"My Xbox 360 Died and I Lived to tell the story" Official Thread

Hey guys, Psychotext has unfortunately just begun enduring a long three month banning as the result of:

1) A silly ban bet he made
2) MS's inability to produce enough 360 consoles during Jan/Feb :)

Anyway, Psychotext has asked me to tell you to continue to post as normal. He will still colate the stats and message me with the info and I will relay it in to this thread.

Number eight just died for me as well. Sigh...
Number eight? This just baffles me. There seems to be such a wide difference between different user's experiences.

I'm on my second 360. My launch UK Premium 360 died last July, at which point I replaced it with an Elite which is still working fine to date.

Freezing issues on my 360. Nothing major, though. Just every 30 seconds or so. Sigh.

This is one month to day that I got a 360 back from the MS mothership due to RROD. This is my third 360 overall. And yet they still ask me on the phone if I put my 360 in a well ventilated area.

I just called xbox support and asked to speak to a manger, the bitch put me on hold for 8mins then hung up on me..I'm about to throw this piece of shit out the window, MS has the worst hardware quality and customer service I have ever seen in my life.

Before I buy my 3rd and LAST x360 are the falcon models more reliable than the older versions???
The Falcon is supposedly more reliable. However, the Falcon I got to replace my 3rd had a defective DVD drive. Based on this thread, the Falcons do seem to be doing better.

I just want to chime in and say that I recentlly had my third 360 break, third RROd. I had a launch unit first that broke in about a little less than a year but since I was forced to buy the comp usa warranty that is where I replaced it. Same thing happened 6 months later, another RROD. Same story, brought it back and replaced it.

Now CompUsa has shut down and recently my third 360 RROd and I had to go through Msft. I just want to say I am pleasantly surprised with the turnaround, I shipped it off Monday and I checked it today and they have already shipped whatever they are giving me! I was half expecting to not see a 360 for a month or more. So while I'm still pissed that this is my FOURTH system, I'm happy with the quick turnaround.

My third xbox 360 is starting to periodically RRoD . . . right before GTA IV. Ugh. F' you MS . . . I'm gonna have to go buy a replacement to have for GTA IV when I sent this one to MS in a coffin.

AAaaarrrgh.

Eight 360s? EIGHT!?

I was lucky enough to not have a problem with my 360 the year that I had it, and I probably could stand maybe two RRoDs, but eight...that seriously blows my mind.

Anyone have any idea what the turnaround time is right now? It looks like the drive on mine (Premium bought in Feb 07) is finally about to go. It's had problems off and on for some time now where certain sounds/music would cut out briefly, but about a month ago it started randomly trying to read 360 games as DVDs; it would say Play DVD on the dashboard, and it would take me to a screen where it tells me to play this 360 game please put it into a 360 in about 8 different languages. Re-trying was working, and once booted it was fine. However it's been getting worse and I just had to reload a game about 6 times to get it to work. My friend is also having the same problem, but not as bad yet.

Also I have the extended warranty through MS, and they billed us for it but we never got the paperwork, anyone had any problems with that, or can they find it from the serial #?

Well that's excellent, they have no record of the purchase of the warranty despite me holding a bank statement where it clearly states Microsoft Extended Warranty and the purchase date with their phone # and the amt. Even better I have to send them a letter with a copy of this with a three week turnaround just for them to basically consider the fact that we have the warranty. Wow. MS just lost a customer next gen.

I keep calling MS for my brother. They have had his for almost three months now. At one point in time the account specialist lied to me saying it would ship out last Friday. It never shipped and I can't get the guy on the phone at all.

The normal 800 4 my xbox people are unable to talk to me saying that only this specialist guy can talk to me. I got to the third level of the call centers Management before I hung up from hearing "we understand how frustrated you are. I will remark the account so the specialist handling your account can call you back."

I've had 5 360s (4 US consoles that I kept replacing through Best Buy, and one JP core that I bought after selling my last US model). My JP console is doing the checkerboard screen freeze now (gonna rrod soon I guess). Makes a loud annoying noise that makes me worry about my tv speakers too. I've had troubles with both MS and Sony support, both are crap and I am really hating this gen hardware so far. I'm going to wait for the 65nm gpu or a complete redesign of the 360 before I "jump in" again since I stupidly put an XCM custom case on this last 360 (thus MS will not honor warranty).

Definitely a different system. We won't know if it's a refurb or a new machine though.

Thanks for the reply, Yea I thought with a 3 day turn around that they could not have repaired my unit. Now all I sent was the 360 completly by itself, would they send me a new unit with all new accesories, a new hdmi core would be great. I am in Canada by the way.

My experience a month ago (in Toronto), was a 2 day turnaround time. I sent the barebone system (Elite), and that's what I got back, and elite, with nothing else.

Oh, your XBLM DRM is most likely boned, like mines. Be sure to have time to call when you get it back. Mines just got resolved Friday (2~3 week wait time for them to fix.)

I got my console with my tax return in February 2006. She died tonight, 10 minutes into the Halo 3 co-op campaign. "2-3 week turnaround" once they get my console they say. I really hope not, I was really, really looking forward to GTA IV. :(

Y'know, things break...

I would be more worried about the 360 that they send you actually working... =\

ROAR another 360 down :< this time my elite, the other day I was playing fightnight round three then the red started going weird and never came back, then all of a sudden poof the image was gone, never to come back.

I have tried different cables, another monitor. Everything I can think off I still get sound log onto live fine and everything but any image. Anyone know a fix or will I just have to go out and buy another one?

Right before fucking GTA4 as well. :lol

I did buy it in GAME under a year ago so they may be able to swap it, but I do not have the box etc here at uni so.. yeah.

Well I couldnt be bothered to wait till 2moz to see if a gamestore would exchange with with a box or anything so I went out to Tesco and bought a brand new arcade for £130, which isnt too bad I guess.

Maybe I will go 2moz and see if they will exchange my elite still and sell it on, or take back the arcade I dunno.

Well I just took my broken elite to my local GAME store, and they changed it right over the counter with no questions (The core unit, powerpack and video cables kept hard drive etc..).

So now I am stuck with this brand new arcade unit too. (at least if one breaks I will have a backup for GTA4 :lol)

The thing is in my house there are three regular users of the 360, which is helping contribute.

http://welcome.bbb.org/ File a complaint if you're really that upset. I had an English speaking supervisor call me the next business day, didn't manage to pick up at the time but I was surprised at the turn-around.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHH. Mine isn't even RROD, the video started doing goofy stuff, and now I get no video output at all. Tried everything to no avail. I'm not even sure if a towel can help here. Any ideas?

Dead. Second one. So do the refurb units feature the new chip sets and are they generally running "good as new" or is it better if I just go out and buy a new one? :/

If you're under warranty there's no sense in buying a brand new Falcon unless you're hard up for the blackness of the Elite or HDMI or 120 GB of storage space.

Call in, ask for a dedicated repair specialist and you'll be in good hands. Plus, I've seen Opus units in the wild so that's a promising sign.

That's a typical turnaround time these days if your DRM isn't working post-exchange right out of the gates.

Fuck Microsoft... I got mine back yesterday and it was dirty... I am not talking disgusting, but there were small pen marks by the eject button... grease and scratches from where they opened it...

I was really disappointed the way it came back to me... especially since I am anally clean at home and it left my house with barely a dust spec on it.

So, I brought it back to Gamestop and got $120 store credit...

I went to Best Buy and bought an arcade unit...

Of course, most of my arcade games do not work... screw it...

Boom Boom Rocket worked, Pac Man CE worked... Sonic did not, it is set in Trial mode...

I have 40 games on the arcade... I will test them over the next few days and see what works and what does not.

So on top of the hardware problems(which i also experience already) people with extended warranty's are been bend over by MS.?

Having to do so much SH** to have a system replace when you buy a warranty is retarded and only show why MS should never ever be market leader,is just been another one in the race and look how they threat costumers.

They can't find your records yet they find fast is any one is playing on live with a pirated system.:lol but lets face it the more warranty's people actually try to use the more money they loose,in many products extended warranty's are a waist of money and many times is and extra income to company's,in the case of the xbox 360 is not, since the fail rate is so high it make no sense for company's.

My 360 was a core worked find until a few weeks where it started to give me graphics problems, like snow or glitches like when you had bad reception on normal TV,and now it doesn't give me video at all it start green when i turn it on and then like 10 seconds latter Red.

All this with no video or screen error, and it is not a cable problem since i already check with both i have, and actually when i turn it on without the video cable it star red from go,when i put the video cables it start green then turn red.

I don't know what problem it has the RROD or the RLOD.

Sorry, I did not want to take a chance on the sent back one breaking after July when my warranty was done... at that point I would have to pay to get it fixed... screw that...

I now have a new one (built 2/13/2008) with HDMI to my new Sony KDL-40XBR4 LCD and I have the Best Buy 2 year warranty. So, if it RROD again, I get a new one no questions asked...

And it is brand spanking new, clean, fresh... and is quieter!

Anyone knows if CostCo is still doing lifetime warranty(walin replace) for 360's because this solves the problem as far as waiting for the whole waiting for coffin, shipping, repair then return.
As soon as mine gets back I am gonna trade it in to GameStop and get some games and head to Costco or go to Best Buy & get a two year warranty

So my second 360 just stopped displaying video a couple of days ago. I tried different TVs, different cables and its definitely the system. Its out of warranty so is there anything I should know before wrapping my 360 in a couple of towels and letting it red ring?

So, i finally got my 360 back, yesterday. Microsoft had to replace my 35 day-old falcon arcade unit. I believe it's a refurbished unit, but not entirely sure. Because i still had my harddrive, i was able to keep my saved games, and my arcade games. Everything is as it was, only i have a different unit and diff. serial number. This whole ordeal was fucktared, but at least i have my system in time for GTA IV. Now let's pray the system doesn't crash...

Or so i thought. Actually, all my Arcade Games are now 'Trial Versions.' The only way i can play them is if i am ONLINE and connected to Xbox Live. Weird?!?! Well, this is just a new turn in events.
