Awww man I found some downtown somewhere... <trying to remember>
the place where you have the first gang war, I believe they are in the one of the corners of that park.

Try in the cemetery.

Yesterday, I did the coolest thing yet.

I was working on my sawed-off shotgun skill, so I was running around blowing peoples' heads off and being a general nuisance until the cops killed me.

Running from the police choppers, and knowing that they'll follow you up to the top of the skyscraper, I got it into my head to see if their rotor blades can kill.

So I got my wanted level up to four stars, lured the choppers in front of the skyscraper entrance, and went inside.

On the roof, I snagged the parachute, then ran to the corner of the building where the entrance was. Far below me, I could see the one of the choppers slowly rising upward. Perfect.

So I jumped, fell for a bit, then pulled the cord. I made a few minor attitude adjustments as the chopper rose to meet me.

And I landed clean right on the damn thing, right behind the rotor. Turns out the blades don't do anything to you.

At this point, I had to pause the game because I was jumping up and down and screaming.

Somehow the chopper was still managing to shoot upwards through it's body at me, and the second chopper was also shooting at me, so they killed me before I could unload enough ammo into the one I was standing on to make it explode. But god damn, that was a hell of a rush.

So now I'm determined to somehow get on top of a flying plane. Wish me luck. :p

In that "Youve had your chips mission" I actually left the factory in the middle of the fight, got my health back by eating at the nearby store, then returned.

I am pretty sure the enemies just respawn forever.
No, there's a limited amount. I thought the same thing you did - after getting killed on 3 different attempts - on my 4th I just hid, popped up and shot, and hid until nobody else showed up. Then I just casually strolled out and went back to the casino.

On a side note, the more you fly, the easier it becomes. It's like 2nd nature now, diving and swooping around the desert before dropping a perfect landing. :D :D :D So much fun.

This game just keeps getting better and better. I think I'm about to enter the city of Las Venturas in the next few missions.

And you guys where bullshitting about Supply Lines... I did it in 5 tries but jesus was it intense. The hardest mission I've played thus far.

Yea, I fly whenever I go anywhere now. Well anywhere that has more distance than the red dragon save point and the abandond air field save point.

I'm all about flying the commercial jets now... I just wish my airfield hanger was big enough to keep it.

There's one at the Las Venturas airport for sure, maybe one at San Fierro as well. Very few things are cooler than landing a 747 in the middle of a highway, jumping out (clad in gimp suit) and walking toward the camera slo-mo style as cars smash into the plane and explosions fill the screen. Orgasmic? Yes, I do believe so :D :D :D

Another fun GTA story:

I'm at 99% progress with Denise, and I tool around waiting for date time to come, and I get there, and she wants to go racing on the street. She also wants to do a drive by. Whatever. So I'm going along, I get bored and join in with her, and as soon as I fire one shot I end up gas tanking a car, it blows up, and blows us up too. >_<

I love how random shit can go down in this game. So close to real life it's scary

So many small nuggets of randomly generated fun. Woman bitches at me to get out of the way when I walk in front of her stationary, waiting at lights, 4x4. In the process of jacking the car she's thrown out of the way, onto tram lines, a split second later while still prone, SPLAT! As a tram whizzes by. That'll teach PMT NPCs to fuck with me, hah.

This one, sadly, is up to pure luck. Months of playing Vice City has made me good with the aimable weapons, but it's impossible to track 3+ bombs and targets at once. Just be accurate enough to survive the time limit and for God's sakes, don't start the mission at night
Thanks, when I finally got the timer down to zero I thought it was one of my poorer efforts :p I found the infamous Supply Lines... to be far easier (maybe because I'd done the flying lessons).

I just found the street races at Los Santos. HOW the fuck are you supposed to drive a NRG-500? As soon as I hit the gas I had to jam forward on the analogue to keep from falling backwards off the bike. Way too much torque-I kept losing the "small loop" race because my bike would turn into a Shamal on the hills

Never seen one in SF or LV. All I see are Dodos and Shamals in LV...

you gotta walk up to the big hangers.

Hint:

It's inside the hanger.

Yeah, found it now... I'm too impatient, I keep walking away before the hangar starts to open :p

How long does it take for the hangar to open? I stood at the brown doors for like 10 seconds and nothing happened

Which region is the best for doing Ambulance and Firefighter missions?
I did the ambulance missions in that little hick town above Las Santos that has a hospital in it; it was pretty easy. The fire fighting missions are all about being good with the hose - don't think it really matters where you do them.

By the way, has anyone found an easy way of doing Vigilante?

I used the cop motorcycle, and did it in LV. Armed with the Uzi (50 rounds) and I tried aiming for the gas tank since it was pretty much and instant kill. I also marked on the map a bribe token and would shuttle there every few rounds.

About 10-15 seconds sounds right.

Found it right after I posted, sorry. The jumbo jet covers ground so fast the HUD map can't even finish loading when you move away from a city :lol

Hard to land though...tried to land it in SF (from LV) and missed the runway completely. I kinda wish they had slowed its speed down to compensate for how much of the game play area it needs to slow and touch down on the tarmac

I dont care what anyone says, flying fuckin sucks ass in this game.

Flying gets easier after flight school (as doing everything fills the bar up from 0 to like 90%) but many of the planes are just unwieldly. You got planes like the beagle and shamal that handle like a dream but are a bitch to land unless you circle the cities a lot because they're too fast, and all of the light planes like the dodo and rustler are just total suck.

I don't know, I've gotten used to the stuntplane... is that the Rustler? And now that made flying everything easier, including the RC plane. Love the helicopters as well.

Where's the harrier jet located at in Las Venturas? Inside the military base right? Where is that?

It's not shown on the map that came with the game?

Can you buy or collect multiple parachutes? It would be annoying to have to go find an individual one each time...

Here's the weird thing about that. I've jumped out of a plane/helicopter several times with no parachute in my inventory but whenever I jump out I suddenly have it. So I think its always with you.

I like the flying, not hard for me at all. Sky odyssey and Ace Combat are two of my favorite games. Sky Odyssey is like the ninja gaiden (hard mode) of flight games I think. It's there just for the challenge and every flight mission/test in this game is cake walk compared to it (model planes are void from this quote ; ;).

To be honest, I'm surprised anyone can have trouble with the flying in the game. Compared to any actual flight sim, the flying is DEAD EASY and very forgiving. Sure, it's not like jumping in a car and tooling around, but it's not supposed to be, it's harder to fly than anything else and that's the way it should be.

That's hilarious about the parachutes though. All this time I had been flying to that abandoned village and then landing on that ramp to pick up the chute so I'd be able to bail out when I buzzed a restricted area and the jets came for me. :lol Landing the jets there is tough too.

Can you shoot down the jets? I had a titanic 5 minute battle with the WW2 fighter (looks like a spitfire to me) but no matter how many times I got behind him and shot at him (no aiming reticle) it never seemed to hurt him. Then I drifted over the restricted area again and the SAMs got me, and I was gunned down like a dog in my chute. Helicopter above me, FBI below elbowing each other out of the way in order to tag me, I didn't even make it to the ground. :D

calder: have you tried using the lock-on missile launcher? You can get one in Las Venturas, in the parking lot next to the chip factory

the 12th stage of the driving school (city slicking) is so damn hard :( Cant beat that... or the second mission for Zero. I killed 3 couriers but havent been able to do better yet... controls on the little plane are so damn awful. :(

I just got done shooting down those helicopters while protecting the helicopter out in the desert, then picked up the supply and put it in the garage. How much do I have left to beat the game?

Doing flight school (and the almost 90% boost in flight experience that you get from finishing it) helps, but finishing the mission is still a crapshoot no matter how well you fly. Don't sweat it, or cheat if it's driving you nuts

Don't you guys slow down (Square) before heading in for a landing? Makes a big difference. :p

Pro Tip No. 2: Lower the landing gear as well!

Just wondering how far I am. A Simple "Got a ways to go" or "Almost there" would help.

okay I just...

got a call from Rosenberg that the Salvatore has taken over Caligula's Palace

Argh, I never wanted to rush through a GTA Game but I'm over all the functionality in this. I love the story so I'm sticking to it. Although a part of me wants this to end due to the remaining onslought of games coming/came out this month..

Thanks tho..

I've skipped most of the thread, so if I repeat, I apologize.

You can max your money super early in the game, at the betting place under the Mullholland interchange thinger. Just go in, pick the horse with the worst odds, bet max, and watch. If it wins, go save and repeat. If it losts, reload and repeat.

Nice :)

Bleh. A pretty big part of the game for me has been the reward of making money. Or the ever-present thought that I only have so much of it. You're only taking away from the experience, imo.

While continually failing on Farewell My Love, I was trying to uncover all of the map and I found a horseshoe while dashing through a tunnel trying to stay alive in Las Venturas.

Following this I then went to the horses and won ~5 million by betting all or nothing on Dundee Ned then the same on Scotland's Shite.

The final mission's title (in the main storyline) is really clear. BTW, the Caligula Missions with Salvatore are my favorite out of the entire storyline.

I'd say that if the spectrum was START FAR AWAY MIDDLE ALMOST THERE END, you'd be at the ALMOST THERE part. A few more solid hours in the game and you'll be done.

Final Mission Spoilers:
The final mission was far and away the most challenging main mission in the game. It's like that by design, obviously, but man every time I thought I was over the biggest hurdle I got something else thrown at me. First I had to smash through the wall, then make my way up through three floors filled with enemies, then fight Big Smoke, then the entire building goes up in flames and I have to fight my way back down through three enemy filled floors this time avoiding all the fire, and then after I got out I had to go on a super difficult chase after tenpenny and a seemingly indestructable fire truck. Boy did I ever feel a sense of accomplishment after finishing that.

But boy, what a great game.
