No Man's Sky - Atlas Rises |OT| Nada, Polo and you no longer fly solo

Pretty sure I broke the weapons base quest.

The one where he tells you to kill sentinels in space. Went to space on accident, boosted back to the planet, they followed me to the surface, I hid in my base, they wouldn't leave, so I warped and then warped back.

They were gone but now I can't figure out how to trigger them to come back again.

I'm not familiar with that quest, but spawning sentinels in space is usually done by opening fire on freighters or the space station.

Man, that 80 million for the freighter is gonna take a while...

I have no idea how youre supposed to make real money, Im always hovering around 100-200k, and then I buy a new ship inventory slot, and down I go.

Some sidequests give 50k which isnt bad i guess, but all the "special items" I find are only worth like 10k and shit.

Has anyone tried the automated mining units since 1.3?

I remember they used to be rubbish, but I don't know if they've beefed then up at all.

Got the blueprint for unstable gel through that science research questline. Thought no biggie at first. Then I looked at its value (80,000 units). Then I realized my home planet was an entire desert environment full of the cacti needed to craft it. Just crafted 10 of them and made 800,000 units.

Now taking long walks through the desert looking for more of of this plant that grows money. And I can just teleport back to the planet any time I need more money. On a planet that has no hazards save for the occasional storm. Imma be rich.

Ah, perhaps mine was bugged then. I built two, one inside my base and one outside my base, and the outside one didn't refund my resources.
Well, the key here might be the number two! I only had one active pad this way. Worth checking out maybe.

Where am I supposed to find the armorer for the base building quest? I'm supposedly in the right system but I see "!" where I am on the galactic map but not when I look around in free space (and it's not any of the Vy'keen at the space port).

I have a glitched subquest.

I'm supposed to be delivering an Ion Sphere. But it always says the location is 'in another system'.

If I put the Ion Sphere in one of my base containers, it pops up with the delivery icon over a nearby trading post. However when I pick up the ion sphere, or even buy an new one, that waypoint disappears and it says the destination 'is in another system' once more.

Any ideas. Or any way I can ditch this subquest. I don't need it. It's just annoying.

Your best bet is to just reload the prior save (available in the Options menu).

You can hire a Vy'keen armorer at most space stations, it doesn't matter which one. They'll be hanging out in the area with the trade terminal.

Not yet, but it's worth saying IMO that the strength of AMUs is at your base -- just like a farm.

I had a whole bunch on an Elerium deposit that was a few feet from my base, and basically every time I ported back to my base was a free few hundred Elerium. Over a few weeks of playing it added up to quite a few million units worth of Elerium that, once set up, had very little 'cost' other than the few minutes it took to talk a few feet to empty them and sell them.

If anything, I'm worried they're worse now because they now have a maintenance fuel cost and if you sell them regularly you'll cause Elerium prices in your system to crash. So, you'll probably need to stock them up somewhere and try sell them weekly in single batches.

Farming has been the key to making money quickly since base-building was introduced, though the specific materials get changed with each update to prevent crafting loops that are too OP (in 1.1, with a base solely dedicated to farming Mordite to craft Lubricant you could clear 30 million credits per hour). I'm still not sure what the best cash crop is based on how fast it grows and what constructed material is worth the most, but Circuit Boards sell for 2 million and require components which can be grown in your base, so that's a possibility. The harvests are slower now (30 or 60 minutes as compared to 6-18 before), so you can do some missions, run back and craft things, and then do some more missions again between harvests. Look through your crafting blueprints to see which items sell for the most and are made from growable crops; that's your ticket to massive wealth.

not sure if it's something related directly to creative mode but going to the center of the 1st galaxy (Euclid) the old fashion way without using the atlas quest brings you back to the edge of the Euclid galaxy again when in creative mode

On the bright side, you can now easily teleport back to near the center again with portals

Handful of new screenshots I took last few days (og PS4). In particular, the best 'lava planet' I've found yet made me stop pretty often to take pics.
That last one is another 'desert' with canyons and water in them that sort of looks like rivers, different planet than the one I found and posted shots of on the weekend.
Seems like the sort of 'river canyon' is a new geography characteristic that can spawn on dry planet biomes (not cactus deserts, mind you, because the new one was a Fiery Planet with Solanium, not Cactus Flesh) because I think I've seen 3 planets with really long skinny canyons (as in, reaching past the horizon) that had [idle] water in them in a way that sort of looked like rivers (closest thing NMS has to it at least).

Also, don't want post too many at once (especially since I think a lot of us have seen yellow ships that in the right light look gold), but I found a yellow Hauler that sure looked a touch gold haha my first thought was, "Is this the NMS equivelent of a GTA 5 gold Dubsta?" :p

I saw those canyons way back. They may have fiddled with the frequency, but they've always been there

Is anyone on base PS4 having performance issues? Menus especially really really lag sometimes and I can hear my fan spin up with the trading UI. I'm wondering if it has to do with the depth of field it does in the background.

In general my fan seems to spin higher in 1.3, and turning off the framerate lock pretty much puts it into jet engine mode. I know PC and PS4 Pro are having perf problems and wondering if this is a cross-platform issue, or if my PS4 is not in great shape.

i've noticed a lot of dropped frames on planets where a ton of animals spawn and whenever I use the terrain modifier tool. Haven't really noticed the lag within the UI though on my ps4

but all the options on my teleporter arent where the mission objective is. Anyone has any tip?

So many bugs. I never built a base before this update and have so many bugs that have stopped my progress. The construction guy says nothing when I go to him. The vehicle guy wants me to build a nomad pad that I already have and am afraid building a new one won't fix it, and lastly the science guy gave me blueprints for an auto miner that is nowhere to be found in my technology tabs or anywhere else I can find..... at this point I think I'm gonna just wait for a patch.

I have the same problem. It also seems like the issue it getting worse with time and saving takes longer and causes a huge lag in menus.

That planet is awesome! Honestly while I'm still very impressed and intrigued by the generation in NMS, I do think the game is still pretty ugly a lot of the time, but this update is definitely improving things a noticeable amount and that's really cool. Hope they keep on improving it. I wonder when they're going to bring in their cloud overhaul they talked about a while ago but I think that would add a lot.

I will update it once new mods are released. I have tested them all together but not extensively because the NMS world is so big! There is no guarantee they will perfectly for everyone all the time.

Performance Tips:

This is my config file for 60fps+ stutter-free Vanilla NMS at 1440p on a mid-to-high end PC (old overclocked i7, 16Gb slow DDR, 1070 GTX overclocked). Also, in Nvidia I have Prefer Maximum Performance and set Frame Rate Limiter to 90. Even with all these mods installed the game is still playable at worst. Base building limit tweaks are optional and can make base building buggy. BACKUP YOUR SAVE GAME AND CURRENT CONFIG FILES FIRST.

So everywhere I go odd white waypoints are getting placed over random points of interest, over shelters, buildings, objectives. They don't disappear either, I have to quit the game for them to go away, they'll show up on planets I've left, it's really unattractive, the icon looks blown up to big and a little pixalated. This a known bug? It's distracting as hell.

That happens when you scan a building with your visor. It's not a bug, just a poorly implemented feature, since as you say there's no way to undo the POI shoutout once you scan.

I get that too, must be a bug as the icon looks the wrong resolution/size to be legit and mine are just stuck over random nothing.

Also, just to get away from the continuous big reports, something positive; I'd forgotten how much I enjoy the writing in this game, it reminds me of the text adventure stuff I used to play when I was a boy. It's just simple paragraphs but it really fires my imagination.

I hope, and assume, the next update will address fauna and flora variety, which I don't think was changed much in this update. Certainly the way fauna spaws is much improved, but what spawns doesn't seem to be.

I don't know if they'll ever do this, but it would also be nice to have more than the around 5 basic resources per planet. (Plutonium, Iron, etc)

There have been some new fauna right? (Aside from all the techy stuff, bubbles, and those weird rock objects, if that counts) I thought I've been seeing a couple new things in screenshots.

edit: Oops my bad I got flora and fuana mixed up

What are these Gravatino balls used for I picked up like 7 of them . I remember back in the day they used to be worth a lot of money now...not so much. Should I keep them?

<Tons of great modding information>

Thanks for this. I had some of these installed in earlier builds (the chromatic aberration removal and fast actions are an absolute godsend), but I haven't gotten around to reinstalling mods in 1.3 yet. I'll have to check out some of the additional mods and tweaks as well. I notice you using TAA; do you find it makes textures blurry? I tried it earlier against FXAA and I actually preferred texture quality with FXAA. Blurriness bothers me more than shimmering AA lines, personally. Is the performance comparable?

Always save at least a few of resources like that. In my experience, quest givers will ask you for rare items occasionally, so it's nice if you already have some onhand.

If you're thinking of base building now or later you'll need
one to get the blueprint for making the landing pad as part of the overseer quest.
, may be worth keeping hold of a stack (its reasonably cheap to create a storage container by your base).

Just tested it:

FXAA+DSR - Lots of shimmering
TAA (low)+DSR+LumaSharpen - A lot less shimmering
TAA (high)+DSR+LumaSHarpen - Minimal shimmering

FXAA would probably yield better fps but to me it looks crap in this game.

I forgot to mention that I dropped Shadows from Ultra to High to save a few fps. Using my ReShade contrast tweak there's not enough difference between the 2 unless you're focusing on taking pretty screenshots.

I finally put some time into the game after waiting for the patch and I'm enjoying my time more than I anticipated. However there are times where I've been a bit confused as to what does what in the UI do that post is a great help.

My first planet is a smouldering one, but at 40c ish is still full of life and interesting stuff. Got my ship working, got myself a gun and going to explore properly soon.

Will take any screenshot that looks nice too as the photo mode is pretty decent too.

I can't believe I'm getting sucked into this game for the third time.

I'm so glad NMS doesn't have some sort of redstone mechanic. I lost a good 2 years of my life obsessing over that and IndustrialCraft in Minecraft.

I flew around all night hunting down a new ship, found an S class and was all excited, but it only had like 7 slots, and the pos wanted 1.5mil to unlock one of these slots. Sooo I hunted more and after like 30 ships found this big ugly haggard flying boat with shipping containers that was worth almost 12mil for trade in, now to find a decent trade at a space station lol
