is getting a bit lazier. Not only are GBA and Xbox left out this week, but GCN and GBM. Oh well, temporarily-less-cluttered charts.

test10pac.php

Since GAF doesn't properly display the images when a date is specified, I made them so that without arguments they default to the most recent week. So for the sake of our future selves looking back I'll also include a link to what will be the proper chart at that time.... heh, assuming I haven't deleted all these temporary and test files by whenever.

The fact that it's Digimon. Digimon and Tamagotchi are still at the same level in Japan that they were here in like 96-97.

If correct, Nintendo sold 164k in DS's for a week in the middle of June which has no (big) releases. Unheard of.

And Mario has legs to be reckon'd with. We should just rename the chart the "DS Media Create Sales Chart"

Whoa! This year is filled w/ more million seller than ever? :O There's atleast 3 more DS games that will join the club; FF3 PD/P.

Phoenix Wright climbing back up the charts is really weird. Low-price reprints rarely do that, much less make it to #8. Another example of the DS subverting the dominant paradigm etc etc

I don't think Phoenix Wright charted at #8 Kobun, its a handful data.

Barf_the_Mog

powerless or are they? o_O
Yeah, at 10,000 units sold, Phoenix Wright is probably closer to #20 on the weekly sales chart. But still, for being out as long as it has, it's really had decent legs.
