Most satisfying gore & violence

THIS.

Also: shooting people with pistol/shotgun in GTA-series

After being reminded of Shadow Of Rome I've got to go with that.
Achieving "Roman Spotlight" was always a joy as you knew some chap in the crowd was going to lob you a giant mace or maybe a lengthy scythe, regardless it would be a tool of limb severing goodness (or possibly skull smashing).
Step on a switch that engulfs your chosen victim in flame, remove a limb with a scimitar and then beat him over the head with said limb, Brutal.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is my top pic. When you see Ryu standing in a room painted with blood and carpeted with dismembered limbs, it's hard not to feel like a superninja.

Also of note: The God of War series, the Mortal Kombat series, Bayonetta, and No More Heroes.

I am not a blood and gore freak, but I don't see how anything can touch Ninja Gaiden 2, SplatterHouse, God of War 3, Dead Risings, Dead Space 1 and 2, Fallout 3 and NV, Mortal Kombat 9 or Soldier of Fortune. Onechanbara would be up there if the graphics looked more realistic.

I agree with Fallout 1 & 2 and Baldur's Gate.
The critical killing hits in these games have a great feel of impact and being based on chance makes them very satisfying.

Well, my favorite 'violent' game would probably be F.E.A.R., on account of me not playing that many violent games:

For some reason, I haven't touched the second one yet.

Poseidon's Torture Sequence in God of War 3

Elbowing a Plagas Head off in RE4

Reapers Killing Sheva/Chris repeatedly puncturing their lungs in RE5

Killing Grab on a Satyr in God of War 3

The first few times you shot a head or torso off in Resident Evil 2 was great stuff. There is some really great stuff in the Samurai Shodown series as well, especially from 3 and onward.

And, I don't really understand people that call out Gears for the weak assault rifle. Maybe try using one of the other weapons whereof almost every single one is a one hit kill?

soldier of fortune 2. i played nearly the entire game with the hand gun. fire a shot from a distance then run up and see what part of skull, face or brain you blew out. every kill was different which made it so much fun, and the parts you removed scattered on the ground.

Seems they've all been mentioned.

Mortal Kombat
God of War 3, wasn't my thing after 1/2 way to 2/3rd through but man the kills were spectacular.

I get more satisfaction out of kills when a gun is not used, maybe I'm just desensitized. Or a serial killer ... w/e.

I have to agree here folks. Shadow of Rome is quite gory but for the sake of "historical accuracy" perhaps? I do love that game. Ninja Gaiden 2 a close second but I do wish it was maintained in the sigma release.

I have played my fair share of gory games and have to agree with FEAR 1. Slow-mo + Shotgun = the best.

I always thought this was pretty awesome:

Yup this takes the crown, because when it was first shown during E3 it actually had a bunch of babies here crying about it being too much.

It's one thing to piss off mainstream media with gore, but you've got to step your game up to piss off actual gamers which gow3 did.

I don't generally pay much attention to it, unless it's torture porn like God of War and Mortal Kombat. That's annoying.

However I rather enjoyed some of the visuals and sounds in Borderlands. Particularly when Mordecai's Rakk pulls off an enemies face and when you shoot those freaky midgets and that awful little scream of anguish that comes from them.

It wasn't a particularly good game, but Bloodrayne 2 had some pretty amazing gore - lots of MadWorld-esque kills. Enemies would hobble around with an arm or leg missing before collapsing, with a geyser of blood spraying out of the stump. You could also cleave an enemy in half vertically, and both halves would ragdoll to the ground so the effect looked unique every time. Nice cross-section detail, too...

I wish we would get a current generation Bloodrayne.

They were never great games, but they were great fun. Thought BR1 was beter than BR2 in terms of game play and stages though.
