Does anything drop a dimensional matrix? I seem to be having some problems finding one these days, and don't seem to have a schematic.

I occasionally get them from shooting down sentinel drones.
Also sometimes in the shop.

Edit:
Or was it the dogs?

Ah, was it the dogs? I thought the Neutrino modules were coming from them. k, thx.

Cool picture above btw.

So I decided to start over. Left the first planet and got the signal tower when scanning in space. I go to the planet and it turns out to be completely barren of life. It's half land, half water. So I find the tower and it points to the outpost that will have the hyperdrive.

I get in my ship and head towards the marker. Which happens to be under water. Wtf. Fortunately the icon wasn't far from land so I hop in the water. I'm not seeing any buildings here, but I decide to go to the marker anyway. When I reach it, I get a message saying objective complete, and I get the blueprint for the hyperdrive.

I guess it was just floating in the water or something. Lol. So odd. Last time I played an alien gave it to me.

Btw, blueprints for the multi tool seem to come in a more organized manner or I'm getting lucky. I have been getting the sigma ones and other more simple blueprints early instead of getting random theta ones at times.

Sentinel dogs. Regular sentinels drop Neutrino modules.
You can buy it, too.

Did you achieve that by taking a shot at the right moment when pressing options?

When you exit the inventory (so touchpad) you can see that for a split second there's no HUD on screen. So basically, you just need to time it right. Not ideal, but at least it's something. Just takes a bit of practice. It's pretty much pressing touchpad then share (assuming you set it on easy screenshot mode of course) like, extremely quickly. Not quite at the same time, but not too far from it.

Sounds like the other way is easier though.

Go to pause menu (options) if you want to take a screenshot. Then press share and options buttons simultaneously. Also prevents the game from running in the background so you can time shots better.

So I've been on an extended hiatus from the game; just taking the time to play other things because NMS is such a huge time sink. I've also been so worn out from all the drama it's made me not want to think about the game for a while.

But I gotta ask, for those playing on PS4, have the recent patches made things significantly better, slightly better, sort of the same, or worse? What version is it up to?

PS4 is at version 1.07 .. several bug fixes all around were done in those patches.
Planet generation is a little bit faster with landmasses

0% fauna planets upload bug was fixed. Gek tower bug was fixed

Currently version 1.07. It's significantly better. My game went from crashing multiple times per session to not crashing at all. My last crash was several days ago; can't remember whether that was just before or just after the most recent patch.

UPDATE: Experimental Branch
Objectives and stuck without Hyper-drive Issues
  • Player no longer able to redeem your pre-order ship at a point which would then prevent you learning the hyper-drive blueprint (and if you have done this, we save you).
  • Player no longer able to bypass being sent to find hyper-drive tech by reloading a save in game at a very specific point.

Getting Stuck in the world
  • Fixed a couple of low repro bugs that could result in you falling through the world and getting stuck underground.
  • A raycast in some space stations could hit a very specific point that would put the player inside the floor.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause your ship to be thrown in the sky at high speed when taking off (in rare cases could in turn lead to getting stuck).
  • Fixed an issue that would cause your ship to get stuck in terrain and prevent you from taking off, if the player managed to out run generation of terrain LOD 1, and land inside an overhang.

Gameplay
  • Some players were unable to achieve the extreme survival journey milestone, this has been resolved.
  • Fixed an issue where some players had some technology types being reported as "already known" when they weren't actually known.
  • Under some circumstances a message was sometimes misinforming you that you learnt a blueprint when you hadn't, this has been fixed now.
  • It was possible you could use up all available slots for waypoints on the galaxy map and be unable to set new waypoints. This is much better now.
  • There was a bug that could cause objective markers to disappear when you loaded a previous save. This is fixed now.
  • Fixed a rare issue when scanning creatures that would cause all planets to show as 100% complete even if you had only completed one.

Save / Load
  • Fixed a bug what could cause some corrupt save games to not be loaded, this is now fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where saves made with the system clock set in the future could cause problems.

Crash Fixes
  • Fixed a crash that would sometimes happen when warping into a system with a space battle in progress.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when interacting with an NPC.

Tweaks and Improvements
  • It is now easier to scan flying creatures.
  • Fixed height and weight stats being the wrong way around for creatures.
  • Gek towers can no longer be interacted with repeatedly.
  • The 'You have unredeemed items' message will now only show for the first 5 minutes.
  • Fixed getting 0% charge on Photon Cannon when buying a new ship and constantly being prompted to charge it.
  • Reduce Suit VO for life support warnings and only do life support VO on 25% and 50%.
  • Fixed grave being transferred to the new star system after you warp.
  • Fixed toxic protection 3 (theta) from having the wrong name.
  • Fixed incorrect marking of sea caves under floating islands.
  • Turning down music and SFX volume in the options will now work correctly (mutes the VO also).
  • If you change ship or multi-tool and then revert to previous save the ship should now be the one you had at the time.
  • Atlas station collision improvements to prevent you from bumping into them too much.
  • Fix for the stars not being discarded during load/warp (causing duplicate stars).

PC Only Issues
  • Editing the settings file and corrupting it could cause the game to crash. Instead of crashing it will now revert back to the default settings.
  • The inventory screen now works correctly regardless of resolution.
  • Added error message for older CPUs without SSE3 support.
  • Synchronise frame capping with the first vsync (removes some framerate issues).
  • Added steam id to login call to help track down some login issues.
  • Fixed the X key size on the galaxy map.
  • If you press Tab+P in quick succession, the game paused and didn't let you out of it.
  • Fixed a performance issue by defaulting your texture resolution to a sensible value based on available GPU memory.

If you play while having breakfast, and warp to a blue star system with 3 Atlas Stones AND 87 pieces of chrysonite in your inventory, Sean Murray pops out for real out of your PS4 and pisses in your cereal bowl.

Just making fun of both the "let's make new shit up to trash the game" and "there must be a super secret way to do X" crowds. Anyway, a lot of stuff has been said about the game. A good chunk of it is complete BS.

Things are still a bit hit and miss, so there's definitely a variable here, in terms of performace (crashes and LOD issues, most notably).

It seems you get the blueprints in a specific order now for the multitool at least. Restarted the game twice last night and got the upgrades in I believe the same order. I don't recall this being the case at release as I was getting a jumbled mess of blueprints.(and many that said I already owned it.)

I hope the extreme survival isn't broken. I want to get the platinum eventually. :(

After around 30 hours I finally got an Atlas Pass. Opened up my first space station door to find...an Exosuit upgrade, which I have long since maxed out. Ah well. At least I'll be able to open all those damn containers I've had to leave behind on planets.

So, as you may know, I'm currently trying to see if going to a specific point in the galaxy - any point - is actually possible (without using the waypoints systems), and how hard it is.
TheCochese gave me his system's "coordinates", and so I started my journey last night.

I fumbled a few times at the beginning, probably wasting half an hour or so in the end, trying to get my bearings right. About 1.5h in, I also realized that it would likely take me less time to go to the center, from where I was. Still, I'm determined to do this.

I'm obviously not quite there yet, but I've made good progress. I lost track of the precise count of warps I've made so far. It's well over 100 for sure. My count is at 243 now (was a bit over 100 before I started this madness).

Anyway, I've been taking some screens along the way, here are a few of them (fairly uncommon little fellas - at least for me so far)

Hmmm. Space Steaks.

That... thing was one the next planet.

And a couple planets later... Wtfiswrongwithyourfaces land.

This post makes me concerned about time time sink to achieve things in the game... can someone clarify for me? What are the average playtimes to do these things?

- Atlas Pass
- Reach Center
- anything else to note?

Technically no they don't. It is more or less updating voxel types and position. Would look silly in nms

Huh, cool, how does that work in terms of one block becoming lots of others out into dynamic shapes (i.e. one 'block' creating a stream of 12 blocks going around corners and down slopes)? I don't know how voxel technology works but surely a dynamic stream of blocks can't just be one voxel?

Agreed re silliness.

Sucks that Atlas systems are mostly devoid of anything interesting outside of the station itself. Ended up on 4 mostly dead planets and one with at least some life to be found. I also happened into an Atlas system already discovered by another player.

Well, for my part, the Atlas Pass would probably have happened a lot sooner had I been more focused on it. I spent about 18 hours on my second planet, running around maxing out my suit slots and finding crashed ships to get the max ship slots. I'm also 99.99% sure I missed an earlier opportunity to get the Atlas Pass, which is why it took me so long. Fairly certain that with the ship I have I could probably reach the Center pretty quickly at this point.

Haven't been to the center yet but Atlas Pass v2&3
you can get them by activating the orange-beam antennas with Bypass-Chips, select Colonial Outpost and get a marker to either a Manufacturing Facility or an Operations Center, the latter ones will eventually give you an Atlas Pass if you chose the right answer, I spent 10 chips each planet, got lvl 2&3 in like 1 hour, also lvl1 Pass Blueprint is given to you by Nada/Polo inside a Space Anomaly iirc

First Atlas pass didn't take too long to get. Game guides you to warp drive early on, then suggests a path to Atlas stuff shortly after. At least it felt like that to me. If I had to guess the time it took me, I'd probably say 5-10 hours? Most of which was from just getting used to the game. Could be a lot more if you were more into the exploration though.

Once you get the Atlas pass though, it gets way easier (really minor spoilers for what you get from having v1 pass)
to get fuel to travel around with, and to get extra Exosuit item slots.

Center of the galaxy... I'm not there yet, but it seems like it'll take a while. I have a lvl1 warp upgrade, and I can only jump like 100ish ly closer to the center at a time. Jumping in a black hole gives me more distance, but I'm not quite sure how they work yet. Right now each is giving me ~1000 closer to center, and seem to be putting me close enough to reach another. So at the moment I'm getting about 1000 per hour (if I were hurrying, which I'm not). Started off with like 40k to center, at 36k now. I've heard the Lvl2 or lvl3 warp upgrade gets you like 1600 ly per jump.

I usually get dimensional matrix, outside of buying them, from destroying sentinel starships or deconstructing a crashed ship's upgrades.

Well, that's broken my Pacifism playthrough :D
Got my 48 slot ship and was off to a new planet when i found a beacon which sent me to another crashed ship. A nice 48 slot MIG looking thing with the loop engine cowling so i swapped it, decided it was a "Keeper" and upgraded the Shields, Pulse Engine, Cannon and a Warp upgrade. V.Nice to finally have a ship that isn't a clunker.

Take off and head towards my next moon when i get the Pirate warning. Now, i remembered the dogfight tips this time and slammed on reverse thrusters and sure enough "pop pop pop pop pop" there's 5 Pirates in front of me in a tidy little line. I give 'em the beans with my newly upgraded Cannon and rekt 'em! \0/ Simples.

Land on the moon and it's my first Vortex Cubeworld, pick one up and yeah, 3 Stars so i end up shooting 3 Sentinels before the alarm deactivated just as i got to a cave... Full of Vortex Cubes awwwww yisssss! Totally worth it.

By the time you get to this system I may have maxed out my ship finally. Went from 24-32 since you started.

Ok, I refined my system of naming planets and star systems a bit more. I'll post it here in case anyone ever stumbles into star systems discovered by SolidusDave and wants to know about the nomenclature. Or maybe someone wants to even adapt it. ...And mostly for me so that I can keep track of my path in the game :D

Listing all the variables is basically a spoiler so be aware of that.

Planets
Example: Shiva [C'E4f_D11mxEmP]

I use the brackets so that the identifier doesn't clash so much with the name. Also, [...] is for planets while {...} identifies a moon.

Shiva = Name of the planet
C = cold (H = hot, R = radiation, T = toxic, N = normal, M = mixed, happened once so far that a planet switched between too cold and too hot). Note that there are variations within (acidic and alkali rains = both toxic etc.)
' = liquid water present as lakes etc (" = oceans / large parts of the surface covered)
E = only added when it's an extreme environment (L = low atmosphere, i.e. you will see the stars and the sun at the same time with a high drain on life support). A lowercase e is used for extreme conditions (red text) that are not part of the extreme weather stat (e.g. constant extreme rain or wind).
4 = 0-9 scale for Flora (0 = none, note that the game will still add some plants as carbon sources...). This has to be guesstimated from what the game tells you (frequent, full, deficient etc.). 7/8/9 are usually thick forests.
f = fields, this is only added when most of the surface is covered in grass (I highlight this because it seems rather rare and makes them look lush and pretty).
_ = standard or low security Sentinel level (imo there is no practical difference) (- = more aggressive/active, / = hostile, . = none/passive/low)
D = Danger, added if there are a lot of attacking animals and in large numbers
11 = 0-15 scale for Fauna, it's the number of species you have to detect to 100% the planet.
m = mid-level frequency of animals appearing (r = rare, h = high). This has to be guesstimated based on what the game tells you about the planet (left out if no fauna at all).
x = if there is a very cool/big/unusual animal to see (highly subjective of course and obviously depends on if you have seen it while on there). When renaming that animal I add a [x] to its name btw.
Em = Emeril (Element code of the seemingly most abundant non-standard element on the planet, not listed are Fe, Zn, Ti, Hr, Pt, C, Th, Pu). Sometimes I will prefer to put the element that is available as crystals or not already on another planet in that system.
P = Albumen Pearl (G = Gravitino Ball, V = Vortex Cube, S = Sac Venom, A = AquaSphere)

I chose the symbols so that I don't have to go into the symbols part of the PS4 virtual keyboard and can write the code faster.

Star Systems
Example: First Contact [Y3AuChEmGPfx0_K]

First Contact = name of the star system
Y = Yellow F/G star systems, the color/temperature of the star (R = Red M/K star systems, G = Green E star systems, B = Blue O/B star systems)
3 = number of planets (becomes relevant when it's e.g. an Atlas system as then the game won't tell you the number of planets)
AuChEm = Element code of every most obvious to find non-standard element of each planet/moon.
GP = all items to find (G = Gravitino Ball, P = Albumen Pearl, V = Vortex Cube, S = Sac Venom, A = AquaSphere)
f = if at least one planet is covered in grassy fields
x = if one of the planets has a truly unusual animal on it (highly subjective I know)
0 = number of moons
_ = Atlas Station (. = Black Hole, - = Anomaly with our two friendly aliens). Not that Anomalies are player specific I think, so this is just for documentation.
K = Korvax controlled system (G = Gek, V = Vy'keen)
