If the only outcome after the $20k+ payoff is that the girl goes to a camp that she was being sent to anyway then I hope the media reports the KS as a likely scam. The people pledging will hopefully become restless and inquisitive when, many months later, Susan hasn't updated them on anything, hasn't shown how the money has been spent, and has avoided their questions.

Of course at that point she could just tell them she needs more funds to achieve her "Keep Up!" vision and they'll gladly pledge... :/

I think a game will be made, RPG Maker isn't very hard to use and you could develop a pretty meh game in like, a week. However, it takes time to make a good game, like in anything, and I bet they'll just release some crappy no-effort game and pass it off as being crap as it was made by 'a nine-year old.'

I really shouldn't keep up to date on the Kickstarter story as all it does is piss me off, but she's one of the rare breeds who pisses me off on almost every level. I'm kind of there myself. This has been fascinating and demoralizing in equal parts. She'll just have interns make a game for cheap/free with zero involvement from her kid outside of awkward videos. It's the avenue of least risk.

The alternate thing she might do is "Kenzie's now so stressed out she's sick, and she's only 9 you guys! As a mom I'm drawing the line out of concern for her health - unless you want to support this other project (on my own site) to have some pro game devs finish Kenzie's dream project on her behalf since she really, really wants it to be made."

So guys.. when this ends in 16 days, how about we start a group Kickstarter. We need a villain, so we'll need to come up with a good story.

Take JCS on a cruise - guy needs to decompress. Poor downtrodden man spends so much time looking out for the musculoskeletal health of others and composing barely intelligible defenses for kickstarters, it's time to give back. Stretch goals will pay for adobe products so he can roll around in them and be healed by their glory.

Not sure about camps, though what makes this whole thing hilarious is that RPG Maker Camp is a known scam in the first place. You could literally learn a lot more for free on the internet, as there are plenty of more in-depth and great tutorials on how to use RPG Maker online, completely free.

As in any tool, it depends how you use it. RPG Maker is low-level, but can and has been utilized to created some pretty swell games. But those were made by individuals who put in thought, effort, and time into their games, and I very much doubt they went to RPG Maker Camp.

2. The entire project is deceitfully pitched in the first-person of a 9-year-old girl wanting to go to camp, when it is actually her mother acting like her daughter - or not even her daughter but rather a fabricated girl that tugs on a reader's emotional strings however Susan can possibly fathom. Read the first update and the third - just like her main page, the fabricated girl always makes sure to mention her youthful innocence, excitement and her ignorant, villainous brothers. Compare this with the video Susan posted only briefly, and it becomes even more pathetic.

I've loved supporting developers on kickstarter, but the KS support of Susan disappoints me.

I can't say I'll stop using KS as I imagine there will be projects I want to support.

I seriously think we should all think about an organized message to KS, either in the form of a mock project (they let the death star project exist without canceling it after all) or some kind of major petition.

Between this and the Penny Arcade thing it's been made pretty clear that Kickstarter will ignore its own TOS if there's good money or PR involved.

After reading this whole thing I'm probably not going to fund any more Kickstarter projects. I'm not saying 100% I'm done, but I'll probably scale back to very small donations for very specific and credible projects from names I know outside of Kickstarter.

There's still the faintest glimmer of a possibility that she will be shamed into putting the money towards actual game development. If that doesn't happen then the media should be crying "scam" from the highest rooftop. Not only a scam, but an official KS backed scam. If they don't, then the reason is either ignorance or cowardice.

This is not the first time someone gets 20k for a RPG maker game. In the kickstarter thread there was one where a guy got that much for a RPG maker game using public tilesets! 4chan had a megapic blasting the project.

There are plenty of good KS projects out there but I feel like as a matter of principle, we should abandon KS and find alternative ways to back these projects e.g. through other platforms or by coming to an independent arrangement with the creator(s).
