Next Generation SHMUPS: Resogun, Ubusana, Jamestown,......

They like money that's why they make mobile games now. I'd kill for an Ibara Black Label/Pink Sweets ps4 port, but they are done.
Came expecting this, gaf does not disappoint..
I love cave.. But..
Last game from em on arcade? I think a dodonpachi iteration in 2012...
They got moneyhatted HARD enough to just port their stuff on xbxo360, when it was the least favor able console in the jp market..
Instead of doing more console port, for them 2012 was mostly "yo,dawg... Port everything on ios for da money!"
Sigh...

Thank you for keeping this thread updated. Vulkaiser looks terrific, would've completed missed it if not for this thread.

Platine Dispositif (developers of GundeadliGne, Gundemonium Recollection, Hitogata Happa) are releasing another PC Shoot'em up. The name is unpronounceable, but they have links to the demo on the YouTube description. It looks really good.

Thanks! Tried the demo and liked it. The music is really good.

Seems the game uses a made up language ingame and that's why the title is unpronounceable in english ;).

I know that. I'm just pissed that a Shmup developer would make things harder on themselves to get a game out there.

Going all digital to iOS, Android, Steam, and PSN/XBL isn't costly. At least not mobile to PC. You have devs bringing iOS games over all the time to Steam. Danmaku Unlimited 2 even went from PC to mobile to Steam. They had over a 1000 sales for that game on mobile. Cave shooters average higher than that. They usually have 1000-5000 on the Google Play Market. The free apps let you play the game for like 30 seconds before telling you to buy the game, so d/l from those don't count for shit.

Sky Force is on it's way as well. It's actually a HUGE mobile shmup with over a million d/l.

You have one to 5 man teams releasing shmups on multiple platforms... the whole "it's too costly" argument is really invalid. It's almost like these companies really do hate for their games to get out there and known.

The arranged soundtrack sounded amazing last night. I'm glad Blackbird played it twice. When I think arranged though I think of remixed versions of songs, but these are completely different songs and they were awesome. Gryzor and Yotsubane are working together rather well.

Here's the video with the new soundtrack sampled. http://www.twitch.tv/degigames/c/5838989

"Arrange Soundtrack"
Thank god. If this game has one weakness it's the soundtrack. So bought. Will propably cost me more than the game :p

Wait, so the Crimzon Clover DLC isn't new gameplay?
I'm down either way but was hoping for some new stages...

So yeah, just to add another "next-gen" (doujin PC) game to the pile, looks like the group behind Exception has a new one coming:

Some of my arcade scorer friends got some mileage out of the NESiCA version of the first game, so I might throw some yen in it if they bring the sequel too.

Nah. I wouldn't expect new gameplay any time soon since it's only one guy who made the game. The new music sounds boss though and the superplays will be nice to watch just so I can improve my skills.

I think Yotsubane would rather make a new game than try to build on this game anymore than it already has outside of adding similar content from contributing people like Gryzor and the Superplay players.

A Voxel based Shmup? It looks pretty cool.

Subbed, elated that there is a shmup thread.

Wondering if anyone has suggestions.

I used to be a crazy fan of shmups back in the day and loved classics like:

  • einhander (ps1)
  • raystorm (ps1)
  • mars matrix (dreamcast)
  • most console r-types
  • border down (arcade)
  • 199X (arcade)
  • Blazing Star (arcade)
  • toho series (own 1 or 2 on pc)
  • twinkle star sprites
  • honorable mention - Metal Slug series for platforming shmup

More recently loved stardust (vita) and resogun to a lesser extent. Next, am super looking forward to Galak-z.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for someone with sensibilities represented by the list above? I've sort of been out of it for a while and I need to change that...

Well, Crimzon Clover and Danmaku Unlimited 2 have been mentioned multiple times. And for very good reasons. Crimzon is insane and I don't even like Cave style that much.

Also had some fun with eXceed 3rd, which is a great grazing trainer to boot.

Drifting Lands is an RPG STG that's on the horizon. It will be a while before it is released, but there is a basic demo for it on Steam right now. The aesthetics look pleasing and the combat system is uses cooldowns for special weapons. It's pretty neat. I'm super interested in it.

Wow this is like everything I love rolled into one. Thank you. I am now hyped for this!

I'm on my mobile so I can't flesh this out like I want to until later. But there are some more games I discovered for this year.

Zangeki Warp - PC
Mighty Tactical Shooter - PC
INHeritage - Android
Airship Eternal - PC
A Quiver of Crows - PC
DubWars - Ouya, PC

Thanks sir, will look for these titles.

Yeah Cave have some good titles but I remember getting desensitized to their style at one point (Cave and straight only trajectory enemy fire), but shall certainly taking a look.

Good to see this thread still going, so i said i'd bump here too, to give you a heads up.
I recently started a thread about asking Taito for a console/PC port of Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX.
Today i got a reply from Taito. It doesn't say anything really, but at least they are aware of it and they have passed my email around.
Please check the thread if you're interested and drop them a line too if you want. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have another cool release in this thread ;)

Finally sat down and tried the demo. It's pretty extensive. The game uses a power up system that grants you more drones, but the real thing about this game is that you get to position them. You gain new formations for your drones through out the game that help get you out of otherwise tough spots.

The only bad thing about this damn game is the made up language. It's like these guys kicked back and asked each other, "What can we do to make this game as obscure as possible?"

Blue Revolver is a Shoot'em up that currently in its early stages. I've played the demo for this game and I can't wait to see the end product from these guy. Give the game an upvote if you like what you see.

Aces of the Luftwaffe - Official PS4 Gameplay Trailer

PlayStation Blog (EDITED) said:
Aces of the Luftwaffe is a classic retro shoot ‘em up. You play as the Allies fighting against the evil-but-badass Germans (I am allowed to say that – I’m German!). As you can imagine, it’s not a historically correct game; it’s about having fun! You can choose between three different planes and pilots with different skills, from a fast but not heavily armored Spitfire, to the “Beast” – my favorite heavy fighter: slow, but deadly. In five different level packages, you have to beat the likes of Major Köhler with his flying tank, or Commander Eugen with his armoured Zeppelin.

You can collect mighty power-ups in each mission. Multiply the fire power of your plane, repair damage on the fly, call for wingmen or use the super power of each plane to give them hell.

You can, of course, also upgrade all the planes so that they get more powerful in your missions. Use the collected medals in the game and use them wisely. We have a variety of missions, from escorting your bombers to enemy territory, to destroying enemy tanks on the front lines. We really honour the genre with this title and bring a great gaming experience to your PS4!

I am working on bringing Score Rush Extended to the PS4:

http://xona.com/scorerush/extended.html

It is a sequel -- an extended version -- to Score Rush on Xbox 360, which was an experimental game for us. We attempted to make the most fundamental shmup game ever: a game that would test how good the player is at dodging bullets and shooting down enemies, and nothing more. The scoring mechanic was designed to give the best score to the players who dominated the game. There are no special hidden ways to milk points. Whatever visually looks like domination is measured as such. Kill enemies faster, get more points. Extra bombs and lives left over at the end of the game do not give bonus points because they have nothing to do with destroying enemies. It became the #1 game in Japan on the Xbox LIVE Indie Games platform (as did a few of our other shmup games), and now we hope to actually share this game out there. I am excited to soon release this game on a platform with online scoreboards and trophies.

I'll stop there.

If there is an appropriate way to introduce this game to NeoGAF, let me know. If so, I can talk about it in more depth as I would in devlogs.
