Nintendo Direct Pre-E3 - June 3, 2012 - 6PM ET [Over] - Porn Curtains Ahoy

Must say I really loved the MiiVerse. Ninetendo jus beat Xbox and playstation in online imo. It was just so cool.

Anywayz: I have made the first episode of E3 News, which is a series of videos that I plan to post each day of this week. It can be viewed here if anyone wants to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVf5r2h55rc

And yes, I am self aware of how bad my videos are, incase you couldn't grasp that like the Wii U Video :p

Really looking forward to Tuesday now. I'm ready for the games.

posted already? Iwata reading comments during the presentation.

Posted it a few pages back.

I can imagine Iwata reading all the "porn curtains!" or "dicks everywhere!" comments lol

Nintendo must have a shitload of games if they're gonna talk for an hour about only games basically :D

Unless they take a lot of time demoing them :p

Probably a ton of 3DS stuff along with WiiU. They also probably have to cover downloadable games for both systems, what kind of VC support, etc. etc.

Iwata mentioned "alone together" and how the Wii U will help solve this issue. But wouldn't the pad just contribute to the issue. someone gaming on a private screen isn't exactly engaging with others around them.
.

The internet browsing and video sharing feature showed how the Wii U can bring families together. Also, Iwata was saying how the gamepad can bring people from all over the world together (messaging, video chat, twitter/texting)

The Wiiverse will also play a big role.

It would not surprise me if they opened with a big third party game, even if it's multiplat. Something like a Blops2 etc just to show the core they mean business.

Iwata said that they would be showing off things for the 3DS at a later date. I think their E3 presentation is going to be all about Wii U.

It's wayyyyy too early to be making statements like that, I feel like. The announcements of transferable accounts shared between the 3DS and Wii U will make it a lot easier for me to echo that sentiment.

They said 3DS was for another time.

The video was pretty cool (Iwata almost looked like a Mii & I wish they would let the man speak in Japanese with subtitles or Reggie translating)

That cross platform thing is very cool. Browser compatibility would mean you could use it on XBox when it gets Explorer.

Nintendo should really be smart and set up an app store system similar to Apple's.

That is the epitome of "alone together." I haven't read the book so maybe I'm not understanding the point. They did show a picture of a family sitting in a room, everyone with their own device not paying attention to each other to showcase visually the point being made. A connected device like the pad controller is not much different from a phone, tablet, or laptop. Any game console can be engaging for more than just the player. I just find it ironic that "alone together" would be brought up when most of what they were showing are the same things contributing the to phenomenon.

By the way, I am sure you guys already went over this, but it seems that the console looks the same and that the touchscreen on the gamepad is still single touch.

why not show off one or two big games? that would have generated a big hype..

no one cares about mii warawara or stuff like that really...

it might be nice to have but you wont really know that until you use it..

So Iwata mentioned high powered graphics being a thing now, but didn't really go into details during the Nintendo Direct.

What are the chances we get some actual specs during the E3 Presser or we get at least some baseline specs on the press site/regular website post conference?!?!

The whole freaking point was to save the E3 presentation for games and get this stuff out of the way early so they don't have thousands of viewers around the world going "come on, come on..." during their big conference.

I noticed in the Mario overworld map, over one of the Mii's messages it said "Cleared in under 100 seconds!"

Confirmation that Wii U games will have achievements?

Actual specs? I doubt we'll ever see them, at least directly from Nintendo. They stopped bothering to release that info publicly a few generations back iirc.

In that case, yeah I guess they'll have maybe...3-4 key titles to showcase, do a demo reel, and then maybe some big third party exclusive reveal or two?

EDIT: just realized tuesday is my day off, so my body is pretty ready.

About that scanner on the tablet...

Does it read cards with magnetic strips, or is it for placing toys and do-dads on? Strange that they would put it on the controller itself and not have it as an add on. I guess it'll force devs to think outside of the box, or perhaps become the most underused function on it.

Also, he briefly mentioned 2 controller use, so is it a go, or was he trolling mii?

I was pretty impressed with the Miiverse. If it's actually utilised like Nintendo hopes it to be, it could be pretty cool.

I was disappointed though that there was little discussion of how local multiplayer is going to work. In particular, we still don't know how many GamePads work on this thing.

It's near-field communication. Tiny little RFID chips are built into things like action figures, credit cards, etc. It works the same way as those credit cards with RFID chips that enable features like Touch to Pay and such. The chips can store a small amount of data, and the GamePad and a reader/writer built into it that can talk to these RFID chips.

Uh..no they haven't. They haven't shown how gameplay online will look. If it isn't at least as good as XBL then I'll buy 360 versions of multiplats with online multiplayer.

We here at Nintendo want to solve the problem of "Alone Together". This is a problem about people who are in the same room but are looking at their own personal screens rather than interacting with each other.

To do so, we've invented a controller that has its own screen, so that you can play your video game while somebody else in the same room watches a different program on the television!

So yeah, really liked the video. They're definitely going to regret having a hand drawing system implemented into the instant messaging, though, lol.

Ooooh, like the tech in the Spyro toys. *cries*

He was talking about two screens. As in the TV screen and the controller's screen. He never said two controllers, unfortunately.

*cries moar*

We haven't seen the full online so I'm not going to say it beats anything. That being said it's a big step up and as long as I can just play my games online I'm good to go. In this regard these extra features seem cool and since that's all I really need is just online play that makes it better than PSN.

Xbox Live is still probably going to continue to be the most feature rich of the platforms though. I won't deny that. I don't need all of those extra features though, and I don't like the pay wall. So for me personally the Wii-U should be perfect for me.

Even if it's one, I think the Pro Controller should sort that out nicely. I'm curious if Classic Controller Pros will still be supported, though; I guess the lack of clicking sticks could be problematic.

I honestly feel as though people are putting too much stock in the idea of multiple people requiring access to the touchscreen in local multiplayer modes.

They're on the right track, anyway. Miiverse and the social networking features are huge. Of course until the account system and network infrastructure are understood, we can't be sure whose online is "better".

Very nice presentation by Nintendo. I'm hoping there will be more and even better surprises at E3.

Regarding that skit they did... I'm surprised they used it for the Japanese stream. Even for me, it felt kind of weird.

I'm reading the "Alone Together" book Iwata mentioned, and I see what's the dude planning (nothing more than a circlejerk for discussing on games enveloped as a service... at the moment).
