NVIDIA releases DOOM PC footage of the game running w/ the Vulkan API - 1080p@60fps

So I'm under the impression that with a 970 and vulkan 1080p with 60fps should be a walk in the park?

I would think so. At this point I don't see much point in even posting a video like that since you won't need a top end card to run 1080p @ 60 fps. Color me impressed when you get 4K @ 60 fps.

That said, the game looks a lot better nowadays. I'm also in the "waiting for impressions" club for now. Weapons seem nice and beefy, especially that dual barreled shotgun was the best gun in Doom 2 so glad to see it's back.

I love the graphics style of this new DOOM, so awesome! I can't wait to play it tomorrow, even if I've to play on an X1, but in near future I've to buy a new PC to work ancd obviously I'll buy one with GTX 1080, so I'll experience some awesome gaming too.

Id certainly know how to optimise their code. That's at least one legacy that Carmack left the team when he left.

Well it helps when Tiago Sousa is one of the lead programmers on your team as well. Not that I doubt the technical abilities of the whole team.

I haven't seen this mentioned itt except once on the last page where it went unnoticed.

1: this shows that the movement really is faster and it's not just the FOV like others were trying to say.

2: potentially we all got way ahead of ourselves here, because if this speed is only indicative of a fully 'upgraded' and specialised into speed character (ugh rpg elements in fps games, just do away with that shit already) you might still have to spend the first 50-70 percent of the game with the potato speed and potato gameplay from those other gameplay videos and trailers.

If we can't give ourselves all the movement speed perks and runes and w/e from the start of the game (through console commands or something) then I will never play this
.

Don't see why not, hopefully id will let you use the console commands if you want to play the whole game from the start at super fast speed.

You could probably tweet Tiago and ask him directly as he seems quite responsive to folks, I don't have twitter so I can't do it myself.

Tiago has done a great job, but John really laid down the framework for the future, and is a big proponent of static analysis and const correctness, which make frameworks stable and behaviour of code predictable. Standing on the shoulders of giants, of which Tiago is one himself, not to lessen his contributions.

Oh absolutely :)

Licorice-flavoured booze?
I'm a bit confused, so the thread title is stating the video res and fps or the in game-res and fps?

I would of thought the Titan X got a lot higher FPS with Vulkan API.

Well, if you are recording a video for youtube, you want the encode to match the fps lock. So locking @ 60 makes sense.

It probably goes higher than 60 on those settings in the video. I am curious about "nightmare utlra" and what that entails...

I doubt I can get this any time this year. My PC gfx just isn't up for it and It would be a shame to get it on PS4 unless there was a keyboard/mouse option and it was as fast.

Its a realy powerfull graphicscard but why does he jump around like an ape?

This is how you play old skool ID games.. You run/jump like a mad thing while still trying to kill stuff.

Huh, that actually looks like a lot of fun. Levels still look a bit too linear though, doom always had a kind of find your way/ labyrinth thing going on that seems to be missing from this gameplay. Will keep an eye out for impressions though.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Looks lovely. Except for the QTE melee kills, which are bafflingly awful in how they stall the momentum and flow of play for a repetitious, scripted animation kill. If it's locked to the chainsaw I can see myself never using it. That being said, watching mouse + keyboard play is leagues away from a pad and really sells the game.

This kid of stuff should have been shown earlier, in my opinion.

Damn, that looks awesome and all those particle effects too! I'm going to have to get this now and also get better at using a KB and M :/

This is exactly how it played for me on PC during the Beta. Cranking up that FOV, sensitivity and bunny-hopping around everywhere is all it takes to play like this.

Warning: The Console version plays at half this speed, at best.
Why 1080p?
Most people who are going to splash out on a 1080 won't be running at 1080, show me the figures for 4k!

even so, i expect my Nano can do that, let alone the latest and greatest Nvidia card
The 1080 can run it at more than 60fps at 1080p. Uncapped it hovers around 110fps.
The Titan X can do the job at 60fps but we don't know what happens when the framerate uncapped.

I just find it a bit odd to come out and say, look our newest card thats designed to blow everything away can do 1080p60, it should be a given surely.

No.

Max settings can always tax new cards, even at 1080p.

If you think a 1080 should crush everything at 1080p you are ignoring context and how demanding 60fps with max settings can be.

I played the beta with my FOV jacked up and with a mouse. This simply looks faster. I wonder if they gave the game a speed bump?

I'm really looking forward to playing this tonight, but yeah, hopefully there's at least a console command for the weapon models.

I swore I saw something about co-op gameplay because I remember thinking this would be fun to play with my dad.

How much of a performance boost are we talking here?

And how would one go about enableing Vulkan? Also is it already going to be useable when the game comes out in a few hours?

I guess if a GTX1080 can achieve that high of a framerate then my old ass GTX780 should atleast manage somewhere around 60.

Vulkan is supposed to be patched in quickly after launch.
