There's too much competition on the 3DS for Monster Hunter.

Hmm, the Vita currently has a set price of 19980 yen, right? So the Vita 2000 comes in slightly cheaper at 18980, which is about a $20-25$ price cut. Does that count?

Not really. Handheld video games tend to hover around 4800 to 6000 yen, so it's a minuscule drop. For comparison, at the theater my wife goes to, a ticket is 1300 yen.

well if the crazy bundle flops, i don't see how they'll have a choice but to cut the price.
At that point, they need to do a Sony move the do a controlled hemorrhage to right the Wii U ship. They don't have to lose as much as Sony did to revitalize the PS3, but they'll have to do something almost as drastic.

Sorry that this question needs to be asked GAF Buddies but, is there any chance ANY chance at all pokemon doesn't slaughter it in numbers next week? Is this the most hyped pokemon game ever or what?

Preorders are >1.26 million copies (most preordered game in Japan on the 3DS).

I believe reports are coming in that it is already sold out prior to release. That and MH4 shortages.

I admit my prediction is on the optimistic side, but taking into account November+December sales I am assuming 3DS may easily reach 15-16 million LTD by the end of the year, and with the help of some big seller and a new model, I wouldn't dismiss the idea of 3DS catching up with PSP LTD by mid 2014.

They should have dropped the price with the bundle not hike it up. It's not that great a value if you don't want those specific games.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Those bundles are clearly aimed at the old Wii owners who presumably would be interested in those games. I agree though that a price drop would still have been a better way to go.

What's up with the heat wave joke? Sorry to ask, I'm no regular visitor to sales threads.

Some weeks ago Serebii made a comment saying that the reason the Wii U was selling badly was because of a freak heatwave in Japan, stopping people from going to the shops or Pokémon Centers.

Looks like Wind Waker has done essentially nothing to help the Wii U...if Mario doesn't move units then Nintendo has a real problem on its hands.

They have a big problem on their hands. Mario won't move big numbers.

Epic Mickey for 3DS, with a horrid 20-40% second-week sellthrough and only 2,905 sold on its second week, is overall quite a disappointment for Spike Chunsoft and Disney.

You would think after the success that was Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life that Disney games would be more popular, but it appears to be on a game-by-game basis.

Japan has had nearly an entire year to read online about how terrible the game is, so no surprise there.

It will move some units - but you can't have healthy console without steady stream of new releases and that won't happen due to lack of third parties interest.

Thanks to you two. It is quite warm in Tokyo though, if I'm applying my totally inappropriate European expectations to what October temperatures should look like.

On Topic: I wonder how long 3DS will have > 80% of the HW market share. Probably until the PS4 arrives.

The Wii U bundles are 3 weeks away? 3 more weeks of these numbers then, or is there a software release in between?

The thing to see is if those even help. If not then I don't know what Nintendo can possibly do. Either cut the system off early or resign to have it limp along for a few more years while they prepare a system that is closer to the PS4/XB1 while begging third parties for versions of games once the system is out. All the while trying to prop up the Wii U with first party titles as best they can to not burn bridges with the customers they do have.

Nintendo needs to stop being so insular. They need non-Japanese in high positions of power that have more of a world view of the market. Doesn't mean they need to stop marking the games they are making but how they present things and how they interact with other companies and customers needs to change. What they are doing is clearly not working. From centralizing everything to Japan and to one person to even allowing Nintendo Power to die. It's been a downward spiral with almost no bumps. As Nintendo fans and WiiU owner I hate seeing this and it can't be ignored.

And this is the real issue. The console has no 3rd party support with amazingly the 3rd party support being even worse in Japan than the West which shouldn’t even be possible when you look at how bad it is in the west.

Relying on one game whether it be Mario 3D or MK8 to somehow save the day is just not realistic. The console needs a steady stream of software releases which doesn’t look like happening so the occasional bump will soon result in a return to the dreadful numbers we have seen for the last few months.

OMG Wii U and Vita.

Dear lord. I know there's revisions and bundles coming but still....

I'm not sure how much those even address the core issues.

For the Vita, it's not like there's some major game coming out in tandem with it. If someone was sold a month ago, maybe they were waiting until now, but I'm kind of doubting tons of people were chomping at the bit after seeing a line-up that largely consisted of exactly the same types of things the Vita was already getting. Could it be helpful when those games actually come out? Probably, but at that point it's rather hard to tell if the impact was more than a few thousand units.

With the Wii U I feel there's a similar problem. It tries to take the type stuff that was already released on the system (Mario and more casual friendly games) and then improve the value proposition a bit. Could that win some people over? Sure, but it's still a highly expensive proposition toward an audience not known for buying tons of sequels. How many Wii owners want to buy a new version of Wii Fit with a $300 box instead of just using their current one? How many people were totally sold on NSMBU, but were sitting there going "If only it was bundled!"?
