Media Create Sales: Week 12, 2015 (Mar 16 - Mar 22)

Those numbers for Revelations 2 look pretty good to me. Don't know how they compare to the main series, but for a sub series that seems pretty decent.

There has definitely been a drop in the series opening.

With Mevius FF confirmed to be F2P now, and it looking like the biggest effort S-E has put on mobile so far internally, I think it is safe to say that S-E has abandoned the practice of premium apps entirely, maybe with the exception of outstanding DQ ports, if there are any left.

All new products have been F2P for quite a while now, and their old pricing for games like Chaos Rings and FF Dimensions is all but dead.

this is how square enix saves final fantasy in japan

Was the average prediction for Bloodborne on gaf 120k....seems low.

It's PS4 exclusive right? 120k doesn't seem too low for that.

Were the other Soul games system sellers, or did they more sell to the already existing PS3 userbase?

For both Dark Souls the PS3 hardware sales were pretty similar to the previous week (36k -> 39k, 12k -> 14k), so no it's not a big system seller. Bloodborne is in a different situation though, being an exclusive earlier in the console life like Demon's Souls but with an established brand behind it.

However, I can't see any valid reason of why Bloodborne's FW should be close to any of the Dark Souls considering the install base

I don't really either. I can see it having some legs though, and growing as more people pick up PS4s.

I feel it's much more likely due to it looking like a really low effort sequel with a minimal budget.

It uses the same world map, is visually identical, has a ton of the same bosses in the same outfits (which raises the concern they're the same fights), and they even look to clone smaller things like the town and hint system in a fairly straightforward manner.

It feels much more like Bravely 1.5 than Bravely Second.

It's as if Square greenlit a sequel out of obligation, but didn't really care about the product.

Yes, the more I heard about the game the more it appeared that way. You can tell SQE has made a full push to mobile over the last two years.

50% price collapse will also come soon.

What does SQE have besides FF, just DQ right?

People are delusional if they think SQE would release DQ 12 as a PS4 game. I can see a 3DS version that is ported to everything, but not an exclusive.

They aren't gonna pass up on the 3DS install base.

I don't know how much this might impact sales. I mean, it's a direct sequel but also has new characters, new jobs, new towns in the world-map and they also implied the Moon might be an element of the story. This is perhaps how people would like a direct sequel to be, instead of a complete revamp of everything, scared they might not like the final product.

So I'd rule out the similarity with BD, honestly. Probably SQEX greenlited the sequel without caring about it too much, but Western sales were pointed out as a proof that gamers still like traditional jRPGs, therefore it might be more advertised in the West. It'd be hilarious if the game would sell better in the West and less in Japan.

For something that was a surprise hit they sure didn't give a shit. It's clear someone at Square Enix must love the game and has been doing everything in their power to keep it going on a shoestring budget but SE's management is clearly too busy looking at mobile with yen signs in their eyes to care that there's something worthwhile outside that.

The game also sold 1m worldwide, and probably on par with a game like LR:FFXIII, so there might be some interests in keep the series going.

I agree that Bravely Second is seeing a lack of excitement because there really isn't much to be excited about. The people who are most excited about it are probably the ones who have been in on the series since the start and want more of the same. It's not a groundbreaking series nor does it do anything particularly unique, it's an extremely safe "traditional" RPG and that's about it. I don't see it having much growth potential in Japan unless S-E wants to actually spend on it.

The game also sold 1m worldwide, and probably on par with a game like LR:FFXIII, so there might be some interests in keep the series going.

Well the people making LR:FFXIII are now making a F2P mobile game. So I guess that lines up with how S-E isn't interested in investing that much on teams who can "only" produce 1 million in sales.

Clearly there is, but "For the Sequel" was literally begging for money in the title. And what was up with that SP potion crap? That was like the most shoehorned thing ever probably to fulfill some sort of requirements from higher up. The fact that Bravely Second looks like it's pulling a Majora Mask and recycling all the assets even after all that is pretty telling. It's someone's pet project, but not anything Square wants to capitalize on.

I wonder when stores will stop to sell Xbox One and when publishers will simply not launch Xbox One versions of multiplat tittles.

The system is dead and I doubt Microsoft will spend money to change the situation.

I suspect LR:FFXIII was much more costly to produce, though. Of course SQEX is interested in mobile gaming, but wasn't a recent presentation of the company pointing out that mid-sized games were also considered, and that BD showed how there are still people wanting to play traditional jRPGs?

I do agree that at the beginning SQEX didn't see much interested in funding a sequel (that's the also the reason why the game is coming out late). But I think SQEX might more interested right now, given the success of the game worldwide; perhaps, this time it will be SQEX to distribute the game over here.

I'm pretty sure when a publisher like S-E talks about mid-sized games, they're in fact referring to stuff like LR:FFXII, Nier, Drakengard 3, etc. Something like BD probably isn't even a blip on the radar. They're happy that it sold well overseas, but that's about it.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
While we wait for hiska-kun / Takao / whoever wants to post last month Famitsu's monthly Top 30 and digital top 10, there are two datas for 3DS, from BriBri's blog

http://www.japanese3ds.com/post/114598706394

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D - 16,602
Box Boy! - 14,168

Adding from Hokanko

Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V: Tag Team Special [PSP] 34,000
Minecraft [PSV] 33,000
Something for PS3 at 18,000 (don't know what)
God Eater 2: Rage Burst [PSV] 18,000 (7.6% of overall sales)
God Eater 2: Rage Burst [PS4] 6,800 (17.5% of overall sales)
If I'm seeing right, the blog says that PS4 digital SKUs tend to have an higher split on overall sales compared to PSVita
Far Cry 4, a Cero Z game, with digital sales representing 10.4% of overall sales, maybe (there's a question mark at the end of the sentence)

The rest is pretty difficult to comprehend, especially if you're trying to do that with Google Translator.

EDIT: hiska-kun, good work as always with pics from shops, especially today...i.e. one of the most crowded days in recent memory. But where's our Famitsu monthly charts ;_;

Poor Asano. BS could have grown from BD if they had the time and budget. Hopefully the quality is very high and it can have some legs.

Might not even get Bravely Third

It's PS4 exclusive right? 120k doesn't seem too low for that.

Were the other Soul games system sellers, or did they more sell to the already existing PS3 userbase?

It end with 176 points on comg store so i think it can do 150k

Yes it is. I'm expecting 150k FW at the very least. It has good pre order numbers.

Yes, the more I heard about the game the more it appeared that way. You can tell SQE has made a full push to mobile over the last two years.

and PS4.

The game also sold 1m worldwide, and probably on par with a game like LR:FFXIII, so there might be some interests in keep the series going.

Its SE. 1 million probably is not enough for them to justify significant investment in the franchise. If BD2 declines over the first one then that could be it for the franchise.

Why do you think Drakengard 3 should considered mid-sized while Bravely Default not? Honestly, it seems Drakengard 3 started as a PSP project, and technically seems a very low-budget one; I might be wrong, of course.

As for "that's about it", than I don't see the point, for example, to keep releasing games in the Theathrhythm series (and localize them), for example. I don't believe SQEX strategy will only be about either AAA projects or mobile games, and as far as I read in one of the last presentations, there should be space for mid-sized console games.

Its SE. 1 million probably is not enough for them to justify significant investment in the franchise. If BD2 declines over the first one then that could be it for the franchise.

Is really 1m not enough for a new IP in the jRPG genre worldwide, and of course not a big investment? It's basically the best-selling new IP on dedicated devices by SQEX since... KH? Or probably Drakengard sold more than 600k worldwide?

I feel it's much more likely due to it looking like a really low effort sequel with a minimal budget.

It uses the same world map, is visually identical, has a ton of the same bosses in the same outfits (which raises the concern they're the same fights), and they even look to clone smaller things like the town and hint system in a fairly straightforward manner.

It feels much more like Bravely 1.5 than Bravely Second.

It's as if Square greenlit a sequel out of obligation, but didn't really care about the product.

Oh that sounds really disappointing. So a bit like FFX-2 in terms of map/world reuse?

Yes, it seems downloads were good; this also shows how the number of downloads might be meaningless per se when evaluating the success of a F2P game.

yes, cause the game is shit, you can miss most of the change shifts and you win anyway...
I don't know if they fixed that, but I signed the beta and also played around one month after it became public available and I remember one time I won a race just keeping the first gear.....
the only important thing was the start, if you did a perfect start you finished first even if you didn't do anything until the end (also tried this)

that's not what it is supposed to be a "rhythm game", people took a look cause it was free, it was Initial D, but I wonder how much time did they play after realizing how poor it was made
