What hint? Did he call it Brian Burke's least favorite mode?

PS3 and 360 are getting different pre-order bonus gear:

First blog regarding goalie equipment is out:

Hey guys. This is Gurn Sumal, one of the producers on NHL 11 and IÂ’m going to be doing a weekly blog for the next month about the goalie equipment in our game. Like many of you, I am a HUGE gear guy. Luckily, our artists are big gear guys as well which means weÂ’re able to squeeze in a few extra sets of equipment. Being a goalie myself, I made it a priority to implement as many sets of equipment as possible and so this year we have a total of 32 different sets in the game.

If youÂ’re wondering how weÂ’re able to put this much equipment in for the goalies as compared to what we put in for skaters, itÂ’s all based on memory used in game. For goalies, there are only ever four goalies in the rink at any one time as opposed to 36 different skaters. We have to account for every single skater and goalie potentially having a different piece of equipment, which can add up quickly. The more equipment we have to load, the longer our load times are and once in the game it will affect the framerate. Not to mention, when you play online and all the equipment information has to be shared so everyone is seeing the same thing.

Back to the gear, one of the biggest changes to the goalie equipment this year is that weÂ’ve increased the amount of recolorable zones to nine (for sets that are complex). This also includes the older equipment that has been in the game in previous years like the Bauer X: 60 or the Vaughn V3 sets. Even with 9 zones some of the equipment may still be a little off due to the sheer amount of customization that a specific set may have but weÂ’ve tried to make it as close to real life as possible. So why not add more zones for more authenticity? See the paragraph above on load times, memory and framerate!

So with all that being said, letÂ’s get to the good stuff and talk about the sets that are in the game. This week I will be starting with the Vaughn goalie sets, as Vaughn is one of the more popular goalie brands around. Vaughn has a total of 8 sets in the game which are:

• V3’s (Updated to support Tribal Graphics)
• V4’s (Supports Tribal Graphics)
• Epics
• SLW’s
• Velocity icebergs (new design)
• 7700’s (Price Graphics)
• Pulse(Updated to support Top “pulses” to be colored)
• Velocity(updated to support Michael Neuvirth’s Set)

Pics of all the Vaughn gear are here.

Maybe the game mode is some good old no rules 3 on 3 like NHL Hitz style :D

Fucking awesome.

Apparently it's Ultimate Team like FIFA and Madden have. NHL Hitz was awesome though. :D

I really wish they'd make another Hitz game...that game was so addictive.

It would sure make for some tense online action if they let you flatten the goalie the way you could before :lol

Finally got around to listening to the full podcast interview with Rammer. Mentioned the demo will be out mid-August. Unfortunately no custom controls. One thing I did like was that stick breaks are physics based as well. Hopefully that will keep people from putting ALL their points into slap shot power. Also sounds like they're working on arena details a lot more and getting the actual goal horns.

No goalie fights is gonna piss my friend that plays goalie right off..
"Don't make me come out of my net and fight you fuckers!"
He'd always yell that into the mic..

Sticks need to break when people glitch shot. That'd be lolz.

He did say they might look into goalie fights in the future. When I'm playing goalie, after the whistle, I always skate out of the crease and push players around the ice. :D

That would be amazing. :lol

Some new info:

You are now allowed to have a Custom Goalie Home and Away Pad set for your EASHL team.

That means, you can colour:

* your trapper in roughly 9 Colour Zones
* your blocker in roughly 9 Colour Zones
* your Pads in roughly 9 Colour Zones

AUTHENTIC PUCK SIZE! The option is now in the game to have the authentic puck size. I used it at my time at EA and It looked excellent. The puck didn't look so bulky especially when the goalie was making a save and it looked great in the scrums. It is also effect by physics with a smaller puck.

Here's another great addition, the dev team worked long hours on the goalie scrum algorithms and created much more scrums in front of the net. More puck smacking and bashing in front of the net is what you'll see

The graphics team has added 50 addition all new NHL cyberfaces (not sure who just know the numbers)

Also the CHL will have 5 true to life cyberfaces, obviously including Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin and company.

Some presentation info; The Arena's will have real life Arena Music (Not sure how accurate this will be, but it's exciting nonetheless)

Also, for that added effect, the last minute or so of the games will have the FINAL COUNTDOWN..

The day I put in a NHL game and get to hear that "do do do" song in Chicago is the day I know they have reached perfection.

So they're not fixing goaltenders this year?

It would be nice to see more people working on the NHL series. The series is really lacking in some places and it definately shows that they're understaffed.

I'm sure there'll be tweaks but I doubt a whole lot will change. The physics should help a bit though. No more of those fuckin convenient rebounds that bounce right to an opponent's stick.

Goalies will still be robotics walls, you'll fall once you hit them, and the puck will probably also act the same in the goalie's "control-zone".

Yeah, I'm sure they'll still be pretty crappy. I just think that the physics will help a bit in certain areas.

Anytime I play goalie, there are two ways I get beat more often than others:
-The way too convenient rebounds
-The ridiculously easy to do top shelf shots

With proper physics, both of those would be cut down dramatically.

The cross crease garbage will get me here and there, but that's due to the fact that lateral movement is so nerfed. Anything else I can usually shut down pretty well. I hate that when you go to make a save, your goalie just freezes and pivots. Playing goalie would be fine if the movement was a lot more fluid.

They haven't given an in-depth look at the "real-time" physics engine. They've mostly jsut shown that players react a little differently when hit, and that the puck will bounce off broken-sticks. Remember when NHL'07 was released? "REAL PUCK PHYSICS!!! Puck bounces off skates and legs!!!" And it turned out to be less than impressive.

It really isn't a realistic physics engine when parts of the game totally ignore real-life physics (goalies, pucks that fly ridiculously).

They said awhile back that it would take them until at least NHL 13 to have the physics engine completely built for the NHL series. So yeah, the physics won't be everywhere but its a start. The problem with their "physics" in NHL 07, was that the reactions were still scripted, much like the bounces the puck takes in NHL 10. As far as I'm concerned, the less scripted gameplay, the better. Starting with the way the puck reacts is the best place to start.

Yep, sucks that the goalie is still completely scripted and robotic, it's one of the most important and crucial positions in the game. then again, one of the toughest to get right.

Agreed. I love playing goalie but its undeniably broken. One other thing that bugs me is the directional saves. If you actually manage to get the goalie moving and reach to make a save, it rarely works. It seems like it opens more holes for the puck to get through. Fixing the lateral movement is the first thing that needs to get fixed though.

# seeing some q's about glitch goals and exploits asking what we've done to address this.

# there'll be an upcoming blog about what we've done with the goalie to make him more human/less robotic and also to take away 'always goals'

# also, hardcore community guys came in to find glitches/exploits while we still had time to make fixes.all the glitches from 10 were tried.
Fucking EA getting my hopes up again.... :lol

YESSSS. We can shoot off face offs. I've been trying to do somehow do this in NHL 10 ever since Jimmy Howard got scored on in the playoffs. :(

Those dusty manual goalies are gonna die!

It does look different from NHL 10. That "play" doesn't though. Just looks like more scripted garbage.

Hey at least on the intros the players don't walk through a bench anymore like they used too. :lol

I do want to see a lot of improvements in GM mode because I love it, of course my custom team with the salary cap even has won 16 SC in a row now, it is like the year 2025 or something on my game. :lol

Goalie blog updated with Bauer gear:

• One100
• Reflex 10
• Rx9 (updated to support more zones)
• X:60 (updated to support more zones)

More BS from EA SPORTS.

Edit: It's not really live, they're picking and choosing questions to answer. They haven't answered one of mine yet.

Yeah, I'm sure it's not 100% live. I did like the intro video they posted though. :D
