For the record, the PS4 thing is just a joke, it's not gonna count for anything. ;)

Comgnet's Yokai Watch 2 big debut run, as of June 27th, 2014

[NDS] Inazuma Eleven 3 - 106pt + 106pt = 212pt
[3DS] Pokémon X/Y - 793pt + 785pt = 1,578pt
[3DS] Yokai Watch 2 - 532pt + 412pt = 944pt
Wow that's insane for Youkai Watch 2... Could this actually boost 3DS sales quite a bit?

Apologies if this has already been posted but third party support! Movie Videogame is due 6 November and Marvel Super Heroes on 22 January.

Edit: http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/game/legogame/legomovie/ and http://wwws.warnerbros.co.jp/game/legogame/marvel_heros/
I was kind of wondering since Lego City Undercover did half-decent on the Wii U (74K so far) whether they'd bring over other Lego games. Seems like they are =).

Is Monster Hunter 4U for sure a 1M+ opening? MH3G definitely didn't open at that, but I guess that was an expansion to a fairly old game at that point.

100k.

I hope they aren't expecting much. Oh and not encouraged that they are using a freaking Vita game -___-
PS3 is dying and SCE is a hardware manufacturer so it makes no sense to put games on there.
PS4 is lol-tier in Japan and requires huge investment for JRPGs.

Vita isn't doing great, but if OreShika 2 flops, I doubt it would do better in Japan on another PlayStation platform.

Here's what the previous releases sold:
PSP : Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke ( SCE ) { 2011-11-10 } - 88,694 / 134,532
PS1 : Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke ( SCE ) { 1999-06-17 } - 34,919 / 137,559

I'd say OreShika 2 is in a good place if it does 150k LTD.

We don't know much about the game yet, but it will likely open at 1M+.
I still don't think that's definite. Only 2 Monster Hunter titles have ever opened at over a million on its first week. I guess the fanbase already owns the console, so it's definitely possible, but have we ever seen the main game release and the "ultimate" version release a year afterwards?

First week sales:
----------------------------
Monster Hunter 3 Portable (PSP) - 2,146,467
Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - 1,875,115

-----
Monster Hunter 3 (Wii) - 582,548
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS) - 471,055

Note, MH3U was for a new platform and didn't have a lot of new content over P3rd. Not sure how 4U will be content-wise, but the first problem's resolved.

I don't believe that 200k LTD target figure for Freedom Wars one bit. I wouldn't be surprised if it did 200k+ first week.

It kinda surprised me that WiiU is doing this poorly after my visit to Japan last week. At one of Yodobashi camera, the entire (tiny) first floor was all Nintendo stuff. WiiU games were displayed everywhere. Sony and everything else was at second floor accessed through tiny stairs. If I don't follow Media Create thread I would think the WiiU is doing quite well.

Also the doom of handheld gaming is real folk. Through my lengthy stay in Tokyo, I had never seen a single person playing 3DS or Vita on the train, which is very different from when I was there in 2011. Everybody was playing games on their phones and tablets. The only place I saw people playing 3DS was at Disney Land and they all little kids age 10 and under. I know this is all anecdotal but it seems like Japan mostly really doesn't give a fuck about video game as much as before.

PS. Except Yokia watch though. This thing is crazy. There was a line at the store on Tuesday night for its arcade machine of some sort. Really insane.

Apple/Android is gonna kill gaming. Just as they vowed to stop Nintendo's touch generations, there needs to be a push to stop current trends lead by mobile phones. Rushing to support those platforms is a big mistake.

But then again, we can wait for an all out crash and then wait for a recreation of the business. Scary times, nothing is certain.

according to this picture, in Japan they are waiting for XBO :)

what shops show means nothing, if people is not in line at cashier with some products, you can fit all your shop with a particular product, but that doesn't mean it is selling...

I think you mean apple/android is going to kill what you traditionally think of as gaming. Gaming is bigger than ever and more people are playing games in some form than ever before in history.

Why exactly is rushing to support these platforms a mistake? What other option would you suggest? They can either keep supporting a slowly declining and increasingly volatile and expensive market or they can move to the ever growing mobile market. It really is a no brainer.

I also don't see what makes you think there will be an all out crash. The mobile market allows for a much more even spread of success unlike the traditional market where success is becoming more and more dominated by a few top players. That plus it's an incredibly expensive market to get into making it a much more risky proposition compared to developing for mobile platforms.

I don't think things are actually scary at all right now unless you are coming from the view that only the traditional consoles are all that matter.

Youkai Watch merchandise lines again!

Over 2000 people lining up at 6am in the morning. Was already over 1000 at 1am

Two and a half hours later inside the hall
You know what? Nintendo should team-up with Level-5 and a launch some Youkai Watch amiibo.

Have a special NFC adapter + 3 Youkai Watch amiibo pack.

That'd be the best way to launch amiibo on the 3DS (which doesn't have build-in NFC... unless they launch a new model with just that).

But no matter what, Youkai Watch amiibo NEEDS to happen. In fact, Satoru Iwata and Akihiro Hino should have all the necessary paperwork signed in already. Youkai Watch merchandise is so popular, it'd be such a waste not to capitalise on that. And some figurine that could directly interact with the game? That'd be insane.

wouldn't L5 want to have all the merchandise sales to themselves though. I mean those figures are already a massive hit so why would they want to split revenue.

Would they need to split anything.? I doubt Skylanders has to split a significant amount of their figurine profits. There's nothing stopping them from making NFC figurines and integrating them into their games. It doesn't need amibo branding.
