Ninja Gaiden 2 GDC images and trailer

I sat in the audience at the MS Keynote and watched Itagaki's translator demo the game.

To be honest, the combat looks totally amazing, and the animations are great, but the game looks like Sigma with more particle effects. That's what I took away from the 5-10 minutes he spent on it. Not a bad thing, but DMC4 is definitely much nicer looking. I thought it was unfortunate that the whole "blood texture sticking off of a wall" bug that was in the previous iterations was still present, but hell, the game still looked fun to play, so who cares right?
Pretty much.

I guess the high-standard comes from the bar that Team Ninja set, last generation.

Hopefully, this time they let you at least carry your stats to the next difficulty and adjust the weapon upgrades accordingly so you don't actually see everything the first time through. More action games need to do this because otherwise they're way too short and I really have no incentive to go back.

Looks really fucking fun, and that's what really matters to me.

It's too bad though that we can't even go 1 page before the DMC/NG comparisons spring up. :/

See SoS is easier than DH because I can play the game and have uber stats.

DMC4 is on the whole a lot easier then DMC3 ever was. I've only done Mission 1 of Dante Must Die and even that was fairly easy compared to the boss fights or even the actual fodder enemies of DMC3 on DMD mode. Overall, I'd say they dumbed the game down for the mainstream folks. To compensate for boosted up stats all you really need to do is adjust the AI that Ninja Gaiden fans are so proud of. The other way just seems like artificially enhancing the difficulty to me. It feels cheap.

The changes between Dead or Alive games after DOA2 or DOA3 were few and far between, in my eyes.

Seriously, saying after 2 or 3 render your argument insignificant because if you even begin think that 4 might not be all that different, you're a fool. Allow me to elaborate:

You play DoA 2 but hitting your opponent into a stun, you then launch instantly at max hight. In 4 you have to hit them into a stun then perform 2-3 more strikes before being able to get max height. That's a massive fundamental change to the base mechanics given the DoA counter system. Then you have the fact that 4 actually has a Okizemi game, offensive holds, parries, and the huge changes in how stages function (danger zones, wall games, barriers).

In short, you obviously even didn't get a simple grasp of them games, not even enough to understand them at a basic level.

I was just pointing out the disparity, the same can be said of DMC3 where the earlier levels on higher difficulties are much easier due to the fact you have a full, upgraded arsenal.

Overall, I'd say they dumbed the game down for the mainstream folks.

I'm not overly sure of that, I think a lot of it has to do with people getting so damn good at DMC3 they automatically start off great in DMC4, improving still as they play through the game. But to be honest the fun of DMC has always been about doing crazy shit to me rather than the difficulty.

Ninja Gaiden does both, hurrah, and you need to start from scratch! The reason players will want to play it again is because it becomes more enjoyable. DMC revolves around the player character, NG revolves around the enemies.

Can you use dismembered limbs as weapons? Because that would make a great bullet on the game box.

I would cheer if they added a feature like that :D

Ninja Gaiden II......do I seriously have to wait until June? Damn.....

Jesus... as if the NG vs DMC cry babies isn't enough... we now get to experience the awesomeness of NGS vs NG2 debates.

You do realize that two games in one genre can exist, right? Saints Row & GTAIV can live happily ever after. Gears & Resistance complement each other wonderfully. Sonic & Mario, whatever.

Some individuals may prefer different games for different reasons... earth shattering, I know.

There will be another 20+ pages proving very few people agree with you as the DMC vs NG debate shall never die

Just thought I'd let you know

Looks very sterile! like some old 1995 PSone CG intos , i mean c'mon ! this is just utter laziness , they're not even trying to make the game look good .

I was gonna say it looked like those old cg shots of Bowser used to promote the N64 and Mario 64 on stuff like game boxes and in magazines, but then I couldn't find any screens.

No, it comes from the game not looking as good as other similar titles out now.

why does everyone want to position ninja gaiden against devil may cry
it reminds me of a line from the simpsons that marge says to homer when he won't go to church:

"don't make me choose between my god and my husband, because you can't win."

in this analogy the part of god will be played by ninja gaiden.

:lol At first I thought you were trying to reconcile the two games...

When you compare that to something like DMC4 with high quality HDR, tone mapping, fully dynamic shadows, etc. it really looks dated.

that look like complete and utter dogshit.

seriously, why did you add that bulletpoint?

I've encountered no tearing at all in the game with only very minor slowdown in the forest

BULLSHIT. there is a lot of slowdown in certain sections of the forest.

we'll have to make two official threads for ninja gaiden 2 when it's released. inevitably, not unlike homer wrecking maggie's birthday cake by eating the letters, the nancy-boys will want to dance in wearing flamboyant trench coats to try and adulterate the awesome. so we give them the thread equivalent of the pre-ruined cake marge gave homer to distract him from the real one. everybody wins.

Homer: Well, there's not a fanboy in sight. The Fanboy Patrol is sure doing its job.

Lisa: That's specious reasoning, Dad.

Homer: Thank you, sweetie.

Lisa: Dad, what if I were to tell you that this thread keeps away fanboys.

Homer: Uh-huh, and how does it work?

Lisa: It doesn't work. It's just a stupid thread.

Homer: I see.

Lisa: But you don't see any fanboys around, do you?

Homer: Lisa, I'd like to buy your thread!

Super Mario 64 vs. Super Mario Sunshine vs. Super Mario Galaxy

All three of them have very readily apparent changes in gameplay, controls, and graphic design. Hell, so far, even Halo 1 vs. Halo 2 vs. Halo 3 seems to have evolved more than Ninja Gaiden 2 has.

It probably doesn't help that I got stuck on Alma in NG1 and I'm not really interested in the game enough to try and practice enough to beat her. I'm sure for people starving for more Ninja Gaiden this looks incredible, but it's not really doing much to change my opinion on the franchise.

It just looks like NG1 with a gore mod and better particle effects, to me.

Please, you are an utter newb and are in no position to critique the gameplay in Ninja Gaiden.

Sorry.

Just got home at watched the video, some impressions:
-they compressed the shit out of that video, more artifacts than King Tut's tomb
-the music is great as always
-"bad art", but who gives a shit?
-the tonfas look fun, but I really like the upgraded Lunar with spiked chains at the end
-the boney dragon demons with boobs = :lol
-the simple cutscene at the end was surprisingly good, even the writing and voice acting were fine
-Ryu is a badass motherfucker
-saved films will be amazing
-the demo cannot come soon enough

In short...

...I'm already preparing the official topic.

Hahahah, oh man, so there's a guy in this thread complaining about how samey the game looks without having played it AND he hasn't even beaten the original yet? STFU unless you know what your talking about.

There are many small changes going on that someone whose played through the original can see even in videos, it seems for one thing that ninpo is much more useful then it was before and you fight more enemies at once, plus unless It's simply been awhile since I last played the original I'd swear the pacing of battle is even faster this time around.

I too am starting to get sick of the genre comparisn between devil may cry and ninja gaiden, both are action games but they kind of travel down different forks of the same path. To this day there is nothing that quite captures what DMC does gameplay wise but I could compare ninja gaiden to the Onimusha series.

Ah well, June can't come soon enough and hopefully a demo is out before that.

There's something wrong with the aspect ratio of the MP4 posted here: http://www.gamersyde.com/leech_6253_en.html It's like super widescreen, and I have to use MPlayer just to get it to display correctly.

I downloaded the MP4 because I thought it would be some super high bitrate 60fps glory (and it is), but it needs some fixin'.

Just thought you should know.

Btw the video on XBL is terribly compressed. Compression artifacts all over the place.

Glad that's the case. It looked off when i was watching it but I wasn't sure why. Can't wait for this. :D

And for shame at the DMC/NG battling too.

The camera and music reminded me of god of war. I want this game so bad. Too bad it will never come to the ps3 :(
Haha, I was gonna say, "for a developer that never pays attention to the competition it sure does look like they been influenced by GoW." They even have Medusa-a-likes in there.

The video looked like complete dogshit, honestly. I think a firing is in order.
Yep, a bunch of HD videos for this game have looked like crap for some reason, don't know why they're so damn compressed. Reminds me of gametrailers HD videos.

Looks the same as always, has a last-genny feel to it.

Like DMC4? If NG2 has a last genny feel so does DMc4.

You do realize that there were games long before God of War that had environments like that right? And you do realize there were games that had huge environments also?

If anything that levels reminds me more of a stage in Enclave (which came out years before God of War) more than anything in God of War. I bet the ones who are screaming God of War , their first console was a PS2 and wouldn't know that many other games have done those environments already.

Who cares about graphical nipticks when Ruy is such a badass ! He cuts, shreds, demembrates, behade like the gracious butcher he's always been. and it's coming this june, right ? See, this piece of news is exciting...

even if the game doesn't look technically better than sigma, the fact that the levels were created for the system means it looks more impressive

I love comments like these... please describe to me this next gen feel that you so desire... please I want to know of these next gen experience that this game obviously doesn't display.

Just downloaded off Live and watched it. This game looks so incredibly awesome and June can't come soon enough. I think I need to buy Ninja Gaiden Black in May to prepare for the awesomeness.
